I stood there, stunned for longer than I liked. “What?” Stacy walked away, not even looking back. “She has to be joking.”
She wasn't. The dark-haired woman moved further and further until she got to the elevator. Only then did she turn, and our eyes met for a brief second before the door closed.
“I'm so sorry,” Barbara apologized. “I can't believe she just stormed out like that. She was no nice before, I just—”
“No, it's not your fault,” I said. “We have a bit of a history.” This helped calm Barbara down a bit. “I'll handle this.”
Barbara gave a small nod before walking away. I turned the corner and headed to my office, closing the door right behind me as I got in. I moved the table and my first went right into it, making a small dent in the hardwood. It was a miracl
