1938 Words

NOVEMBER 1940 It was late November but still surprisingly mild and, at times in the mid mornings, quite warm. The morning we were due to leave for our new home there was much to do. It was dull and grey out in the street; a sickly, gritty, smoky pallor seemed to hover over all the houses; the legacy of the previous night"s bombing raids. I wandered over to the football stadium and read the notice about no further games being played until hostilities ended, for about the sixth time. Mum was busy packing the bits and pieces and what she called the essentials that we would carry with us in a bag.
