Chapter Two- Harper

1157 Words
Harper Hilton was late for school. She had the perfect outfit and her hair was styled just right, her shoes were polished and her makeup was flawless. But she was late. "Mom." She groaned knocking on the door of her parents bedroom. She needed her mom to sign her in so that she wouldn't get detention. She would be mortified if she got caught in detention. Her parents didn't answer. She heard the sound of a chair scraping against the kitchen floor and wondered if her mother was even in the room. She quickly rushed towards the kitchen. Hayes sat at the table with a bowl of cereal. "Running late?" He asked over a mouthful of food. Harper rolled her eyes. "What are you doing here Hazel?"  Hayes frowned at the nickname. "Eating breakfast. What about you? Ditching?" She laughed. "As if I could ditch." she said. Hayes studied her face before nodding to himself. "Good girls are hot." She slapped him in the back of the head. "I'm not a good girl. When did Quinn leave?" Hayes laughed, "Apparently in exactly enough time to not be late. She had it all mapped out in that brain of hers. Smart girls are hot." Harper ignored his comment. "Well I'm going to get detention." She complained. "How's that for a good girl? Still hot?" Hayes nodded, "Still hot." With one last scoop he finished his bowl of cereal and rose out of his chair. "I can fix your problem." He said after cleaning and putting away his bowl.  Harper flipped her hair over her shoulder. "What problem?" She asked. She had been focusing on the small c***k in her nail polish. He chuckled. "The one where you don't want to get detention. Come on." Reluctantly she rose to follow him. He led her outside to his old Pontiac.  Harper simply eyed the vehicle.  "Well get in." He said opening the driver's door and sitting behind the wheel. Harper grimaced. "I don't...think so." She said stepping out of the way when he opened the passenger's door for her. "You don't have the best driving record you know? Plus, I need to get to school." He smirked. "Are you trying to make me call you hot? Come on, goody two shoes, unless you want detention." Taking a deep breath she slowly eased herself into the seat. "Do you promise we'll go the speed limit?" "Yes ma'am." He replied, quickly starting the car and pulling out of the driveway. "Want a sandwich?" She narrowed her eyes. "What? You literally just ate two minutes ago." He rubbed his stomach, "I'm a growing boy." He replied. He pulled into a plaza and parked in front of Subway. "We've got fifty minutes to kill. Let's have a sandwich." Harper scoped out the restaurant making sure she didn't see anyone she knew. It wasn't like she was embarrassed to be seen with Hayes, it was just... She didn't want it to look like she was on a date with the guy. Josh didn't exactly approve of their close relationship. But she had known Hayes her whole life. All of the quints had.  "Fine." She said after a thorough study of her surroundings. "You're paying." "Of course I am." Hayes mumbled.  ______________________________________ "Where were you this morning?" Ida Lopez asked as she pulled her hoodie over her head. She was left wearing a small black gym tank top. Harper racked her brain for an excuse before finally responding. "Had a headache, so I came in a little late." Ida sent her a knowing look. "Sucks, well if you see my brother in detention let him know I'm getting a ride home with Cherry." Harper hid a smile. Ida's brother was very overprotective, he was also the most feared guy at SB High. So, she lied to him about where she was and her friends helped her.  "Are you going out with Jose today?" Harper asked, changing her t-shirt to a looser one. She hated gym clothes. "Yeah, he's taking me to 'his spot'." She put up air quotes. "I don't know what he means by that." Harper slammed her locker shut. "It probably means he's taking you to his favorite restaurant." she said sarcastically. "Yeah yeah yeah...will you cover for me?" "Oh I didn't get detention." She quickly replied, tossing her curled hair into a ponytail.  "What do you mean, you didn't get detention?" Ida asked, sending her a narrowed look. "Yeah, I came in just as the bell rang. No one knew I was late." She explained. She deliberately left out the fact that she went to go get sandwiches with Hayes. Ida had a habit of overreacting and she didn't want anybody to over hear them. "Lucky you." She replied. "I guess I'll tell him myself then. You know it's getting harder and harder to lie to him." They headed towards the gym. "Ricky isn't the boss of you Ida. And Jose is a really nice guy. Maybe you should just tell him." Harper whispered. Ida laughed. "Right, because that's what he cares about. Whether or not Jose is a nice guy." Harper thought it over. Ida was a year younger than herself and Jose, Ricky probably wouldn't want his little sister dating a senior. "I'm just saying-" "Nice shorts Hilton." Aaron Carter said, giving Harper a lengthy once over. "Looking good Lopez." He finished, switching his gaze to Ida. "My brother would kill you in your sleep." Ida replied, continuing on her path. "Look away Aaron." Aaron rolled his eyes. "Hey Hilton, I didn't know you were a two timer." Harper scoffed. "What are you rambling about now Aaron?" He shrugged his shoulders with an evil glint in his eyes. "I just figured when you're dating a person, you don't ditch school to go to Subway with a different guy." Harper nearly fainted. she had been sure to look for anyone that went to her school. There was no way she would have missed Aaron Carter lurking around.  "What is he talking about?" Ida asked with a frown.  "Just how your BFF is a cheater." He replied, shoving his phone in their face. "Look familiar?" It was bad. The picture was taken in the moment that Hayes was handing her half of his chocolate chip cookie. It looked very flirtatious. To make matters worse she was laughing with her eyes closed and Hayes was staring directly at her. "That's Hayes." Ida explained. "He's her friend, asshole." Aaron shot them a disbelieving look. "My brother works there and he said that you guys were flirting the whole time." "Why is your brother taking pictures of underage girls?" Ida asked, pushing the phone away.  "He knows Josh. He figured he'd want to know what kind of girl he was dating." He explained shoving his phone in his pocket. "Still sounds illegal," Ida said, pulling Harper away. "Apparently we need to have a conversation." She growled.
