Chapter 4

A week later Even though it wasn't winter yet the morning was a bit chilly. Amber was on her usual spree. She quickly got inside the diner that she had been working on for the past seven months. Even though she graduated from college with a degree in arts and literature, she couldn't get a good job in some publishing companies. So in order to meet her needs, she had to be a waitress in this diner. It was a pretty cozy diner. Not too poor not too posh. So she was quite satisfied with this job. When she needed extra money, she would gladly take extra shifts from the diner which would indeed get her more money. Sliding the door open, Amber made her way inside and was instantly met with Nick and Janice at the counter already. Janice was busy making a coffee and Nick was talking to her. They turned towards her when they heard the sound. Nick immediately rushed towards her. "Hey bunny bunny! How are you today?" Nick was always like this. He found out new nicknames for her everyday. He was a university student while Janice was a full time worker just like her. Janice and Nick are the are the closest to she had as friends. Even though they met through work, they managed to get so close to each other. "I am good since I got to see you today. How was your exams?" Nick was on leave for a few days since he had exams going on. So she was seeing him after quite sometime. "All good! All good!" He said as she got behind the counter after keeping her belongings inside. Since Nick and Janice were really close to her, working in the cafe was not tiresome for her. She enjoyed what she did. After all, she depended on this job fully. She even had to spent some money back home to her uncle. She respected him a lot. Even though her life at her uncle's house wasn't all gold she was thankful that he didn't gave her away to any orphanage when her parents died. He took her in, despite the uneasiness from his wife's side. Thompson Fox was a moderate man. He was a really closed person. Despite the no from his wife, he took his brother's daughter with him after his death was because he sympathized the little girl who lost both her parents at a young age. So, most of her life, Amber lived in Hus house with his wife Miranda and son Dean. Dean was all things his mother was. They both loved to make Amber's life a living hell. That was the reason she moved out from that hell hole. The only compassionate person out there was her uncle. And for him, she didn't mind spending a part of her money. Since it was the weekend, there was a little rush in the cafe. She didn't even get time to gossip with Janice or Nick. Soon it was her break time. After having lunch, She and Janice was talking, while she remembered that she didn't tell Janice about the man. "Did I tell you something happened last week?" Amber started, suddenly a little nervous. "Not that I know of" Janice spoke as she gave amber a look that said stop-playing-and-spill. "I might have slept with someone!" She stated casually. Janice stopped what she was doing halfway to stare at Amber. Slowly letting it sink , Janice opened and closed her mouth, failing to find words. "Holy s**t! What do you mean by you might have?" Janice exclaimed once she came to her sense. "Okay then I slept with someone! Happy??" Amber could understand why Janice was shocked. She knew how Amber was saving herself for her one true love. Alas! It took her time to understand that this so called stupid love doesn't exist at all. And now she doesn't even know the name of the man who took her virginity. Fate really plays good. She thought. "That's much better!" Janice mumbled and quickly added. "Well who was he? Do you know him? What's his name?" She kept asking. "I don't know who he is. I just met him at the bar. I didn't wait for him to wake up or something." "Oh god! Well what's done is done. How---" Janice was cut off by my phone ringing and her uncle's name flashed across the screen. Quickly swiping she took the call and her aunt's voice came from the other side. "You b***h!! It is all because of you! You are such a freak!" Miranda's loud yelling came from the other side. Amber was not surprised. This was Miranda's usual way of talking to her. She wasn't really paying any attention to what her aunt was talking until she heard. "Your uncle is dying and you b***h doesn't even care." Fear shot through her spine. Did something happened to her uncle that she didn't know about? He was the only living relation that she had. When it came to her uncle, she became too sensitive. "What!!?? What happened to uncle Thompson? Is he fine?" Amber couldn't keep calm. She started pacing around the room, fearing for the worst.
