Chapter15

15. ADA I still can't get over the feeling that I'm being watched. Everyday at the shop, I feel like someone is watching me from the shadows. I can’t see anyone, but I can feel the eyes on me and it's stressing me out. I'm always on edge, scared that something bad will happen any moment. Juliane hasn't called again since that day. I hope she calls. I want to tell someone this weird feeling I'm having. And I can't tell grandma. I don't want to stress her further. Juliane is supposed to have called by now. It's been over one week since we talked. I don't want to believe that something bad has happened to her and maybe that's why I'm having this weird sensation. She promised me she will take care of herself and she will be careful. I will hold onto that. I'm tempted to call her, but I know it's risky. “Have you heard from Juliane recently?” Grandma asks as she heats the oven. It's Sunday and she doesn't work on Sundays, so do I. She's baking chocolate cookies. My favorite since I became pregnant. She loves making them every Sunday. It's funny how I suddenly love chocolate cookies. I used to hate them. I guess it's the pregnancy hormones. “She hasn't called yet and I can't help but worry.” I told grandma about Sarah losing her baby. This shows that once Adrian finds out about my baby, he will take it away at all costs. But the good thing is that he will never find out about my pregnancy because there’s no record of it anywhere. Juliane made sure of that. I also told her about the death of that man who she rented the car from and that the car wasn't even registered in the company. Just like me, she's worried about Juliane. She could be in danger. “She's fine. I believe she is. Let's wait, I'm sure she will call one of these days,” grandma says, but I can see the worry on her face. “I hope so….” I mutter. Grandma picks the baking tray with the cookie dough and places it in the oven. She sets the timer and moves over to clean the utensils she used. “What do you do when I'm out for work?” She suddenly asks. I nervously gulp down. Does she know? “I'm thinking of getting a television. Something to keep you busy.” I secretly heave a relief breath. “No need for that. It's just a waste of money.” She places a clean bowl on the rack. “It's not. I'm sure we will need it once the baby is here.” “Until then. There are more important things we need money for.” We are slowly buying the baby things. There's a lot to buy, and we are taking it one step at a time. “I'm still buying it. You need it.” I sigh. Grandma will always do what she wants. I walk towards the fridge to take a bottle of water but suddenly feels sharp pain on my lower abdomen. “Arggh….” I groan in pain. Grandma is by my side in the next second. “Ada, are you okay?” The pain intensifies. I scream, holding my stomach. “It's painful.” “Take a deep breath. I got you.” She helps me to the living room to sit, but I can't. I feel a very sharp pain the moment I try to sit. I scream, holding my stomach. “My baby…..” I'm panting and I suddenly feel hot and sweaty. “Your baby is fine…. I…..” grandma is all over the place. She doesn't know what to do. I don't know what to do either. All I can feel is pain. I was fine a while ago. What suddenly changed. Grandma rubs my back. Guiding me to take a deep breath. I can feel her trembling. “Ada you are…..” She trails. I look down between my legs and there's blood. “No…. No…. My baby no!” I can't breathe. My chest feels like it's constricting. My legs shake and grandma holds me tight. My whole weight on her. “Take a deep breath Ada. You are fine. Your baby is fine. I'm here okay.” I'm shaking, my breathing wavering and I feel the heaviness of my eyelids. I feel sleepy. I want to give in. I feel a tap on my cheeks and struggle to keep my eyes open. “Stay with me, my child. Open your eyes please.” That's the last sentence I heard before darkness clouds me. ……… ADRIAN This council meeting right now is not where I want to be. I've been having a cold sensation since last night. It's as if something bad happened or about to happen. I don't believe in jinx or superstition but last night, the glass of wine I was holding firmly, suddenly slipped and broke into pieces. I'm scared that something bad might have happened to Ada. Now I want to find her as soon as possible. I'm on the edge, restless. I want to find her and make sure that she's fine. I'm able to contact some hunters in the human cities. Those that owe me a favour and those I can negotiate with. I gave them her picture, if they find her, they should alert me. I'm trying to negotiate with others. I don't want them finding her and killing her before I get to her. I have hope that I will find her, and I won't stop believing that she's fine and safe. “It's been over two months since you divorced and rejected the previous Luna. It's high time you announce it to the pack members. They deserve to know,” Matthew, one of the council members says. A lot has been said already in this meeting but I wasn't even paying attention. Their whining and complaining is not my worry right now. “And you also need to find yourself another Luna. You need an heir, a successor. And I believe Sarah is a good option,” Jorge, another council member chips in. I realize that they are pressuring me to marry Sarah because they think I have a thing with her so I asked her to leave the pack house. She was hurt and I hate myself for hurting her. She's nothing but a sweet soul. I'm the one with the problem. The one that's still in love with his wife who left him. I love Sarah, but no longer the way I used to. Things have changed. It's better to let her go than give her false hopes. Mother has extended her coming back and I can't be more glad about that. I want to find Ada before she comes back. “The barren Luna couldn't even give him an heir,” another council member mumbles. I glare at him, my nose flaring in anger. “How dare you!” I roar. He recoils, trembling in fear. I'm trying to hold back myself from going towards him and tear him apart for daring to insult Ada. “Anyone that dares to insult my Luna again. I will behead them!”
