PrefacePREFACE Being a ‘Bardolator’, I cracked William Shakespeare’s “Venus and Adonis” and while reading the lines, the following lines invited my attention: “Love comforteth like sunshine after rain, But Lust’s effect is tempest after sun; Love’s gentle spring doth always fresh remain, Lust’s winter comes ere summer half be done; Love surfeits not. Lust like a glutton dies; Love is all truth. Lust full of forged lies.” (Page No: 1278; Lines: 799-804) The above golden words of ornament studded with rubies of axiomatic truth, deep sense of Emeralds, the portrayal of human emotions of pearls and the universal truth of diamonds, inspired me to write a novel, romantic novel or a novelette, for which I started probing for the theme and the characters and in my mind, there struck a name, ”BASKARAN (BASKAR, hypocoristic name) which means ‘Sun, Cute’ to play the role of a protagonist and another name for ‘heroine, ”SHYAMALA’ belongs to ‘Aquarius with dominant planet “Saturn” and “Sathabisham” as her birth star, who is considered to be dominated by the Lord Sun and she is majestic, honest, self-confident, courageous and intelligent and she won’t bow her head to anyone, possess excellent management skills, excel in medicine, Engineering science and business. Another name, ”Sujatha’ conceived in my mind to have a congenital character of ferocity and possessiveness to defy our heroine, ”Shyamala” and dominate others. Like this, ones by one, eight characters formed in my mind to give life to this novel to title as “LOVE OR LUST’, Sivasankar—Maghathi, parents of Baskar; Gunasekar-Latha, parents of Shyamala; PremKumar, Sundhari or Kanmani, Peter, Veerapondi-these characters created situations and act their roles perfectly. Veerapondi is given the role as a sub-Inspector of Police but a villainous role, who encountered with our hero, “Baskar” in the opening scene. The events depicted in every chapter are so realistic that the above actors play their roles suitably. The charm of a great classic as a work of art in common with all great works of arts, lies in its eternal freshness and novelty; and to each and every mind, a great work will reveal a new meaning and a new charm which alone are the source of all the enjoyment one derives from reading it. How far it has been possible for me to reveal all the manifold charm of this great work of classical romance, it is for the reader or readers to judge. I’ve spared no pains in bringing together all the accessories to the enjoyment, selecting the best of all possible variants giving a rendering in English of the original, as I am a ‘PhiloEnglish as literal as the foreign phrases allow and adding critical , medical terms and psychological terms are added to flavour this novel ,”LOVE OR LUST “ Moreover, I am obliged to define the terms,” Love’ and ‘Lust” and how these terms are applicable to our characters who play a predominant role in this novel. Lust and love are often thought of as two distinct feelings, but anthropologists theorize they exist on a spectrum that can be broken down into three categories: Lust: The craving for s****l satisfaction that drives humans to seek out s*x partners. Lust is driven by a hormonal desire for s****l gratification. Attraction: Also called passionate love, attraction is associated with feelings of excitement, cravings for emotional connection, and intrusive thinking about the beloved. It involves the brain's reward center and can imitate the feel of drug addiction. Attachment: Also called companionate love, attachment is characterized by feelings of calm, emotional union, and security. This mostly comes into play in long-term relationships including friendships, families, and committed romantic partnerships. "The most commonly understood distinction between lust and love is that lust is purely physical and s****l, whereas love includes care for someone well behind their function as a source of yearning and s****l gratification," “Love” is a set of emotions and behaviours characterized by intimacy, passion and commitment. It involves care, closeness, protectiveness, attraction, affection and trust. Love can vary in intensity and can change over time. It is associated with the range o positive emotions, including happiness, excitement life satisfaction and euphoria but it can also result in negative emotions such as jealousy and stress. “Lust” is also a feeling of having a strong s****l desire, lubricity, for another person sometimes incestuously and it is the initial driving force that attracts one to a potential partner and it is what helps keeps the passion alive in a long-term relationship. Ultimately, ‘Lust” is strictly based on s****l attraction was whereas ‘Love’ is based on emotional desire. Although, “Love and Lust” is different, these two feelings co-exist. When “Love” is sometimes s****l which can be seen in the character of Shyamala, whereas ‘Lust’ is always s****l as it is depicted in the character of ‘Sujatha’ and Sundhari. While ‘Shyamala’ is emotionally driven, Sujitha is physically driven. Further, , when ’Shyamala’ is connected romantically, emotionally, mentally and spiritually, ‘Sujatha’ and ‘Sundhari’ are sexually and physically connived with our hero, a mixture of “Love and Lust”. Moreover, our first heroine is sometimes accompanied by s****l or physical connection with our hero, Sujatha’ is sometimes accompanied by emotional, mental, romantic or spiritual connection. But both “Shyamala and Sujatha’’ experience with lust during thei relationship with Baskar. Further, our hero Baskar, is depicted as a “Polyamorous” personality yielding of the base desires of his paramours. Is he a “Kaliyuga Arjuna” marrying the girls one after another who desired to marry him? Though it’s illegal, this ‘Romantic Suspense Novel’ doesn’t confine to the barriers of legality for which readers are expected to look to the normal human being having no intention of cheating his partners of his life. In the second volume, the suspense is revealed. The sweet nothings are realistic and incidents are co-related in such a way that this’ Romantic Suspense Novel’ will conduce you to the realistic world. Finally I am indebted to “PENCIL ONLINE PUBLICATION AND THE EDITORIAL COMMMITEE for the endeavour they did for approving this novel or publishing and editing so as to render the readers an epulation, an opsonium.
