Andrea just got her bachelor's degree in business administration and was going to apply for her first job as a secretary. That morning, she got up as early as 5 am to make sure she didn't get late. She was super excited because this was her first step in getting independent. She hurriedly got ready and rushed downstairs to greet her family. Andrea had two brothers. One who was 10 while the other was 25 and well , wasn't doing so well in life. Andrea was ready to get this post to help her family. When she got down stairs, she greeted her parents cheerfully “ Good morning mama, good morning papa.” “ Good morning Andeng.” Her parents replied in unison. “ So how are you prepared for your interview?” “ She didn't sleep last night mama, she kept practicing the whole night” her junior brother Mateo replied. “ Are you serious Andeng! I told you to get enough sleep so you could be in form but you never listen.” Her mother scolded. “ You don't have to worry ma, I'm in great shape and I'm gonna crush this interview I promise you that.” Andrea replied with enthusiasm. “Hmm I'm sure you're gonna mess everything up as you always do” her other brother Leo said with sarcasm. “ Just why can't you support your sister for once Leo, she has always been the one fighting for this family so keep your mouth shut” their mother scolded. “Tsk, I'm just calling a green grass green. We all know Andeng has always been a blabbermouth and this might make her screw it up” Leo hissed. “ Well, you call me talkative, I say I'm communicative which is very important in an interview.” Andrea said before taking her bag to leave. “ Hold on, don't forget to take my good luck cookies” her mother handed her some cookies. “ Thank you ma. With this I'm sure nothing can go wrong. Goodbye everyone.” “Goodbye Andeng.” they all said in unison. Except Leo of course. On her way, Andrea kept humming. She could not contain her happiness. Today was the day she was applying to one of the multinational companies in New York. They sold all kinds of products both at home and abroad. Andrea had spent weeks perfecting her résumé, rehearsing her introduction and envisioning her next big step- landing a job as a secretary in one of the most prestigious companies in America, Alpha Prime Provision. Andrea had always been enthusiastic and optimistic about life. Her long brown hair was tied into a ponytail. She wore a white shirt with a lavender skirt as she was told those colours brought luck on Fridays. Andrea arrived before the company building. She couldn't believe her eyes, the building was massive. She hurriedly entered the company. She didn't want to be late even though she was 30 minutes early. If the company was big outside, it looked even bigger inside. Her eyes kept wandering around and she didn't see the person coming towards her. She suddenly bumped into someone and coffee spilled all over her shirt. She lifted her eyes to see the person and her jaws dropped. A gorgeous looking man was standing before her. He was tall, with a strong jawline and high cheekbones. His black hair was neatly combed and though he wore glasses, she could see his thick lashes and deep brown eyes. He was staring intensely at her and boy was he annoyed. His gaze suddenly sent chills down her spine. “ Ehm excuse me sir”, Andrea didn't even finish her sentence when he walked off without saying a word. How rude, Andrea thought to herself. Her shirt was stained but she had a spare shirt in her bag. She went over to a young man standing by the door and asked. “ Ehm excuse me please, I'm here for the interview but a grumpy man spilled coffee over my shirt. Can you please show me the restroom?” “ Just go on to the second floor. On your right you'll find it” he said with a smile. “ Thank you Ehm..” “ Nathan,” he replied. “ Thank you Mr Nathan” she said before leaving. “ You're welcome but please don't run in the hallway ehm..?” He didn't finish his sentence when the young lady had already left. He didn't even know her name. Andrea took the elevator to the second floor and headed to the restroom. She hurriedly changed into a pink shirt and hurried out. With the time spent, she had just a few minutes before the interview. She wanted to run but remembered what Nathan told her all. She was getting late so she began running. In the hallway, Nathan caught her running and shouted. “ Miss.” She looked back and saw him walking towards her. “ You have a hard time following rules, don't you?” he said with a smile. “ Well some rules are meant to be broken right?” She said nervously. “Don't worry I won't tell and you haven't told me your name.” “ I'm Andrea.” “Nice to meet you Andrea. I guess you're going to the G.Ms office, I'm headed there so we could go together”. Nathan suggested and they both went together. When Andrea arrived before the office, there was a long queue before her. Were all these people here for the interview too? The competition was going to be tough. Nathan left Andrea and entered the office while Andrea waited for her turn outside. She took a seat beside the other candidates when she heard a loud voice from the office. “GET OUT!” A young lady came out of the office crying as she ran out. “ Oh my God, what do you think is happening there?” one of the candidates asked. “ I heard the GM is a heartless boss that doesn't care about his workers health. He makes them work overtime and doesn't compensate for that” another candidate said. “ Well I heard he used his female employees for his s****l pleasure and if they refuse he fires them. Have you heard anything about the GM?” Another candidate asked Andrea. “ You mean the General Manager? Eh no, I haven't heard anything about him. I mean I'm sure they're just rumours”. Andrea tried to lighten the atmosphere. The other candidates looked at her like she just said something completely stupid and she didn't understand why. Andrea braced herself as she waited nervously for her turn. All the women passed their turn and it was finally time for her to enter. She whispered to herself. “ You've got this” before she entered the office.
