I had been working for Tom for about a month and a half now. It was the first time I felt like I was stuck in a job, that I didn't know if I enjoyed anymore. He was so exhausting, the calls at times people never call at, the demands of errands. Today he said I didn't need to worry about much until the evening, so Maria and I wanted to take this opportunity to go for a early dinner date. "This almost never happens anymore." Maria sipped her water as we waited for our meals.
"I know, Tom has been so moody and crabby. I think I am starting to hate my job."
Maria knew the small portion of everything. "I wish I could say you could quit, but you can't. He's paying good money and you signed a contract you can't easily just leave." She did have a point, the company just didn't work like that.
Letting out a sigh I puffed my cheeks out once more. "I know, like when he is out filming, doing this job is so easy. He hates interviews, with a passion so telling him he has one is hell. Like, I want to believe he is as sweet as the fans have said but I know deep down, that's not true."
The server brought us our food and we both thanked them. "My steak looks so good." I smiled, it was a while since I last had it. "So, how are things with Chris?" Maria had been going on a few dates with Chris when they both had the chance, there was one time he surprised her with flowers at work and waited in the front lobby for half hour until she got off to surprise her.
Seeing her cheeks turn a slight red she smiled. "It's going good, I hope we stay like this and he just asks me out."
"Maybe he wants you to ask him out?"
"You think?" She paused, "we'll see. I want to wait a little."
Going to say something, my phone had cut me off as it started ringing. She let out a sigh as she placed her cutlery down looking to see Tom's name there on my screen. Knowing she was giving me the look to pick it up I did. "Hello Mr. Holland." I sighed.
"I need you to come to my home right away Ms. Ronson, I have a business deal I need you here to attend to." Rolling my eyes Maria shook her head no.
"Mr. Holland, right now isn't a good time."
Hearing a chuckle he sighed. "Well, it's you do your job or find a new one." Tossing my napkin down I stood up. "I'll see you soon, Elena." He said as he hung up.
"I'm sorry." I tried saying to Maria before she cut me off.
"Nope. Save it, Your boss is a d**k so he comes first." She tossed some money on the table. "I am going to text Chris. I'll see you later."
Going to Tom's home was like torture. The drive felt like hours when it was only minutes. Pulling up in the drive there were three other cars parked outside. All had men with black suites and burgundy ties. And sunglasses, most of them were covered in tattoos as they just stood there. The cars were all black, two SUV's and one Mercedes. Quickening my walk I passed to men and headed inside. Greeted by three more men I made my way into the living room to see a man with blonde slick hair and blue eyes. My nerves were going insane, looking up my eyes were met with Tom's. He was wearing dark jeans and a button up dress shirt along with a tie. "Glad you could join us, Ms. Ronson."
The man couldn't take his eyes off me. "Ugh, glad to be here?" I tried to say bravely.
"Tom, what's her first name." The man sat back.
Tom nodded signalling me to say something more. "My name is Elena, sir."
Lighting a smoke the man exhaled. "Well, Elena, I've never seen a women with one blue and one green eye." My heart stopped as I remembered I had left my contacts in the car. "Where are you from, what brought you to the big bad LA?" He winked.
"I wanted a new life, sir. My mother and father thought it was a good start. Canada didn't have much for me." I scratched the back of my neck. "I never got your name, sir."
The smile on his face grew as he leaned forward. "My name is Callahan Jones." He sounded like someone you'd hear in a Texas movie. "I was here paying my dear brother a visit." Looking at Tom he had his jaw clenched as if he wasn't a huge fan of this guy.
Nodding I left it at that before turning my focus on Tom. "Mr. Holland, what did you want me to do?"
"Witness, I need a witness to see me sign this form." He grumbled sitting down with a paper in hand. "Callahan, here is a good man. I see us working together in the future." He scribbled his signature before handing the papers to one of the men standing near by. "Now, gentlemen. Please exit yourselves out."
"Oh, we will. Tommy boy. We will." Callahan said as he stood up and followed his men out.
Letting out a sigh I turn my gaze at Tom. "What did you just sign?" I asked now becoming curious.
"None of your concern," he growled picking up his drink and taking a chug of what I assumed could be whiskey.
"No, Tom I don't think you understand. As your assistant I need to know." I pointed my thumb back to where Callahan had just left.
Laughter struck Toms lips as he stood up and took two steps to being an inch away from my face. "Elena, I hired you to work for me, not back talk me and know every little thing about me. Callahan is a business brother, I never would be related to such a person. You don't know one thing about me, and I tend to keep it that way, do you understand me?" His breath fanned over my face.
Chewing the inside of my lip to stop myself from back talking all I could do was nod. "Yes, sir." I looked him in the eyes seeing his fire only being fueled. "You know, part of my job is being there, and knowing everything about you. Who even is Callahan and why was he protected by body guards."
Shaking his head he backed away pointing at me. "Elena, no. I can't tell you. He does want us to go to dinner tonight so there's an outfit in my room for you to wear. Go get changed, so we can be on our way."
Not wanting to argue I just went into his room, closing the door and seeing the dress laid out on his bed. Throwing the dress on it suited my curl's in my hair today. It was a deep blue that was snug with a slit to the thigh. It had a matching hand purse to put my phone and stuff in. The front of the dress was a V-neck going down to almost my belly button and along the side was a lace pattern to show skin but nothing I wanted to show. I slid on my heels and headed out into the other room seeing Tom look taken back. "Callahan sure knows how to dress a lady, don't ruin that gift for you. That's a then thousand dollar dress."
"What? Why am I wearing such a expensive dress?!"
"He's not cheap. He's a very wealthy man, now let's go."
The drive was a good hour into the depth of LA. We pulled up and parked. Getting out the car I followed Tom into a building that had lots of people lined up outside, he whispered something to the security and before we knew it we were being entered in. The place was lit beautifully lots of people fancy dressed as some sat at their tables smoking. "There's Callahan," I pointed out as he sat drinking with his men.
"Come on." Walking over with Tom he smiled as soon as Callahan saw him. "You don't even look drunk yet, love the way you did the place." Tom pointed as we both took a seat at the table.
"Thank you, your women looks amazing in that dress. I'd say It'd be more fun to rip it off" The chuckle from his throat with his comment made me freeze in shock. "Elena, do you like the gift?" He c****d his head to the side to look at me, his eyes scanning down my chest then back to my eyes.
What was I supposed to do? Tom told me to basically suck my job up and Maria might think this whole thing is too crazy to believe if I tried telling her since she was already upset with me. "It's beautiful." Was all the words I could say to the man.
We began eating dinner after a good hour of talking about what Tom's business was gonna involve in the future for his acting. "So, Elena. Did you hate the air hurting you face, hate where you were born so you moved?"
Again the attention was turned onto me. "No, it was beautiful there. Where were you born."
"Texas, where my daddy was." Figured.
"And since you are born there and living here, does that make you unhappy with where you were born?" I threw his question right back into his face feeling the whole table's gaze land on me after looking at him.
Callahan grinned, a s**t eating grin as his eyes grew darker. "My w***e mother was killed. That's why I ended up here, pumpkin." the nickname made me cringe. His glare moved to Tom, "You best be keeping your women under control there little brother. Mother taught us better you know this."
"I only asked you a question, sir."
"There we go, more lip. Thomas, give your servant a smack." Callahan growled.
Turning to Tom I knew he was left uncomfortable. "You two are just off to a bad start. She's not my servant, though. She is my assistant." He corrected his so called brother. "Elena, do my a favor and let the men do the rest of the talking." Tom growled patting my shoulder a bit harder then I had liked.
The night dragged on forever. The men spoke about how they'd please a women when I was sat here wishing I could just stab my eardrums with my fork so I didn't have to hear the rest of their conversation, until one part caught my attention. "I'll let Jake know you want a cut of the drugs sold."
My attention snapped to Tom who just nodded before telling me it was time to go. Getting in the car I breathed out. "I work for a drug addict?" Hissing my words I buckled myself into my seat.
Tom hitting the steering wheel he glared at me. "Shut up Elena, I am not a f*****g drug addict. I sold them, that in there was my street family a side of Hollywood you will never f*****g understand, do you hear me?" I could tell he was angry. "You're lucky he didn't lose it on you, those goddamn comments, are you serious Elena? You have no idea what could have happened!"
Scoffing I crossed my arms looking out the window. "Me? I asked a question, the very same one he asked me Tom. And no I have no idea what to expect anymore considering you don't want me to know you. But so help me Tom Holland if I get killed it will be on you."
"f**k, Elena. No one is going to kill you. I'll take you back and you can go home. We have business to do tomorrow so be at my work place for ten. And, don't ever get with Callahan, ever." Is all he said before the drive home.
What was happening to my life?
