I do everything I can to stay invisible. I only have two friends, I don't talk in class, and I certainly do not get involved with bad boys. Which is why I'm not sure why I'm hearing what I am right now.
"Wesley told people that you too were together."
"What!?"
"Wesley told peo-"
"No, I heard you! Just why would he say that?" I ask Camille and Avery who are sitting across from me looking at me like I'm going to blow any second, which I might.
"I don't know. Vince told me that it was some sort of revenge" Avery shrugs and continues eating his lunch like I'm not having a crisis.
"What kind of revenge is this?"
"Well, you do look miserable..." Camille points out.
"Not helping!"
"Okay sorry. What are we supposed to do?"
"Help me find him!" I suggest.
"And what are we supposed to do when we find him?" they ask expectantly. What are we supposed to do? He could take the three of us at one time most likely, maybe even with one hand.
"We... we kill him!"
"Or you find him and apologize for saying he's dirty and Avery and I finish our lunch?"
"I agree."
I groan in frustration before standing up and searching for the devil himself. Little did I know that Wesley was almost impossible to find. You would think that with all the people constantly staring and gawking at him all day, someone would know where he runs off to when he's at lunch. After half an hour of aimless searching the bell rings pulling me from my scope. At this rate I won't see Wesley all day.
Making my way to English class I walk in and take my assigned seat behind Camille who shoots me a look of sympathy knowing I had no luck in ridding myself of the rumor. The bell rings signaling the beginning of class just before Vincent walks in at the knick of time winking at the teacher on the way to his desk causing her to blush profoundly embarrassed by the young boys’ actions.
Vince! Vince can help me, he's like best friends with Wesley.
"Psst." I whisper getting his attention, "Vince I need your help."
"I'm not good at helping." He answers before pulling out his phone and typing at a furious pace.
"You don't even know what I need your help with!" I exclaim.
"Fine." He huffs setting the phone down, "What do you want?"
"I want you to tell your friend to tell everyone the truth"
"Which is...?"
"Which is that I'm not dating him!"
Vince holds his hands up in surrender, "Calm down! I'm not feeling very compelled to help you with all the yelling."
"If you don't tell your friend to set the record straight, I'll... I'll start one about you." I threaten.
"First off, never threaten me again," he says lowly giving me a look that sends chills through my spine and not the good kind, "Second, which friend are you referring to?"
"Wesley Royal."
"Oh, my dear ol cousin?" He laughs a smirk taking over his face at the mention of the name, "You're the girl who said he had an STD?"
"On accident!"
"Well on accident or not, I can't stop Wes from destroying your life. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try to figure out how to take notes."
A final huff causes Vince to look my way once more before turning to the board where an immediate look of confusion takes over his face. Slumping down in my seat I try to come up with ways to get the rumor to go away.
Maybe I could just tell people it wasn't true? No, Wesley will just say I'm lying about it. Maybe I can move schools and possibly towns and just never have to see anyone who thinks I'm with Wesley again? Once again, I'm positive that my mother wouldn't be too happy about me asking to move... again. The last option is one I'm completely unwilling to do. I refuse... absolutely refuse to apologize to that jerk. He's the one who wouldn't leave me alone so what do I have to be sorry for? Nothing, that's right.
Or at least that's what I thought before hardly making it through my last classes of the day. I've been given more looks in the last twenty-four hours than I have maybe in my entire life. It started with glares. Girls everywhere giving me looks or pure disgust and jealousy, I preferred the former. The boys however were a different s********e looked at me in fear as if coming within a foot of me would result in their immediate death. Others were giving me eyes and completely checking me out. It was as if they saw me as a challenge, that or they just had some kind of death wish.
So as soon as my last class ended, I marched my way to my locker to hurry and get my books so I can leave this hell. That was until I was joined by a very unwelcomed visitor.
"Hey, you're Amelia Sanders right?"
Turning around I'm met with the face of Drew Drake, the school’s troublemaker. Drew wasn't a bad boy; he was simply a dumb boy. He's known by the ridiculous pranks he pulls and getting suspended for talking back and other irrational actions. Drew Drake is basically an off-brand version of Wesley Royal.
"Yes, how can I help you?"
"I was wondering if you wanted to go out this weekend."
"Go out where?" I ask dumbly. Surely there is no way that Drew is asking me out right now.
"Go out on a date." He smiles leaning into me almost trapping me in between him and my locker making me freeze.
"I don't- I can't- can you..." I stutter out trying to get him to move off me where my air seems to be stopped in my throat preventing me from speaking or breathing. I can feel my body shake in fear not knowing what to do in the situation that seemed oh so familiar.
That was until Drew's body was being ripped off of mine so quickly, I barely saw who did it.
"If I ever see you within two feet of her again, I'll be sure you can never walk again." Wesley seethes his voice dropping lower than I've ever heard it before. He sounds... scary. I know he creeps me out sometimes but right now he seems downright murderous. If I was Drew, I would have pissed my pants at the look in Wesley's eyes.
"You- You don't scare me." Drew stumbles out trying to act tough in front of the crowd that's forming around the two of us.
"I don't? Because last time we were in this situation you were in the hospital for a week." Wesley takes a step closer to Drew crowding him into the lockers next to mine, "This time you won't be so lucky. Your mom will have to visit the morgue to identify your body."
Fear fills Drew's eyes at the threat that sounds anything but empty. "Whatever, Royal. I'll leave your little girlfriend alone but don't think she won't come looking for a real man soon"
Wesley fist is flying as soon as the words come out if his mouth. It's only a single punch but that's all it took for Drew's body to fall in the floor unconsciously. "Watch your mouth asshole" he instructs giving the other boy a final kick to the stomach before grabbing my hand and pulling me away. When we're far enough away from the crowd I pull my hand out of his and start in on him.
"What the hell is wrong with you? I cannot believe you would do something like this! Actually, I can because you-"
"Just saved your a*s from whatever the hell that was." He points out looking mad but nothing like he did a minute ago.
"What that was was backlash from you telling people that I'm your god damn girlfriend!"
"God damn girlfriend weren't exactly my words," he smiles shooting me one of his smirks, "It was more like love of my life."
My mouth drops at his words, "Whatever the hell they were take them back." I grit before walking away.
Love of his life. Psst. He's just trying to get under my skin. We can't even stand each other. Right?
