Love At First Sight
Sarah’s POV
“Fingers brushed, a stolen glance, Two hearts met in a fated chance.
No need for words, the silence spoke, in that instant, the spell awoke.”
I always felt this poem was a bit tacky until it happened to me. Love, they say, is a beautiful thing and it didn't matter how tough a person was, it was indeed strong enough to pierce their metal heart.
Here I was on this beautiful Saturday morning, in a free dress, face cap over my brown hair as I looked around a bookstore for the new volumes from Feed your soul by my favourite author, mia hazel.
“Oops!” I went as I tried to reach out for a book and all the books in that shelve fell off.
“Hey… careful.” A smooth voice said to me, I turned and my eyes met with his as his chill soft hands graced mine.
Gray eyes felt softened mine, we stared at each other for a while before I broke the spell, totally embarrassed.
“Uhmm… uh, thanks.” I murmured, struggling to focus as we picked up the books.
“That's okay, you just have to be careful.” He said, still staring at me, I pulled back a strand of hair, my face red, as I unknowingly blushed.
He looked away all of a sudden as if embarrassed.
“Sorry, I didn't mean to stare like that.. just that your beauty struck me and I… um.. shouldn't have said that.”
We both chuckled.
“I'm Richard,” he said, extending a hand.
“Uhmmm mia.” I lied, trying to stay undercover.
It wouldn't end in a good way if he found out I was actually the billionaire heiress to a conglomerate.
“Mia.. nice name.”
“Thank you.” I blushed hard. “Is that, feed my soul volume five by mia hazel? Oh my god.” I exclaimed as I noticed he was holding the book I had been searching the entire book store for.”
“Uhm… yeah,” He chuckled. “You read her too.?”
“Yeah! I totally love her books and I've been searching and searching for this for weeks now.”
“Oh well, this is kind of the last copy right here.”
“Are you serious?” I said, My mood is obviously gloomy.
“But… since you're obviously a fan, I guess I can lend you.”
My eyes went bright.
“Are you serious?”
“Yeah, sure, you can have it.”
“Thank you so much!” I exclaimed, almost hugging him. “How do I… return this though..”
“Well, let's say, if fate brings us together again, then you can.”
“What?” I burst out laughing hard.
****
That night In my bed, I couldn't sleep. I kept hugging the book in my arms as I smiled from ear to ear foolishly. I didn't notice when Sia walked in.
“Still drooling over your prince charming?”
“Oh Sia,” I sat up. “This is like the most romantic thing that has ever happened to me.”
“Uh huh,” Sia scoffed, sitting beside me. “I don't get it though, why didn't he just take your number if he liked you too.”
My face dropped.
“Sorry, sorry, but it's just facts though.”
“Well, Sia darling, there's something called romance but you won't know this cause you're getting into a blind marriage soon.”
“Ouch, nice one.” She chuckled. “Speaking of blind marriage, my fiancé is really visiting tomorrow!”
“What do you think he'd look like?”
“Well, probably average height and a serious business man for him to agree to this.”
I sighed sadly, this would be my fate some day, thanks to being the daughter of a businessman, that's why I explored the world whenever I got the chance.
“Don’t worry much about it, okay, it would probably end with me, dad won't make you get married to some stranger too, trust me.”
“You think?”
“Well, I hope so.” She said her countenance was low.
“Sia.” I said feeling sorry for her. “I'm really sorry this had to happen to you okay? Really wish there's something we could do.”
“It's fine Sarah, it's marriage not a death sentence.” She scoffed trying to mask her pain, I knew Sia too well. She was sad that this was happening to her and that broke my heart. We were not blood sisters, stepsister's actually, but having different mothers didn't affect our bond, we loved each other dearly.
“Go to sleep Sarah and let tomorrow worry about itself.” She said walking out with a grin.
I felt really sad but when I fell asleep I dreamt about Richard, it was a dream I didn't want to wake up from.
Next morning.
“Rise and shine sleepy head!” Sia bashed into my room still in her nighties.
“Oh no Sia, please…. Let me sleep some more..” I grumbled.
I buried my head under my pillow trying to shut off the world but Sia won't let me be, suddenly we heard the sound of the main gate opening.
My eyes flew open and I and Sia ran to the window to check what was happening.
A swarm of cars drove into our mansion, luxurious cars in their numbers.
“He's here.” Sia said silently.
“Quick, we have to get ready.” I said rushing to my wardrobe and trying to pick a dress from the pile I threw out.
I turned and found Sia still standing there, eyes heavy.
“Come-on Sia, everything's going to be okay.” I said hugging her.
She sniffed.
“Yeah, yeah ,I'm okay,” she said, wiping her face. “Let's get ready.”
We got dressed in long flowing dresses and put on jewelry and makeup.
Walking downstairs, we could hear the voices of the guests and my legs felt weak. I could imagine how Sia felt having to meet this stranger for the first time and having no choice whether to accept him or not.
“Ladies.” Our dad called out,” just in time.”
A short old man stood there beside him and I felt disgusted, this old man was old enough to be our father, how dare he? I wanted to lash out, the look on my face was daunting.
The old man smiled.
“Oh, no.. no ladies you have it all wrong.” He chuckled alongside my dad.
“I'm not the groom, meet my son, the groom, Richard Moore.”
A tall muscular man turned around In his sharp black suit, hair jet black and his gray eyes struck with mine.
My prince charming!
