"And what is the atomic number of sodium?"
"Six"
"Lia, you can't keep guessing by how many letters are in their name!"
Avery and I have been studying for our chemistry test and to say I'm hopeless is an understatement. After trying to study at my house for hours I managed to convince him to buy me dinner. So now here we are stuffing burgers in our faces at the diner down the street and studying. My exhaustion was already starting to kick in from Avery's merciful study habits. Along with my exhaustion was severe annoyance.
"I give up! I'm done, that's enough studying for one day!" I yell leaning my head against the cool marble tabletop hoping it'll ease my headache.
"We've barely done any work!" Avery yells looking surprised as if he hasn't been riding me like a horse all day.
"We've been working for HOURS! HOURS!" I don't think I've ever managed to study for more than two hours and Avery was clearly a pro but I couldn't do this. I had a short attention span.
"You're just lazy," He pouts sticking out his bottom lip for effect. "If we take a break you have to yell me to what happened today with Bad Boy Charming."
"I already told you him and Drew just had an Asshole-Off"
"There has to be more than that to it!"
"Well there wasn't!"
We begin staring each other down waiting for the other to back down. It was going to be him, I don't lose.
Before I have the chance to take my sweet victory the bell of the diner chimes grabbing my attention. Turing towards the door I see the familiar black pin-straight hair and blue eyes resembling my own. Blaire was here and she wasn't alone. She was with a group of boys and girls all loud and booming with laughter. Typical.
As they walk towards the large group sized tables in the back, I see Blaire recognize me. Upon seeing me she rushes over causing her insanely short skirt to flare up most likely flashing her a*s. "LiLi! What are you doing here?" She exclaims using my cringe-worthy childhood nickname.
"Just studying with a friend"
As soon as she hears friend, she looks over at Avery causing a sinister smile to take over her face, "A friend, huh? "
"Oh! No, we're not. I'm not." Avery begins to babble with a hilarious panicked look on his face making me laugh at his flustered appearance.
"What Avery here is trying to say is that he's gayer than a three-dollar bill," I laugh at the stunned look on both of their face due to my bluntness. Well Blaire looked stunned while Avery looked half eased half constipated.
"Um... sorry to interrupt but Blaire we're waiting for you to order." A tall blonde boy with an amazing build walks up to the table. The kid was beautiful. He looked like an Abercrombie model in his tight white shirt and letterman jacket. Oh man he was looking at me. His eyes are so blue. Was I in heaven?
We stare at each other until Blaire coughs pulling me out of my hormone induced trance, "Noah, meet Lia, my sister. I promise she usually doesn't drool this much when she meets new people"
I instantly wipe at my chin and lips while Avery and Blaire laugh at me. She was lying, I wasn't drooling. I don't drool over boys. I just stare when they're not looking. Completely different.
A wide smile takes over Noah's face as he outstretches one of his large hands, "Nice to meet you, Lia" His smile is perfect too. He is flawless. "You too" I smile back just as genuinely.
"Noah here is a senior. He's captain of the football team, honor student, student body president..." Blaire trails on smiling mischievously. She was plotting and I didn't like the look of it.
"Wow, you're really something aren't you?" I surprise myself by my flirty tone tilting my head up at his tall frame.
He immediately starts blushing at my compliment causing my stomach to erupt in butterflies, "Hardly, what about yourself?"
"Well, I played volleyball for a few years and have a pretty good GPA if that counts for something" I laugh feeling at ease with this beautiful male creature. That is until Blaire opens up her big mouth.
"You were horrible at volleyball but she's an amazing singer she even-" Blaire immediately stops when I shoot her a pointed angry look.
I wasn't angry with her. I just didn't like to talk about my past. I used to love to sing and dance and constantly be the center of attention but that changed my sophomore year. Things happen and you move on. It's life. But just because I was over it didn't mean I wanted a reminder of what I lost. Of what happened.
Noticing the change in vibe, Noah moves the change the subject before the awkward silence has a chance to spread. Too late for that. "Do you two want to join us?" He asks looking between us looking hopeful.
"Yeah, sure-" Avery starts before I interrupt him.
"No, we just finished eating and have to get home, nice meeting you." I say pushing past Noah and walking out the door to Avery's beat up old jeep.
I can see Avery standing on the other side of the glass talking to Blaire while it seems like they're exchanging phone numbers. After he's finished he walks outside and eyes me while unlocking his car doors.
"What was that about?"
"Nothing, drop it." I snap turning to look out of the window.
I can't believe I let my guard down and started flirting with him. He's exactly the type of boy who I should stay away from. The exact type of boy that he was. That was not a road I was going to go down ever again. Especially with everything going on with Wesley right now, I have more than enough problems in my life right now and I don't need another Kyle in my life.
When we finally reach my house, I grab my backpack and jump out of the car with a short goodbye to Avery before running inside. I throw my bag down and sit on the corner of my bed thinking. Thinking about everything that happened, thinking about everything that could have happened. My past was flooding back and there was nothing I could do to stop the memories from coming.
A knock come from the other side of my door making me quickly wipe away the tear that managed to escape. Traitors. My mother walks in either not noticing or ignoring my state and smiles at me.
"A boy came here looking for you today" A boy? Who would possibly come here and why?
"And who exactly was this boy you speak of?" I ask curious about how she was approaching the subject. She didn't look mad or anything just... smug. My mother and smugness were a dangerous combination.
"He said his name was Wesley, ring a bell?" A huge grin takes over her face at the mention of his name.
Wesley was here. In my home. With my mother. There is no way this could be good.
"What did he want?"
"He said he had to leave you something so I sent him up here and told him to put it on your desk."
She let him in my room! "You let him in my room!"
"He seemed like a nice boy." she shrugs dismissing me still beaming.
I look over and see a few pieces of paper on my desk. Reaching over and grabbing them, I realized that they're tickets to the football game on Friday with a sticky note attach to the top with an obnoxious note on it.
The best seats in the house reserved for you and one your one friend, loser.
You're coming
Wes
"You didn't tell me you had a boyfriend," My mother frowns from where she's standing behind me reading the note.
"That's because I don't." I sigh tossing the tickets back on the desk. If I don't acknowledge it, it isn't real.
"Well why not? He's a very handsome boy."
"Mom, he's Wesley the Vandal. He's nothing but trouble"
"I figured," she looks up contemplating, "You know you only live once honey."
"That's not an excuse to make dumb mistakes with dumb people," I roll my eyes at my mom's teenage like behavior. She's such a kid sometimes. She pushes my hair back planting a light kiss on my forehead before walking to the door.
"You know good boys are no fun, Hun."
"But bad boys are no good, mom."
