The moment Ava drove into the Snow Stone Pack she felt it, even though she was invited into the territory, wolves still get an unnerving feeling when entering another pack, it was to let them know where they were and that they weren’t in no man’s land anymore. Ava took a breath, even though she was still driving towards the pack house, she needed to mentally prepare herself, this was happening now and it was going to be difficult, but she was determined to make it out alive. Cars were parked all over the place, Ava kept her truck a distance away from the rest, she wanted to stay as separate as she could. Getting out of the truck, she closes the door. Leaving her bags in the back, Ava began walking to the entrance. When she looked up at the all too familiar pack house it was as if she had been sent back in time to when she was a little girl and her father brought her here so she could see her ‘uncle’ Mason, Samuel’s best friend. Her childhood was good most of the time, many of her memories were made here. Now they were a distant memory she wished she forgot, but it is a part of her and always will be. There were a few people in the house, some of the children running around with water pistols in their hands, smile son their faces and laughter in the air. Ava smiled, Mason was a very lenient Alpha with the children, which is one of the main reasons Ava was there in the first place. Ava’s nose immediately caught the smell of familiar barbeque which put a wider smile on her face. Following the smell, Ava was introduced to the entire pack. Many of which were half naked and playing in and out of the swimming pool. It didn’t take much to spot Mason and his Luna Sarah, but what shocked Ava most was the toddler in Sarah’s arms. At first, she thought the Luna was holding another pack member’s child, but the loving look on her face told Ava otherwise. Mason: being the Alpha smelt the odd but familiar scent in his pack and turned to find the source. When he saw Ava stood in the doorway his smile grew, reaching from ear to ear. It had been four years since he had seen Ava. “Well as I live and breathe” Mason spoke. Sarah followed her mate’s line of sight and smiled broadly. Ava practically bounced to Mason and Sarah, she embraced them both with excitement. “Oh, how I’ve missed having a girl about the house” Sarah sighed. Ava looked at Sarah confused, “You live in a pack house, it’s full of girls”. Sarah shook her head, “None of them are you” she complimented as she twirled a lock of Ava’s ponytail around her finger. Ava smiled and looked down a Sarah’s arm, “Looks like you don’t have to worry about that now” gesturing to the little girl snoozing in her arms. “Dad never told me you were expecting another” Ava spoke. Mason nodded, “I told him not to tell you, I knew you would be torn between coming to visit with the situation at the time, especially when it was so soon after the incident” Mason explained, making sure to avoid using specific words. At the mention of this Sarah rolled her eyes, “My stupid son, never good at seeing what was perfect being handed right to him”. Ava chuckles, but it was forced, she didn’t want to feel awkward around them. The only problem was Sarah didn’t have a filter and anything she thought came right out of her mouth, especially when it came to her eldest son and the rejection four years ago. “Don’t worry about it, Sarah, there’s nothing that can be done now” Ava spoke hoping to end the conversation, but it only fuelled Sarah more. Mason sighed and tried to distract her with food, but it didn’t work, when Sarah was focused on something it was hard to distract her. Ava looked around the backyard and saw him sat on a lounger in a pair of swimming trunks. She was exactly as she remembered him all those years ago. He hadn’t changed. Not even the skanky girl on his lap currently sucking his face off. A minute Ava stared until she saw them break apart and she quickly turned away, not wanting him to notice. “So, where’s the other two?” Ava questions the Alpha and Luna about their other two children. Fifteen-year-old Jake and thirteen-year-old Nathan. Mason did a quick scan and spotted his youngest immediately. “Nathan is by the pool and Jake is probably flirting with the she-wolves somewhere” Mason laughed at the thought, he was exactly like himself when Mason was his age. Sarah however wasn’t happy about it, “I don’t need two-man whores for sons thank you very much” the anger in Sarah’s tone silenced Mason immediately making Ava snigger under her breath. Mason heard and sent a glare in Ava’s direction which only made her laugh louder. “I’ll be back in a minute” Ava said. She took a step away and then paused, reaching into her pocket she handed Mason her Phone, “Hold onto this for me, I have a feeling I’m going to get wet”. Mason took the phone and shoved it in his pocket before turning back to the barbeque to turn the meat. Ava walked through the small crowd and immediately spotted Nathan. The birthmark on the left shoulder gave him away. If Ava remembered correctly, Nathan was always easily scared and they would often try to scare one another, Ava winning more rounds than Nathan. A few pack members noticed the foreign wolf amongst the pack, the Alpha wasn’t panicking so they didn’t react, they only watched with curiosity. Ava snuck up on the youngest of the Alpha’s sons and when she was inches from his ear she whispered “Boo”. Nathan jumped in shock and sitting on the edge of the pool fell in. The smile on Ava’s face turned to amusement and then full-blown laughter. Nathan resurfaced and looked for whoever thought it be funny to scare him. Only one person was laughing hysterically. “Why did you do that?” he shouted angrily. Nathan didn’t notice who it was to begin with then realisation dawned on him. His eyes go wide in shock and the anger dissipates. Swimming back to the edge of the pool, Nathan reaches up and grabs onto Ava’s arm. She felt his touch but didn’t have time to react and she was trying to recover from the laughter. He had pulled her into the pool silencing her laughter, but in the process, Ava swallowed some of the water. When she broke the water’s surface she coughed and spluttered as she tried to get rid of the water in her lungs and breathe again. Now it was Nathan’s time to laugh, it had been a long time since he had seen Ava, he was nine when she left and back then he didn’t know why she left and never came back. As the years went on, Nathan learned about mates and rejection and eventually put two and two together, with the added yelling from his mother’s part, Nathan was never able to look at his big brother the same way again. Ava turned to Nathan and smiled, “Surprise” she spoke floating in the water fully clothed. Nathan smiled, but there was also confusion “I don’t understand, why are you back, after what happened with my brother, I thought you weren’t coming back ever” Nathan questioned. Ava was surprised to know Nathan knew what had happened, he was only nine when Ava stopped coming around, so he must have figured it out since then. Nathan pushes himself onto the side of the pool and looks at Ava still treading water. “I kind of had no choice, your dad asked my dad if I could come and train the pack before the games”. Nathan look surprised, “Wait, you’re the outside wolf that’s training us because Kyle can’t be bothered?”. Many wolves around the pool turned to the pair chatting when they heard Nathan speak and curiosity got the better of them. “She can’t be the one to train us, she isn’t old enough”. “She can train me any day”. “Were being trained by a she-wolf”. The comments kept rolling in, but Ava didn’t care. Hopping out of the pool, her clothes dripping wet, she removes her shirt. At this point everyone in the backyard was watching Ava as she removed her wet shirt to reveal battle scars and head warrior markings all over her right arm and chest telling everyone she was the head warrior of her pack. “s**t Ava, you’re the head warrior of your pack, when did that happen?” Nathan exclaimed. She smirked at him. “Four years ago,” was all she said. Nathan’s mouth gapes in shock “Wait, after the thing?” he knew people were watching and listening to the conversation. When Nathan found out what his brother Kyle had done to Ava, he went to confront him and his mother and father intervened, filling him in on the things he missed and told him to keep it a secret. They didn’t want the pack to find out their future Alpha rejected his mate seconds after finding out who it was. Nathan glanced at his brother on the lounger to find him looking directly at Ava with surprise and shock all over his face. Ava nodded, “I was already in training, a month later I graduated and was given the position”. Everyone else around was confused about some of the conversation, but it didn’t matter. Ava was stood in front of them; the youngest person ever to be given a head warrior position and a girl. As Ava started to walk away Nathan shouted, “You’ve got to train me to be a warrior” She looked over her shoulder, “Maybe, when your older”. Nathan pouted. But the pout didn’t last long as all his friends rushed around him and started asking questions about the mysterious head warrior girl he was laughing with. Stopping next to Sarah and Mason she looked at Sarah as she smiled, “After that performance, you got every boy here stunned, including my i***t son”. Ava laughed, “Too bad they’re not going to feel that way in the morning. Besides, I’ve moved on” Ava explained to Mason and Sarah before walking away. The Alpha and Luna looked at one another with a solemn look, when they found out Ava was coming, they had hoped she would somehow make Kyle jealous and force him to step up and in turn fight to get Ava back. But the new information had the pair questioning their plan. “Well there goes that plan”. Mason spoke to his wife. Sarah shook her head, “No, we can still make this work” she insisted. Mason put down his tool and turned to face his Luna, “You remember the calls I had with Samuel about Ava when they got home, she was distraught, and then again when he called to tell me she was rolling in agony because he was having his night with another she-wolf. Ava finally looks like she’s in a good place, she’s moved on. No matter how we feel we can’t get involved if it happens naturally so be it. But Ava’s a stubborn girl and what Kyle did to that girl was unforgivable. I highly doubt regret will be on her part”. Sarah listened to her Alpha and sighed, she knew he was right. He was always the wisest of the pair and knew when to corral his Luna. Mason looked out to see everyone chatting amongst themselves on one subject. “Everyone back to your business”. His commanding voice carried across the garden and the talk about Ava ceased. Ava headed inside the house and took a bottle of water from the fridge before heading to her truck to get her bags, she needed to change her clothes, and was yet to know where her room was. A large gulp of water was taken as she walked out the entrance of the pack house and headed to her car. After all that she was surprised he hadn’t come to speak to her yet, to question why she was on his land. But he did, only it was to his father. Shoving the girl off his lap, she shouts in protest, but he doesn’t pay attention, his focus was on his father and why he let her on the territory. Mason knew it would be a matter of minutes until his son came to grumble and ask questions. “Why is she here?” Kyle demanded to know. Mason didn’t like his tone and growled, Kyle immediately lowered his head in submission and asked again. “Dad, why did you let her come here?” Kyle didn’t understand why his own father would do this. Mason turned to his son “Because, she is here to do your job, since you can’t be bothered to step up and be an Alpha, I brought someone in; a born leader and soon to be Alpha to do the job”. Mason knew it was riling his son up, but he didn’t care Kyle needed a kick up the ass and maybe this would be what it takes. Then Sarah added more fuel to the fire, “And she’s head warrior, making her the only female warrior ever in history, that there is a strong Luna”. Sarah emphasised her final words making sure they burned into her son’s mind. He could have had the strongest Luna’s across Northern America, but he squandered that opportunity four years ago. Kyle rolled his eyes showing his parents that he didn’t care, but his wolf Cody was going crazy inside. ‘Are you stupid, I knew the moment we found out she was our mate she was different, but no you rejected her because you wanted to stick you d**k in any girl you wanted’. Kyle blocked his wolf, like he did most of the time. Cody had never forgiven him for what he did all those years ago, he ripped a part of his wolf out when Kyle rejected Ava and now, she was unknowingly getting her own back. Kyle sat back down on a lounger. The girl who was on his lap before came to sit down again but she shoved her away. “Not now Janice” he said. The young girl squealed, “It’s Jane you i***t”. Kyle growled at the insult and Jane squeaked as she spun on her heals and ran away. Harris, Kyle’s best friend and soon to be Beta of the Pack sat down beside him and sighed, he was the only one outside of Kyle’s family to know what he did four years ago. “You’re an i***t, you know that” Harris spoke. Kyle rolled his eyes, “Don’t you start too, I’ve just had an earful from Mom and dad”. Harris shrugged, “Your problem then, cause she’s here to train us and that includes all the other unmated males in the pack”. Harris knew it would rile Kyle up just talking about Ava being with another wolf. Kyle growled “Don’t talk about that”. Harris chuckled, “It’s not your problem anymore, she can be with whomever she wants”. He got up and walked away leaving Kyle with his thoughts again. And the thoughts soon piled in.
