Chapter One
"Mom, can I hold Mira?" Aaron's squeaky little voice filtered through the quiet home. "Not right not love, your baby sister is sleeping. Be quiet, you don't want to wake her now, do you?" "Yeah, if it means I can hold her." Jane giggled at her impatient son. "Her nap will be over soon. Go get cleaned up, and she should be awake by then. How does that sound?" Upset at not getting his way, Aaron slapped his feet against the ground as he walked out, doing as his mother said. "Fine." Looking down at her lovely baby girl. "Maybe I should start telling him no a bit more. I think I spoiled him a bit too much. Do you think so, Mira baby?" she whispered as she continued to rock back and forth. "Love, I'm home!" Jacob called out as he walked towards his room. Hearing her dad's voice, Mira woke up smiling. "Someone excited to see daddy?" Jane laughed as she got up to meet her husband in their room. "How was your day at work, honey?" Jane asked as she handed Mira to Aaron after he situated himself in the middle of her bed. "It went alright, everything went smoothly, and the time sped by. I have no complaints today." He responded as he grabbed Jane around the waist and kissed her. "Not around the children, you scoundrel," she giggled as she pulled away from his grasp, going towards her babies. "What would you two like to eat for dinner?" "Shrimp Alfredo!" Aaron excitedly spoke up. Determined to get his favorite dish no matter what. "Are you sure you want that again, son? you know, there are so many different foods, right? "I know what I want Momma, and I want Shrimp Alfredo." Aaron spoke with finality in his voice. Surprising both of his parents. "Alright, Alright, son shrimp alfredo it is. Sound good, love?" Turning his attention towards Jane. "Yes, let's go get dinner ready, shall we?" After getting dinner ready, Jacob and Aaron helped Jane set the table. Aaron excited for yet another day of Shrimp Alfredo. Getting situated around the table, Jane goes in between eating her food, and feeding Mira. "Momma, can I feed Mira?" "No baby, just focus on eating your food alright?" "But mommmm, I want to feed my baby sister!" Realizing her son wasn't going to drop it without a fight, she decided to try and meet him in the middle. "How about this? Finish your food, and later, before bed, you can hold her for a little bit. How does that sound?" He stared at his food in anger before hiding his anger and looking back up at his mom. "Fine." He replied as he stuffed his mouth with food. "It'd be nice if you'd help sometimes, Jacob. He's even more headstrong than you are sometimes. Especially when it comes to wanting to be around Mira." Kissing me on the cheek, "He asked you, I didn't want to interrupt your conversation. But yes, next time he becomes stubborn, I'll speak to him. Alright?" "Alright." Jane smiled at her rugged husband. "Are you truly ready for Mira to go to school already? We can wait one more year. Head start isn't mandatory, you know? Jacob relayed the information to Jane as he started stacking the empty plates. "Yes, I know, but I want her to have every opportunity possible. I want her to have every door open so her choices aren't limited. I want her to be able to choose her happiness and not feel stuck or confined." "I understand love, I just remember how hard it was for you when Aaron started Head Start. I was hoping to avoid that this time around, to be honest." Jacob half laughed as he remembered her constant crying and anger at the fact that her baby boy was being taken care of by some other woman 6 hours a day. just to turn around and say this is what's best for him.. For the whole first month. "I prom-" "What do you mean shes going to school next year?! I don't want her to! She needs to stay home with us momma!" Aaron screamed as he cried and held his dad. "Tell momma dad! Tell her that Mira needs to stay with me." He sobbed as he held his fathers shirt and stared up at him with begging tear-filled eyes. Getting down to eye level with Aaron, "Now son, there's no need to act this way over your sister simply going to school for a few hours. First off, it's not until next school year, and second, it'll be during your school hours so its not like you see her during that time anyway. knock it off, okay?" Caleb spoke with a stern tone, looking him straight in the eyes, making sure Aaron didn't fight him on this. Realizing Aaron isn't going to get his way, he left their room. "Fine." "What are we going to do with him, Caleb? He's too young to be this stubborn and headstrong." Laughing at his adorable wife. "Oh, honey, he definitely isn't too young. It's just going to be worse when he wants to start dating." "Don't speak about him dating! It's way too soon for that. It has to be. He's still my baby." Jane whined as she held her husband. "You know it's eventually going to happen, so let's just enjoy this time while we can? Let's tuck our precious children into bed and then get some alone time, shall we?" Jane blushed as Jacob led her towards their bed to grab their baby girl. 1 Year Later "Aaron, you'd better be ready by the time I get to your room!" Jane shouted as she finished packing their lunches. "You ready to go, babygirl?" Mira smiled as she grabbed her mom's hand. "Aaron?! I'm coming!" Jane shouted as she moved towards his room. When she arrived, Aaron was sitting on his bed, arms folded, as he stared at the floor, pouting. What's wrong, son?" Jane mumbled as she sat beside her firstborn. "I want Mira to stay here. I don't want others around her. She's ours." "What are you talking about? Of course, she's ours. Does that mean you aren't mine every time you go to school?" She asked her stubborn little boy. "No.." "Just like you, she'll come back home every day. I promise, Aaron." "Okay." Holding Mira in one arm and grabbing Aaron's hand in the other, they walked towards their front door. "Let's go before we're late. I'll let you plan her 3rd birthday party. How does that sound?" A giant smile graced his tiny face. "Sounds good, mama." "I love you, my son." "Love you, mama." "Hello, are you Mrs. Jane Flynn?" Grasping Aaron's hand tighter, as she observed the strangers. "Who's asking?"
