A war is coming.

Only one will stand at the end of it all.

Will it be the bird with broken wings?

Or will the phoenix rise from the ashes?

Chapter 1
The forest was a dark blur around me as ran. The wind felt like ice as it whipped through my auburn hair and tore at my skin. I couldn't stop. Even if I wanted to, my feet kept moving. Adrenaline kept me going deeper into the forest despite the pain that was ripping through my body. The wounds on my back were still fresh. The darkness that surrounded me caused me to trip over roots and stones, but I kept going. Nothing was stopping me from getting as far away from those monsters as possible. My heart was hammering against my chest so loud I was convinced the whole forest could hear it. My breathing was ragged as I pushed further into the darkness with no direction.  Pausing at a stream, I knelt down and drank. The cold water was so fresh against my dry mouth. How long had it been since I had last drank anything? Probably days. They always forgot until they needed me. And I had never tasted anything so fresh. I stood, watching the moon through a small break in the canopy, trying to catch my breath. I used to find solace in the moon. I used to marvel at how its silvery light would coat the night in such beauty. I haven't seen it for so long and yet it was still wondrous to look upon. But what was I going to do? Where was I even going? A sudden gush of wind whipped through the trees. Spring should have started by now. However, Winter seemed to be hanging on like a noose around our necks. The cold air was biting at my wounds. Wincing I moved back towards the stream. I should clean them before they become infected. Just as I knelt down I heard several howls. Wolves. Eyes wide, I quickly started running again. No no no. Not wolves. What if they smell the blood. The sound of something running towards me spurred me to run faster. As fast as my legs could go. I screamed as I tripped. Hands stinging at the impact. I had to get away. I couldn't have survived those monsters just be taken out by wolves. I tried to ignore the extra pain and pushed to get up. A growl stopped me. My breath caught in my throat as I looked up to see a huge grey wolf snarling at me. Every part was screaming at me to run, but I couldn't move. Another low growl came from behind me. Gulping I sat up to see two brown wolves watching me, teeth bared. Their hot breath hitting my face making my heart beat faster. I was not getting out of this. A snapping sound made my head snap back in front of me as a man came out from behind the trees. He was tall and muscular. Wide eyed I watched as he pushed his blonde hair back as he made his way towards me. He seemed to ignore the wolves, and they him. "Who are you?" He yelled. I flinched which earned me another growl from behind. A whimper escaped my lips. "What are you doing here?" More yelling. But I was frozen in fear. I couldn't answer him. I could barely get my body to breathe never mind use words. Even though I knew it would be worse if I didn't answer. All I could do was stare at him. I watched as his eyes roamed over every inch of me and landed on my legs. "So that's where your bleeding." He muttered quietly. I looked down to see my dress had torn, revealing the inside of my thigh and the trail of drying blood. Cringing, I quickly tried to cover myself up. "Up. Your coming with me." The command in his voice was clear, but my legs wouldn't move. He was a stranger. A stranger who reeked of nothing but danger. I couldn't go with him. But what where my choices, really? Another growl made me flinch. "Or would you prefer that I left you for the wolves?" It seemed like we had been walking forever. The cold wind kept me shivering as we walked in silence. The man in front of me and the two brown wolves behind me. The grey wolf had disappeared into the forest the moment we set off. I still had no idea where he was taking me or what the hell was going on with these wolves. The trees started to thin and I could see a fire on the hill ahead. The steady beating of drums and wisps of laughter grew louder. It seemed like we were headed for a party. Oh, interrupting a party meant I was definitely done for. From one hell to another. Brilliant, just brilliant Wren. What on earth have you gotten yourself into now? As we reached the bonfire, the revellers moved out of the way. Sparing us the barest of glances before continuing their dance. We stopped in front of a stage, close enough that I could feel the heat of the fire on my back. The sudden change in temperature making me even more tired. My legs felt like they would fail me at any minute.  "Alpha." The blonde man bowed his head towards the stage, where I could see a man sat on a throne. He was intimidating, bare from the waist up showing his perfectly sculpted muscles. A fur cloak draped over his shoulders. His dark eyes stared straight through me as if he could see right into my soul. He was terrifying. An axe leaned against the side of the throne. Dripping with blood. Slowly he stood and stalked towards me, like he was the predator and I was his prey. I couldn't look away. It was like looking at a god. An evil and imposing god, but he was still captivating. "Mine" He growled as he jumped down from the stage. I flinched at the power in his voice. No no no! This couldn't be happening. I thought I had gotten away from the monsters. They were everywhere. I tried to step back but he was too quick and suddenly he was in front of me with an arm around my waist, preventing me from retreating. Tears pricked my eyes and I bit back a scream as I tried to remove his hand from the wounds on my back. Struggling just angered him though and he held me tighter. The scream escaped my lips just before the pain consumed me and darkness took over.
