I looked back down at the text Chance sent me with the mans address on it. I was a little worried to be showing up at his doorstep but I really didn't know where else to go. Show up at his job? I don't even know the man. Much less where he works.
I raised my hand, finally deciding to knock. This whole floor was silent and it kinda worried me. My hand hit the door in four soft knocks.
I looked down at my nonexistent stomach. For me to be four months pregnant I was pretty small. Or was I? I hadn't actually googled anything so I really didn't know how large I should be at four month. Maybe he won't believe me because I'm too small.
I DO have pregnancy test to prove it.
The door opened and there stood the beautiful creature I slept with that night a couple months ago. His hair was wild and his shirt was off but his navy blue shorts clung to his hips. His dark stubble covered the bottom half of his face. He ran a hand through his hair before speaking.
"You dropping off a delivery for Maya Parker?" He asked. His voice sounded like he was tired, or had just woken up. He yawned before stretching out a arm and touching the door seal. It was as if my mouth was glued shut, I couldn't talk. I tried to form a word but he caught me off guard asking about a Maya Parker.
Was that his girlfriend?
Or worse...
Was that his wife?
Oh my gosh. I am a home wrecker. I slept with a married man and got pregnant. I'm terrible.
"No."
"Oh. How can I be of assisting to you then? Sorry. Do I know you? I just woke up."
"Not really."
"You kind of look familiar. What is it you need though?"
"Sorry, I'm Sophia."
"Alexander Parker." He kind of chuckled.
"Do you know Chance?" I said quietly, looking down at my bookbag that I held in my hands. I was stalling. I know.
I just don't know how to say this.
"I know a Chance. Why?"
"He gave me this address."
"Okay. Why?" He asked, an annoyed edge to his voice.
I swallowed before reaching in my bookbag. I grabbed the box of tests before speaking:
"I am pregnant Alexander." I said, chucking the pregnancy box that was full of tests at him. He quickly dodged it, making the box burst open against the wall. He grabbed a test, looking at it before chuckling.
"By who?" I stepped in the house and slugged my bookbag over my back.
"You, dumbass." I said, readjusting the straps on my bookbag. His bright green eyes stared into my dull brown eyes with such intensity I
had to look away. Even though it was four months ago, I still remember the night we had s*x, him forcing me to keep my eyes open as we
climaxed together. His messy hair only reminded me more of that night. I feel my face heating up, probably showing a slight blush.
"No, you're not. I don't like you."he said, as if he was a four year old. He studied the box before laughing and pulling out his phone.
"You don't have to like me, that's not gonna change that I am pregnant with your child."
"Nope, not me. I want a DNA test." He said, standing up and walking into the kitchen. he held his phone up to his ear, staring at me. I squinted towards him before shrugging off my backpack. I sat onto the couch that was next to me and opened my bookbag. Grabbing a random snack, I continued to watch him as he
sat with a stale face.
"Stop staring." He mouthed to me before putting his phone down. "They arent answering, I will pick you up and then we will swing by there
tomorrow afternoon."
"It's yours. There's a whole fetus in my stomach that was made by you and I. If you still refuse to accept that its your after the DNA tests, then its okay. We don't need you." I said, standing up. It was true. We didn't need him. I had enough money to care for the both of us, plus my parents who would gladly help out. Or maybe not. Either way, I was fine. We were fine.
I slipped back into my slides and grabbed my backpack before walking towards the door. I had left him in astonishment. I knew he was
scared. I knew he didn't know what to do.
"If it's mine, you're moving in with me." He said, immediately stopping me in my tracks. I turned around so quick, i knew i would regret it
later. I blinked profusingly before shaking m head. "Like hell I am not."
"Yes, you are. You are holding one of my children, you are moving in with me. I need to keep you supervized and make sure you and the baby are healthy."
"Or, you can just accompany me to the freaking appointments and check with me. I don't need to move in." I argued.
"You're moving in AND I am accompanying you to every appointment. Do not push me with this Sophia. I am serious."
"I am serious too. I have a house and boyfriend waiting for me. I can't move in with another man."
"You slept with me! What's worse? Explaining to your boyfriend that you slept with another guy or that you're moving in with him?"
"Both!"
"Daddy, is my food here?" A little voice said, my head snapped to the direction the last statement came from. I saw a beautiful young girl, she couldnt be more than two or three, with
unruly curly hair and bright green eyes a trait she definitely got from her father.
And that was definitely Alex.
"Why are you upset? Did you do the thing again?" She asked, rubbing her head. My head turned towards Alexander who was staring at the child with affection. The harsh green eyes that just were just glaring at me turned into nice, gentle soft eyes while he stared at the child.
"No Maya. It's okay. We are just having a conversation and Daddy got
upset." He said, carrying hisself to the little girl. He dropped to his knees, watching as the little girl rubbed her red eyes. So that's who Maya is. Not some wife, a daughter. But.. if he HAS a daughter there must be another women in his life.
"Daddy, who is THAT?" SHe whipered loudly, peering over his broad shoulder.
"Her name is Sophia."
"She's gonna be the one who watches me?"
"No, she's my friend."
"So, shes gonna be my mommy?" She said excitedly before rocking on her feet. She had a large smile spread over her face as she put her hand up to wave at me.
"Baby, no." Alexander said, standing. Maya looked up at him with a frown.
"Why not?" She said, stealing a glance at me. She furrowed her eyebrows and crossed her arms.
"Because we are friends."
"She's pregnant." She noted, now staring at me. I held back a chuckle as Alexander looked back at me with a horrified expression.
"What?" He asked. Yeah, I'm curious as to how she knew that as well. My stomach is barely round and she just met me so she has nothing to compare it to.
"Nevermind, go do your morning cycle before your food comes. We got stuff to do today." Alexander changed the subject and Maya rolled her eyes before walking up to me.
"Hi. My name is Maya Parker and I am 4 years old. Can I touch your stomach?"
I nodded as she then proceeded to rub her hand across my stomach. She smiled before looking back. "There's a baby in there!" She said before stepping back. She waved at me before dismissing herself, running the opposite way she came from. Alexander looked where she ran and we stood in silence for the next couple seconds. After we heard the shower run, he turned his head back towards me.
I stared at his messy hair while his wild green eyes stared at me before glancing down at the box.
"Are you sure? Sometimes these things are faulty."
"I took four. I'm one hundred percent sure." I said. I pulled on the straps of my bookbag as he studied the box. He twisted it around before spreading a wild smile across his face. He looked up at me before pointing.
"I get it. It's a joke. That's why you asked me about Chance, right? That's bastard." He let out a deep laugh and pressed a hand against his belly before throwing his head back. He tossed me the box before sitting back on the couch. I frowned as he pressed his phone to his ear.
He continued to laugh before quickly sobering up and speaking.
"Chance, man I told you I wasn't in the mood for games and shit." He said, toying with his thumb with his forefinger. He looked at me as I stood, wondering when he'd realize I was being serious. He stared at me as his eyebrows creased and a frown took over. He sat up some, licking his lips. His biceps flexed as he crossed his arms and switched the phone from one ear to another.
"Don't pretend like you didn't send Sophia here."
'He didn't.' I mouthed out loud before starting to pace. I could hear Maya singing in the bathroom. I'm not very sure she knew the lyrics but she was yelling them very loud that I almost heard her more than I heard Alexander, who was right in front of me.
"I am going to kill you." Alexander said before angrily throwing his phone to the other couch. He stood abruptly before looking at me.
"Are you actually pregnant? These aren't fake ones from the prank store?" He asked, eyeing the box suspiciously. I shook my heard before trying to offer a polite smile.
"I don't want you to have an abortion. I'll take the kid."
"No. This is my kid as much as it is yours." I said, ready to argue.
"You're gonna have to move in with me. Or vice versa. I would like to make sure the baby is healthy at all times." He said, nodding. I shook my head, not believing was he was saying.
"After a DNA test, of course." He added. I nodded my head before telling him that wouldn't be needing, seeing he was the first person I had s*x with in years. He frowned before looking back towards the bathroom. He called out his daughter's name, waiting a few seconds. She responded shortly after and he just glanced back towards me.
"Sorry, sometimes she likes to try to hold her breath while she's in the shower. That's why she's supposed to sing." He explained shortly and quietly before sitting down. "Damn, you can take a seat as well. I'm sorry."
"You're fine. Anyways, if you would like to accompany me to my appointments, you are more than welcomed to. However, I have a very busy life and I cannot move in. I'm just fine on my own. You are welcomed to come over during the day." I said, crossing my ankles. He looked at me as if I was crazy before laughing.
"Look. I only want the best interest in mind. So. How about I come over for a week and you come over for a week? Or just weekends?"
"Or you can just come to baby appointments." I said, confused.
"What if something goes terribly wrong?"
"Ambulances exist you know."
"But it'd be better to have someone that can drive you on deck, prepared for you."
"That won't happen."
"Fine. You need to call me everyday. If I am the father, that is. You don't look that big to me. There's a small bump. Barely tell."
"Fine. I'll have my law-," I was cut off by very brief knocking. Alexander stood, going to the door and pulling it open. At the same time, Maya decided to come out the shower. She had on a yellow bathrobe that had a hood. She smiled behind her father as he grabbed something out the hands of m the person at the door. I could barely see their face but I could see their hat. It was green.
Maya stood behind her father as he shut the door. "Maya your subway is here" he called not knowing she was right behind him. He jumped slightly at the sight of her before pushing the bag into her hands. She happily took the bag and ran towards the room she originally came from, the door closing harshly.
"What were you saying?" He asked, running a hand through his hair. His green eyes went dull as he yawned. His arms flexed as he stretched them out behind him. I frowned as he finished, looking back at me.
"I'm sorry, am I boring you? Tiring you?" I said, standing up. He chuckled before sitting back in the chair. I shook my head before walking to the door. I steadied myself against the wall and slipped into my shoes.
"No, it's just I'm tired in general. Here. Take my number." He demanded. I rolled my eyes before taking out my phone. He gave me his digits and made me text him right there and then so he was sure which number was mine. I stayed at the door while we stared at each other in silence.
"I'll text you tomorrow. We can, um, go get a dna test quickly."
"Fine. Goodbye Alexander."
"I'll be in contact!" He said while the door closed.
