But as Elara’s vengeance burns hotter, so does the forbidden desire between her and Lucien.

He’s dangerous. Possessive. Addicted…

And he’ll do anything to help her destroy those who betrayed her, even if it means losing himself.

Chapter 1
Chapter 1 Elara’s POV “Mia, add a bit of extra rosemary to the lamb.” I said as I bit my lips to stop myself from smiling as I said that, “Damon likes it that way when he's feeling generous.” Mia answered me with a side glance that confirmed it all, as she reached over the sizzling pan as I turned away, my cheeks flushed. For the fifth time in ten minutes, I ran my hand down the front of my navy blue dress. I had switched twice already before finally deciding on sticking with it. It had been twenty minutes since Damon had called. His voice sounded a bit odd, almost like though he was excited about something, "I'm coming home early, baby. I have good news for you…. Big news!!!!” He'd said as he laughed, like an actual laugh which was really rare to get from him these days. I almost had a heart attack from his laughter. I thought about the real estate merger he had mentioned a few weeks ago to me. The one that sounded so real to be a life changing turn out if ever it worked out. Perhaps that was what he was so happy about. Cause God, he deserved it. Damon was one of the few persons I knew that pushed himself harder at obtaining his goals. I looked frantically around the penthouse, as my heart was pounding with anticipation. I needed things to be perfect. I had a candle lit on the table, dimmed lights, and jazz playing softly in the background. My husband had called in a good mood for crying out loud, so I thought to wrap myself and him in some love. I was pulled out of my thoughts by the comforting sound of the elevator door opening. On hearing the sound, I headed out towards the front door and re-stightened my dress. And when the door creaked open, there he was- Damon. He barely had the chance to step in when I greeted him with a huge smile, giving him the biggest hug, “You’re early!” I said as I laughed into his chest. I was fast to stretch my hands towards his briefcase but then another hand beat me at it. And that's when a woman stepped in, uninvited. Tall, red lips, wearing expensive clothing. I glanced at Damon, hoping he'd tell me who she was without me asking. Damon smiled, leaning forward to kiss me on the cheeks, “This is Selene. She's here to celebrate with us.” I blinked, then caught myself and sent a beaming smile towards her. She returned the smile but for some reason, I didn't like her. And that said a lot about me because I barely ever disliked people. “Dinner is ready, would you like to come eat first?” I ushered Damon and Selene to the table, as they sat down. Mia brought in the lamb and every other food we cooked earlier and set it on the table. “In order to celebrate, I brought us this glass of wine.” Damon took out two bottles of wine from his bag, and they were quite the expensive wine. One was alcoholic and the other wasn't, I didn't drink alcohol so I presumed the non alcoholic one was for me. I forgot all about my unease from earlier and rushed to bring the wine cup, then I set it on the table. Damon poured the wine and gave me a cup, then he raised his hands, “I'd like to make a toast to my future contracts!” He said and gulped down the first bottle. I did the same with my own glass, gulping the sweet wine down entirely. “I'd also like to make another toast… To my wife…” My eyes brightened up, as I got ready to gulp down another drink but then, his next words made me stagger. “To my wife, Selene.” “What?!” I blinked, “Damon, what are you talking about? Your wife, Selene? Did you get our names wrong? I am your wife!” “Ex-wife.” “Damon?” I asked, my voice already shaking, “W… What is this? What are you… Ugh!” I stopped in my tracks when I coughed. It wasn't an ordinary cough, blood splattered on the floor the moment I coughed. The blood went everywhere, on my clothes, my hands. I stared at the ground in horror, realisation dawning upon me. “You… You poisoned me?” I asked, my voice shaky. “Ah… It was about time. I was tired of you, Elara.” “No. No. No. Damon, this is all just a prank right? You were happy! You were…” Selene laughed softly, interrupting me, “Oh, honey. He's happy on my account. And for the first time, that small deal he had been chasing actually closed.” I blinked rapidly, feeling blindsided, “What do you mean? What are you talking about?” Damon turned and glared at me. “She was the force.” He said, “She helped me with the exact connections, and leverage I needed. All of those things that you steadfastly decided not to take advantage of and help me with, while pretending to be busy playing holy heiress.” I gaped at him, as my hands squeezed the edge of a dining chair to keep myself balanced. “You used me?” I asked as my throat tightened. “Used?” Selene scoffed, taking a sip of her wine, “Darling, the only thing valuable you ever brought to your marriage was your name. Damon just made it work.” That caught my attention, as I turned to face Damon. “I… I thought you didn't need my help. You insisted you wanted to win this deal all on your own.” I stared at him, still expecting an explanation for what the young lady had just said but instead, Damon laughed. A short and bitter laugh. “I had to say that.” He finally said, “You made me feel like a f*****g leech every time I even looked at your own side of the closet.” “That’s not true.” I said as tears rushed to my eyes, “I loved you. I believed in you Damon. I wanted to help you.” He took a step backwards, his expression twisting into disgust, “Yeah? Well, your love wasn’t enough. I've been busy trying to show the world that I was more than a favoured husband while you go around hosting charity events from idiots.” “Stop, ” I said softly, shaking my head, “You’re upset. You’re just angry. We can talk about this.” Selene rolled her eyes and went over to the window, twisting her wine around, “Talking is wayyy behind us.” She said, “You f*****g played a devoted wife.” I felt my knees buckle as my breath got stuck in my throat, and I stepped back, “Why does this keep happening to me?” I cried, my voice cracking. “Damon, please… What have I done? Tell me. Tell me!” I yelled as I charged at him, hitting his chest with my feeble fists, “Was it the business trip? Was it because I did not pay attention to you enough? I tried! I always tried!” Damon grabbed my wrists, hard as he growled, “I am tired of you and your big mouth.” I froze. Selene raised her glass, “There is no need to stall now. Do it, baby. Let’s have a proper celebration.” Damon sunk his fingers into my arm and pulled me towards the sitting room, and Selene pulled out a piece of paper from the suitcase and placed it on the table. It was a transfer agreement… Transfer of my fortune to Damon?! “D… Damon… Please, stop… Please.” I begged, tears spilling all over my face. “Sign it. This was the reason why I married you in the first place.” “D… Damon?”
