Amber gripped the counter hard, waiting for her aunt to speak about what was wrong with uncle Thompson. She had a gut feeling that something was definitely wrong.
"He is sick and this is all because of you, you stupid b***h! You better send the money as soon as possible."
Amber heard the beep of the phone, signalling the end of the call even before she could say something. She kept the phone on the table and held her head with her hands.
"You alright bunny?"
Nick asked as he rubbed her back in a comforting manner.
"I have to go meet uncle Thompson. Aunt says he is sick."
Amber says as her head swimmed with thousand possibilities of him being sick.
"You do know your aunt loves to exaggerate things, don't you?"
"I know. But this seems serious. I really have to go."
"Don't worry then darling. I think Nick and I can manage without you one day. Go on and go see him." Janice interrupted the conversation.
"Really? Are you sure?" Amber hesitated.
"Of course we are. Now off you go!"
Nick said as he gently pushed her off the counter. Amber removed her apron , quickly took her bag and told both of them goodbye before leaving the diner. Once she was outside, she quickly took a taxi to her uncle's house.
-----------------------------------------------
Uncle Thompson's house still remained the same even after a year. Yes. It's been an year since she has been here. Firstly because this house always brought bad memories, secondly because she really didn't want to come across her aunt or worse Dean.
Even though she hasn't been here for a year, she used to meet her uncle once in a while, somewhere outside the house.
So after a year, she entered the average two story house again. She quickly went to her uncle's bedroom to look for him.
There he was. Lying in the bed, looking all worn out, with his eyes closed. She slowly made her way towards him and sat by his bed and touched his hands slowly.
Suddenly, he opened his eyes and looked at her.
"Hey Darling! What are you doing here?" His asked, his voice hoarse.
"What happened to you? Are you sick? You should have called me earlier." She was sad that he didn't call her sooner than this.
"I didn't want you to worry, dear. I am fine. It's just some work pressure."
Amber couldn't help but think that she was at fault for this. She was too busy with her life that she forgot to call him.
She felt like the worst niece.
Suddenly, the door burst open and her aunt came in.
"Well it's good you are here. Here's the list. Go and buy these medicines if you don't want your uncle to die."
Amber knew her aunt wanted her here for the little money she has from her little job. But Amber didn't care.
So she quickly took the list and went downstairs to get the medicines from the shop across the street.
Once she bought the medicine, she started walking back towards the house. Once she reached near the house, she saw that a black car was parked in front of it.
The car looked really expensive and it held a powerful aura with all the tinted windows and sleek design.
She wondered who the car belonged to and what it is doing in front of her uncle's house.
As she reached closer, she noticed that there were also a few men standing around the car. Suddenly, s nervous feeling grew in the pit of her stomach.
She ducked her head down and went inside the house. As soon s she got inside, she found more men inside. There were exactly three of them.
Their back was to her and were talking to her uncle, who suddenly looked too weak and pale. She didn't know what was happening here.
She closed the door behind her and all of their attention was on her.
To her astonishment, when she looked up, she gasped seeing the man in front of her. There stood in front of her the man she slept with and ran away in the morning. He looked the same.
His eyes trained on her and she saw that his lips twitched very slightly.
"Y..You?" That's all she could muster.
