"You're crazy. I don't believe any of that. Two people loving each other wouldn't cause a dimensional rift, and my parents, no matter how crappy they are, are my parents!" Tears poured from my eyes, revealing the turmoil I desperately wanted to hide.
"Darling, I know you weren't going to simply believe my words, especially after being locked up by me. So–" She got from her chair, giving me full view of the door across the room.
"Come on in."
The old door creaked and moaned as it was pushed open, and my heart stopped.
"Mom? Dad? Wh–" My voice broke as I took in their scared but resolute expressions.
"Please, tell me it's not true, please." I begged, needing them to tell me it was a lie. To tell me that they are my parents and that, despite our strained relationship, they love me. But, as I watched my father look away, and my mother looked towards Mrs. Grey for confirmation, I knew they weren't going to.
"Just tell her what we talked about beforehand, and nothing more." My mom flinched at her words but agreed.
"Mira, I don't really know how to start this. I guess I'll just get straight to the point." She cleared her throat as she straightened her posture.
"No, we aren't your biological parents. I was pregnant. But, she was stillborn. I–" She broke down crying. I'd never seen her cry before. It made me want to console her. Father walked up, wrapping his arm around her, as he finished for her.
"We struggled when we lost our babygirl. Your mom couldn't get out of bed for days. I wasn't sure if we were ever going to return to how we used to be. That is, until we got a knock on our door one day. I opened it to find a very impatient man holding a newborn babygirl. He didn't tell us much, only that she needed a home, a family to care for her until her parents could return for her one day, and to, under no circumstances, tell anyone that she wasn't our biological daughter. The people that needed to know that information already do. He stuck the baby in my arms, and disappeared. We never saw him again." He looked down, and wiped the tears off of his wife's face before continuing.
"We were such a happy family for a few years, we all dotted after you. Aaron included." Hearing his name made me flinch in disgust at remembering what he'd done to me.
"Everything changed one morning, as Jane was walking out the door for the day. Mrs. Grey here was waiting outside for her." Looking over at Mrs. Grey in shock. She only nodded to confirm their story so far.
"She told us about the war that brought so many different species into their realm, including humans. She explained how a union that should've never happened caused everything, and that a baby was also produced from them. And that the–That the baby was the key to fixing it all. We just had to kill the baby, the magic she held would fix the rift. We didn't believe it, I mean werewolves? Vampires? Humans not from earth but from somewhere else? It's all nonsense. Until– she mentioned our baby that we had lost.." As soon as those words left his mouth, both of my parents' demeanors changed. They became angry, and they were staring straight at me.
"The unnatural presence of that baby was causing ailments and misfortune towards any creatures unlucky enough to be close to it. You killed our baby when that man entered the town with you the same day Jane gave birth."
His words stunned me. "You believed everything she said? You believed a newborn killed your child? That's why you started treating me differently? Because of that? Are you serious?"
"She knew of our babygirl, how she died!" Jane countered.
"Hospital records! You continued to spend years with me after that, anyway! How could you?!"
"It's the least you could do! You took our babygirl from us! We took back the years you took from us, that's all!" Jane screamed as she bawled her eyes out.
"Now, Now everyone, calm down. I didn't bring y'all here to have a screaming match. You told your side, leave." Addy forced them to follow her without another word, leaving me alone. Seconds later, a few men I had never seen before entered with a long metal table, and other metal instruments, setting everything up in the next cell over.
"What's going on?"
Silence.
"Hello?"
Silence.
"Give it up, Mira. They won't answer you. They're under strict orders." Addy spoke as she walked back in with a man dressed like a doctor.
"Then you tell me. What's going on?"
"I feel like I have already told you everything. s**t, parents both real and adopted? Check. The war? Check. Have to kill you for revenge on your parents? Check. Oh! Yes, I also plan to harvest your organs while you're alive so I can sell them. Do you not realize how much Royal werewolf's organs go for? How strong your organs are compared to those of humans? They can enjoy their vices to their heart's desire."
"You kill your own kind for that?" I was stunned. How could such evil hide in plain sight like this? How could I not tell how evil this family was? Was I that blinded by wanting to be loved? The pain of betrayal wrapped around my heart, locking into place as I realized no one loved me. Not a single one.
"Don't look at me like I wanted this! It's all your parents' fault! They never should've mated! Blame them when you meet them in hell! Throw her on the table! I'm done waiting." She commanded as she moved towards the back of the room to watch.
"Wait! Addy please! Don't do this! I'm begging you!" My pleas fell on deaf ears as the strange men yanked me up, pulling me towards the table. "I don't want to be tortured to death! Please, Someone!" My desperate call was just a pitiful attempt, my voice too raw from crying to be of any real use.
Is this really how I die?
An overwhelming bang sounded, as a wave of pressure knocked everyone back.
My head hit the wall, as I fell like a rag doll. A stabbing throb shot through my head, as an ear-splitting ring deafened me. Black spots filled my vision as I crashed into nothingness.
