Gabriel's P.O.V.
My little mate was stroking the furs on her bed. Her first bed. What did she sleep on before? She turned and looked at me with tears falling down her cheeks. What upset her? Did I do something wrong? I sat her on the bed and knelt in front of her. Glad I had control over my wolf again. He had taken over when we found out Rose had let her leave the tent alone. Letting any girl wander alone in a camp full of males wasn't smart. Letting my Mate go to bathe alone was f*****g stupid. She was so scared of everyone, so fragile and no one was to see her naked but me! Though I was surprised by my wolfs control. He was notorious for having no control. He killed without thought and he didn't care for anyones feelings. Except our Mate. Oh we both wanted to take her right there by the stream when we realised she was naked in our arms. The feel of skin pressed against mine was incredible. But we didn't want to scare her, so we had to be patient.
"Tell me whats wrong." I asked as I wiped tears from her cheeks.
"It's too much." She whispered. "It's all too much. You're too nice to me and I haven't done anything to deserve it." Was she serious? She deserves the world. I could tell she wanted to say more so I waited. She took my hand in hers and played with my fingers, watching them intently. "I was locked in a tower for all my life. I slept on a mat on the floor. The monst...my uncles would only take me out when they...needed me." More tears fell as she looked into my eyes and a sad laugh escaped her lips. "I thought kindness was something that only happened in books." Her own family kept locked up like a criminal. Her f*****g family. How dare they. Then they're the ones who hurt her as well. Bastards! I couldn't stop the growl that escaped me. She flinched but I quickly cupped her face in my hands.
"No one will treat you that way again. You're safe with me, I promise." I felt her calm down as she looked deep into my eyes. She trusted me. I smiled and she shyly smiled back. Right then I decided I was going to do everything to make sure she's always smiling. Leo's voice popped into my head.
"The Mountain pack are here, Alpha." Can't I have one uninterrupted moment with my Mate. I did not want to deal with those filth. But needs must with this ridiculous winter. I couldn't leave Wren alone now. My wolf wouldn't let me even if I wanted to.

"You will stay by my side." Gabriel grabbed my hand as he led me out of the tent. "I don't trust you not to run away again" Lie. How is going to bathe running away? How many times do I have to explain? If it was so wrong, why hasn't he beaten me? Was that going to happen now? That was it. He wanted to make a spectical out of me. "It's too dangerous." Not a lie. Now I was sure everyone could hear my racing heart. Once we were outside, I suddenly realised how crowded the camp now was. Men were everywhere. Laughing, shouting and fighting. It felt dangerous. The tension in the air was thick and I found myself hurrying closer to Gabriel. Even if he did want to beat me, I was still safer with him. Everyone was giving him a wide berth. I kept my eyes on Gabriel's back as I trailed behind him, trying to calm my breathing. The further we walked into the crowd, the louder the fear was becoming.
I didn't even notice he had dragged me onto the stage until he suddenly sat on the throne and pulled me onto his lap. A squeal escaped my lips and his arm wrapped around my waist. He held me firmly against him as I tried to free myself from his grip. So continuous of his bare chest pressing against my arm. I shouldn't be here like this. I shouldn't be sat here. This could only lead to one thing. The one thing I didn't want to happen again. Gabriel's free hand cupped my cheek, turning me to face him .I stilled as my breath caught in my throat. He was too handsome. His face moved closer and he whispered in my ear.
"Don't move. Remember, your safe with me." His hot breath against my cheek made me gasp and his woodsy scent filled my lungs. Again he wasn't lying. Panic left me. But my heart still raced at his closeness.

Goddess her scent was intoxicating. Hazelnuts and sweet jasmine. My hand trailed down her cheek and stopped under her chin, lifting her face. Her hazel eyes were wide as they looked into mine. She was beautiful. So beautiful. I could hear her heart racing.
"Found yourself a pet at last, Alpha?" Turning to face the source of the grating voice, I glared at the Beta of the Mountain pack. "What a pretty thing she is too" My grip on Wren tightened as I growled. She flinched but she didn't try to run. I lent on my fist giving a bored look to the Beta. The fool didn't stop running his mouth though. "And so obedient I see. Tell me how did you break this one? My Alpha's are always so disobedient he has to keep them chained." He said with a smirk. If my people didn't need this trade, I would happily destroy his pack. They were nothing but savages. Wren was staring intently at her fingers and I could hear her breath quicken at his words. Had someone chained her? I turned her to face her. My fingers caressing her cheek. Trying to stop myself from burying my axe in the Beta's head. He continued to prattle on but I was only half listening. Alpha Kane was late and his Beta was clearly stalling. Instead I let my fingers trace her face. She shivered under my touch. Good, she feels the sparks too.
This was my mate. This tiny fragile human. And she was perfect. Wren did't even know she was my mate, she didn't even trust men, yet she frequently turned to me for safety. When I find the bastards that kept her locked up and hurt her, I will make sure they regret being born! Bastard scum! I'll kill anyone who dares to harm her. The Alpha eventually arrived, wittering on with some pathetic excuse as to why he was late.
"The deal?" I growled, not even sparing him a glance. My patience with his pack was wearing thin and I could see Wren was tiring.
"Ahh, yes the deal. We have 10 bushels of wheat and 10 pigs...." If I hadn't been watching Wren so intently I might have missed the tiny shake of her head. It was barely a movement, it was so small. Tilting her face up, I looked into her eyes to see they were brown. A dull muddy brown. I narrowed my eyes. She wasn't a wolf. How were her eyes changing colour? Conflict was clear in her eyes, then she swallowed before whispering.
"He's lying." She was so quite that even sitting this close to her, if I hadn't been a wolf, I wouldn't have heard her. Does she mean Kane's lying? How does she know? The Alpha was still talking. I turned to glare at him.
"You know the penalty for lying to me Kane." I said with a low growl. I watched as the Alpha gulped before turning to glare at his Beta. He was lying. How did she know? I looked back at her, my hand still under her chin. My brow furrowed as her eyes were back their usual stunning hazel. Who is this mate of mine? "How much do you really have to offer?"
"Fine, 5 bushels..." Wrens eyes turned brown again. What the f**k?
"Lie" She whispered.
"The truth Kane."
"2 bushels..." Again Wren whispered that it was a lie. Without taking my eyes of her, I picked up my axe and threw it. I stood and passed her Leo, turning her so that she wouldn't see the mess. My aim never missed. The Beta was now laying with my axe in his skull and his Alpha was pale as a ghost. I stalked towards him.
"I warned you not to lie to me Kane." Pulling my axe of the dead Beta, I turned to face the i***t who would dare to deceive me. He was a pathetic trembling mess before me. I towered over him. There was no way he had any Alpha blood in him. He was nothing more then a rat. "Why do you need more Omega's?"
