Ava still felt the burning heat of whatever was burning inside of her, as she opened her eyes, she wasn’t in the forest with her new mate.
The place around her was a lot brighter than the forest she was in only minutes ago.
Her body burned, she could feel the heat, but there was no pain. It was unusual.
Ava was laying on a luscious patch of green grass, it was so soft under her touch.
She got to her feet and looked around; it was so familiar.
One step at a time Ava was cautious, she had no idea where she was and didn’t know if she was in danger.
It was eerily silent wherever she was, the more she explored the familiar the place was, but Ava couldn’t put her finger on it.
Beautiful white flowered trees formed a perfect circle around Ava, their vined branches intertwining with the tree growing next to it, creating a natural barrier to what was on the other side, as if trying to keep everyone out. So why was Ava in the middle of it.
The smell of fresh cut grass infused her senses, she couldn’t smell anything else. And the warm breeze that gently coated her bare arms was soothing as if someone was there comforting her.
She was in a peaceful place, there was something around her drawing her in a direction she didn’t know where.
Ava allowed her body to guide her to where she was going. She was taken to a cliff, a cliff that over looked a valley.
“It’s beautiful isn’t it” a voice from behind speaks, her tone was soft and gentle, but the surprise had Ava spinning on her heels. On the edge of the cliff she was close to falling off, but she was able to keep herself steady.
Ava’s eyes widen in surprise, a woman in all white stood before her, the shiny black hair cascading down her sides.
“I’m sorry my child I didn’t mean to scare you, I brought you here for a reason” she explains.
Ava looks at her confused, “Here?” she questions.
The lady nods, “I’m sorry you had to go through all that pain” she began but Ava interrupted.
“Wait, you were the one causing me pain, making me burn up?” Ava pretty much shouted at the stranger.
The women nodded.
Ava stood there dumbfounded, “H-how?” she stumbles out.
“I created all wolves, trying to connect to one out of thousands was all I had the ability to do, I had to choose carefully. Albeit didn’t go as planned as I thought, but there’s bound to be hiccups”.
Ava’s mouth falls open in shock “You’re the Moon Goddess” she says.
The beautiful woman nods.
“But were not here to talk about me, we don’t have long and there is so much to cover” she rushes out.
The Moon Goddess steps to Ava and holds out her hand, “There’s a reason you were chosen to have two mates. Kyle was your first because he had the potential to carry the bloodline of a new Lycan kind. He proved himself to be a wrong choice, that was my fault, I watched you grow and saw how you were with him, he brought out the best and competitive side of you and that is what you needed”.
The Moon Goddess pats Ava on the arm and sympathetic move to comfort her.
“And Steele?” Ava asks.
The Moon Goddess sighs, “Steele wasn’t in the plan at all to begin with, he carried so much anger as a child and an adult, I didn’t see him suiting you well”.
“So why did you make him my second mate?” Ava questioned.
“Come see” she says. Guiding Ava into a light.
The pair were taken to another place. Ava had no idea where this was to begin with until she remembered a page in the history books.
“The High Council” Ava observes.
“This is where it all began, and lives ended” she said to Ava.
There were so many things to tell the young girl, but she didn’t know where to start.
“What do you now about the Lycan bloodline?” the Goddess wonders.
“The bloodline died out a hundred years ago and since then things went downhill for the Lycan Shadow Pack every Alpha since have gone insane, thirty years ago, Michael Everhart lost it, he made his own pack rogues, then eight years ago, Steele killed his own father and that’s all I know”.
“You know what was in the history books, but not the truth, you see…”
The Moon Goddess moved her hand in front of the girl’s eyes, and everything was distorted for a minute before they were taken to a different area of the councils building.
“One hundred years ago the high council gathered to discuss the progress of packs, they were concerned about the growth some of the Lycan Shadow Pack’s members…”.
Ava watched with shock and dismay as the Moon Goddess revealed the truth about the Lycan Shadow Pack. A pack of rogues that the entire of North America had grown to fear and hate, but they wrong, so very wrong.
A large mix of emotions ran through Ava, fear, anger, rage, guilt, sadness, hate. All because she believed the stories of the people she follows, the same people who gave her a title across the states, the very same people who had been in her home, sat at her table and ate her food.
She was both disgusted in herself and them for thinking that keeping this secret was right, that killing all those innocent people who were given a gift amongst the werewolves only to be slaughter because a group of councilmen were scared that they might have been overpowered.
Ava saw the truth, they didn’t care about power, they only wanted to raise their young, grow in a community and celebrate their uniqueness.
Tears rolled down Ava’s face as she watched the horror unfold.
“How could they do this to them? They didn’t do anything wrong” Ava breathed out all jagged, she was so upset her breathing became uneven.
“You must calm yourself child, you may be unconscious in the real world, but your emotions are what caused the seizure you had, if you are not careful it will happen again and this time you may not wake up” the Moon Goddess informed.
There was a limit to her abilities.
“If you saw this happen, why didn’t you help them?” Ava questioned.
The Moon Goddess smiled, “I did” she replied.
With another wave of her hand Ava was shown another part of the Lycan Shadow Pack.
“Alana, the daughter of Beta Greyson Blue one hundred years ago was a Lycan, she was twenty-one years old when they came, it was a blood moon and she was having her first change into a Lycan. A blood moon leaves all Lycan’s vulnerable, except those on their first shift, it is when they become strong and indestructible. The council did not know of this and when they attacked, they thought every Lycan was killed”.
Ava gasped in shock horror.
“Alana managed to survive, however her mate was killed, the only thing I could do was gift Alana a second chance, she left the Lycan Shadow Pack, leaving everyone including her father to believe she had perished with everyone else”.
Ava was intrigued, she wanted to know what happened next “What was the second chance?” she asked.
“I gave a her a chance to live until she found a mate who when the time comes will truly understand”.
Ava creased her eyebrows, “I don’t understand” she says.
Another movement of the Moon Goddess’ hand and Ava was back at the original location she woke up too.
“What is this place?” Ava queried.
“It was where Alana spent her time in hiding whilst she looked for your father”.
Ava’s hand covered her open mouth. She wasn’t sure she had heard the Moon Goddess correctly, but then she saw her father in front of her.
“She died giving birth to me” Ava whispered out.
The Moon Goddess nodded her head “It was a price she agreed to pay, knowing you would be the one to bring out the truth of the High Council’s secret. I could only keep her alive long enough to find her second mate, your father, when she fell pregnant, she was already dying, she survived because you kept her alive long enough for you to be born and for her to hold you only once”.
Tears streamed down Ava’s face as she watched the love her father had for Alana; her mother’s growth with him, as well as the bump on her stomach carrying Ava.
Her hand automatically reached out to touch her mother as if she were there, but she couldn’t. that itself was heart-breaking.
Ava continued to watch through teary eyes as her father said hello to a daughter and goodbye to a wife and mate.
“Why couldn’t she live longer?” Ava balled out.
The Moon Goddess placed a hand on the young girl’s shoulder in comfort. “Alana lived decades without aging so she could find Samuel, I broke all of my rules, because you needed to exist, at this time in this place”.
“Why me?” she couldn’t understand why she participated in this.
“I don’t know, I don’t control everything, the universe has its own choice’s and you were one of them, I am only here to make sure you know what is happening so you can make the right decision”.
“The right decision for what and you still didn’t explain why Steele was chosen as my second mate?” Ava questions, but the Moon Goddess continues to look on front of her at her greatest work.
The Moon Goddess showed Ava Steele’s life including what happened to his father and the death of his mother.
Ava was at a loss for words, she didn’t know what to do, this was all too much.
The emotions Ava carried were overwhelming, too much for her body in this condition to manage. The Moon Goddess watched and the girl who had so much to bear, collapsed on the ground, she kneels besides her body and uses her hand to brush away some strands of hair from her face.
“A heavy burden has been placed on your shoulders Lavender Adams, but your heart is pure and your will is strong, there are rough roads ahead, but you are the only one who can fix it, a war is coming and you are the only one who can stop it”.
Ava would only wake if her mind, body, soul, and heart were aligned with what she intends, until then her life will be in stasis.
Steele couldn’t help but glance over at Ava every few moments, she kept flaring up with heat, and though his presence helped cool her down she wasn’t getting any better and he was beginning to lose patients.
Hours turned into days and Ava was still unconscious, Steele however, was readying himself for a war he would most likely cause.
Two days was left until the blood moon, a moon which the Lycan Shadow Pack used to celebrate every thirteen years, now it was a reminder of the slaughter their pack endured. But this time Steele was going to be sure to make this blood moon a rememberable time for everyone.
Flynn came into the tent where his Alpha had not moved since the arrival of his mate.
He could tell Ava’s illness was taking a toll on his old friend, he didn’t know how to comfort Steele, he was yet to find his mate and know the feeling his friend had right now.
“Any change?” Flynn asked.
Steele shook his head and rubbed his face with his large calloused hands. “Her skin suddenly becomes hot and no matter what I do it barely cools, if she seizes again, I will have lost my mate before I even had chance to have her”.
For the first time in almost a decade, Flynn was seeing a vulnerable side to Steele, and of course it was his mate that was causing the problem.
“She’s strong – Flynn speaks – she has to be, to have you as a mate” trying to make light of the situation.
Steele changed the subject realising it was getting too personal “Are we ready?” he asks.
Flynn nods his head “A day’s run to the Snow Stone Pack” Steele gets to his feet.
“Where are you going?” Flynn asks his Alpha.
“I’m not staying, this is my war, I will lead it, mate or not, sick or not, I will be the one to bring down those bastards” he snarls out.
There was no convincing him otherwise, when Steele left the tent Flynn glances at the girl in the bed, he hoped she would make it, once this is over, Flynn was unsure as to whether he would have an Alpha if his mate dies, he was stuck in his old ways and that could kill them both.
