OUR BOND

ALARA’S POV “Whatever this gathering is for, my mind is not made up to attend,” I grumbled, but it didn’t seem like I had any choice. Also, my curiosity lingered, and I wanted to know why the Lycan King was so insistent that I was present at the gathering. “One would imagine that it wasn’t you who had that fire burning inside you a while ago.” That was him, and I didn’t even realize that he had walked into the room. Maybe I had been so drawn into my thoughts that I failed to feel his presence. “You look very beautiful.” He said, but I failed to show him any form of appreciation. My face remained the way it was, plain and unready to smile. “You know we are bonded to each other, Nara. We have the same fire burning in us.” “Then I will have to find a way to quench it,” I smirked at him, taking two steps backward the moment I saw that he was moving toward me. “That can only happen if you are a direct descendant of the moon goddess. Unfortunately, we don’t get to choose who our mates are. It’s the two of us, my dear.” He chuckled, but I still kept the smirk on my face. “All I need is shelter, King Darius. Any other thing will be impossible to give.” “But I haven’t asked you for anything.” He said, and he was right. “You have been the one making requests ever since you found your way into this territory.” He paused, but he wasn’t done talking. “Everyone is waiting to see you. We have to go now.” He extended his hand to grab mine but I shifted away at once. “Why?” He looked at me like I had done a terrible thing to him. “You should go hold hands with your future queen. She already made it known that she was the only one who could have you.” “Seraphina was here?” He waited for a response, but even in my silence, I knew he could still perceive the displeasure I felt inside. “Pay no heed to whatever she must have said to you. I am the one who is king, not her.” “But it looks like she has a strong hold on you. Whatever that is, I have no interest in it. Go meet her, I am sure she will be looking for you.” He didn’t seem pleased by what I said. At that moment, the look on his face seemed as though he was expecting me to be warm to him, but being cold seemed like the only thing I could do at that moment. “Are you afraid of her?” He asked, breaking the silence that had given me nothing but discomfort. I scoffed. I didn’t think he would have said that if he knew who I was. “She is the one who should tremble at my feet, King Darius. Who knows, maybe she will bow to me someday.” Darius chuckled, but his smile vanished when he saw that my countenance didn’t change. “Who are you? You speak like you are more powerful than I am. I am the Lycan King, everyone fears me.” “Except me, King Darius. Maybe I will join them when I see a reason to be afraid of you. For now, I see no terror when I look at you.” My eyes looked all over him, and I realized that I had humbled him a little with my utterance. But then I knew that he was a terror to many, especially those who had experienced his wrath. For a while he chose to remain silent, but I knew that it was only matter of time before he broke the silence between us. “Come on, everyone is waiting.” He reached out with both hands, and he was very gentle at that moment. It was almost impossible not to go with him, but I wanted to do things on my own. “I am right behind you,” I said, no smile appeared on my face. “Very well, if that’s what you want.” He sighed and nodded in agreement. “I just hope you don’t lose this courage in you. You will need you…” He left with his smile intact, and I was left to ponder on what he said. I followed him when I realized that I didn’t know where he was headed. But then there was this feeling that told me that I was making a very bad decision. “I don’t think you are going to like this.” A voice whispered inside my head, and I wasn’t sure if it was my wolf Viola or just my mind trying to warn me. “Come on, we are almost there.” He stopped and turned to face me, but I had already halted as well. I could hear the chatting and clamoring going on inside the large hall where the gathering was to take place. I didn’t think I was ready for such crowd. “What is going on in there?” I was forced to ask, and when he saw that there was no way I was going to make any further move, he decided to speak up. “The ritual, every newborn child of this territory is cleansed by the witch, and as a new member of this pack, you are meant to be cleansed as well. That is the only way I can protect you from some of the vicious members of this Pack.” “I don’t need protection,” I whispered only to my hearing, but it didn’t look like I had a choice. We continued moving, and he slowed down just to make sure that the space between us was not much Then we were inside the hall, and all the attention was shifted to me after they saw him. First, there was silence, and then came whisperings that were accompanied by body movements that were all because of my presence. Just like I had expected, Seraphina was there, and as she moved toward the King, the look on her face intensified. She fired daggers at me with a growl on her face. “I have been waiting for you, King Darius! What have you been doing with this Peasant?!”
