THE INVITATION
Part One: The Invitation
The town of Ravenshade was small, nestled between ancient woods and forgotten legends. Locals spoke of the Hollow—a stretch of forest where shadows moved without light and whispers came from nowhere. No one dared venture there after dark.
For Liana, Mira, and Elen, the forest had always been a place of childhood dares and ghost stories. Now, in their early twenties, they were drawn back to Ravenshade for a reunion, unaware that their bond would be tested by the darkness that lurked beneath the soil.
It started with a letter. An invitation written in a spidery hand, unsigned but addressed to all three. It read:
"Return to where it began. The Hollow awaits. One secret still remains."
None of them knew who sent it, but something about the message gnawed at their minds. Memories they had buried deep began to surface—half-remembered games, a night long ago when they had sworn never to return to the Hollow.
But curiosity is a dangerous thing. As the sun dipped beneath the horizon, casting Ravenshade in hues of amber and shadow, the three friends gathered at Liana's childhood home. The letter lay on the wooden table between them, its edges frayed as though it had traveled through time itself.
"I don't like this," Mira said, her fingers tracing the inked words. "Who would send this? And why now?"
Elen's gaze was distant, haunted. "Maybe it's nothing. A prank. Someone who knows about… that night."
But Liana shook her head. Her eyes, once filled with childhood curiosity, now held an edge of unease. "No one knows. We never told anyone."
The room fell silent, heavy with the weight of secrets long kept. Outside, the wind rustled through the trees, whispering like the echoes of a forgotten past.
Liana finally spoke, her voice steady but low. "We should go. Just to see. To put it to rest."
Mira hesitated. "And if it’s not just a prank?"
Liana's lips pressed into a thin line. "Then we face it together."
And though none of them spoke it aloud, they all felt the same chill coil in their spines. A feeling that the Hollow had been waiting for them. Watching.
And now, it was calling them home.
