The Date

" poor child, who dare dump you?" I fluttered my eyes at the sound of the familiar voice and let out a loud hiss when I caught a glimpse of Anna's face. I shook my head and looked around the familiar surroundings. This is my room. How did I get here? As if answering the question on my mind, she said, "If you are wondering how you got here, one Greek god brought you" I scoffed and looked away, my eyes burning with unshed tears. How could she joke at this time? I just had the most gruesome and strangest heartbreak. She clearly doesn't know what I'm passing throughor she is just being an asshole as usual—such a pretender. I forced the bile in my throat down and exhaled difficultly before yelling at her. " Get out of my room!" I yelled and I could see the shocked look on her face from my blurry vision. " sending me away won't heal your broken heart." Her voice sounded caring and my tears streamed like the flow of a river. For the first time in ages, I agreed with my stepmom. Sending her away won't heal my broken heart but does she realize that her presence makes it difficult for me because she is also a villain who barged in and ruined the beautiful relationship my parents had just the way Abrielle ruined mine? " You are no different from the other girl who ruined my relationship with Apollo." I gritted, my blood boiling with anger. "Why do people like you have to exist? Apollo loved me, he was going to propose!" I yelled and she shook her head at me with a pity look on her face. I hate that look on her face so much. I don't want her pity! It made me want to scratch her face with my fingernails. " you are so delusional, Lucinda. Quit dreaming and face the reality. Apollo dumped you for some other girl whom he believes is better than you." Her brutal words hit me as hard as a rock. How could she say that to my face? Does she even know how much it hurts? " Abrielle is not better than me. She is not better than me!" I screamed at her and gripped my hair tightly. My scalp hurts but it can't be compared to the pain that I feel in my heart. " Oh, it's her? why am I not surprised?" Anna snorted and I heard her footsteps retreating towards the window. A cool breeze blew into the room. She had parted the curtains and I realized it was early in the morning. " A man who left you for your friend never loved you in the first place." She began and I rolled my eyes. Bitches like her and Abrielle sure have excuses for their evil deeds. Only a fool will say that my dad never loved my mom until Anna came into the picture. " You should pick yourself up and make sure they regret it," she said and I rolled my eyes. "the same way I will make sure you regret breaking my parents apart. Now get out!" Two days have passed and I still haven't come to the acceptance that I have been played, dumped, and betrayed. Abrielle and I had been best friends since high school and Apollo, we dated for six months. Left numerous texts for Apollo but he never returns any of them. I tossed the blanket away with my leg and reached for my phone on the nightstand. I lost track of the minutes that I stared at the screen of my phone and after much sighing and contemplating, I touched the green button on my phone and drew in a sharp breath. " Hello," my heart skipped at the sound of his voice and everything remained still. Apollo answered my call. He f*****g did. My eyes watered as I tried to compose myself and speak. " Can we meet?" I asked with my shaky voice. At this point, I don't care if I sound stupid. What matters is that he heard me well. " Tell me what you don't understand, Lucinda?" My heart ached at the way he called me. He had never called me any name apart from Cinda. I swallowed the big lump in my throat and exhaled slowly while using my left arm to wipe the tears on my face away. " I dont under..stand why.. you... suddenly changed your mind about me and... and went after my friend," I choked on my words but I was glad I let it out and at the same time nervous of his response. " You are not good enough. You are just a weak pretty girl who doesn't have anything to offer. Stop comparing yourself to her and I don't want to ever see you again. What we had was just passing out time while I waited for the heavens to lead me to the rightful one. I've found her, she is my wo-" " Shut up!" I roared, my lips tasting salty. " What does the heavens have to do with human relationships? The heaven doesn't have anything to do with it!" I screamed at him with all the hurt and brokenness in my heart. Why does he have to make up something senseless to justify what he did to me? " Poor people are dumb and blind." He smirked and the phone beeped, signifying that the call had been disconnected. " Apllo! You Asshole! You will regret this!!" Looking at the couples giggling excitedly, the man had just proposed to her in the bar and the pain of the past visited my fragile heart. It's been one year but it still felt like yesterday. And in this past year, I spent half of it pleading with Apollo to take me back. I even got into a fight with Abrielle, I stooped so low to be humiliated in public but in the end, I still lost the battle. Working in this bar as a bartender has helped me heal a bit. Serving drinks and watching them get drunk until they came back to me at the counter to spill the hurt in their heart to me, I knew I wasn't the only one who was unfortunate with love. " One glass of tequila please, "I looked over to the sexily dressed blonde-haired. Half of her face was covered by her hair. " here," I pushed the glass forward. A scoff made me turn back and my shoulder dropped when I recognized who just scoffed. Meet Jason, the greatest bully, and Abrielle's brother. I rolled my eyes and continued with what I was doing. He is known for causing Havoc. Why will I entertain him when I know very well that my job will be at risk? " I was told you work here, Lucinda?" He began with his annoying voice. I ignored him and continued with what I was doing. Like I said, I wasn't going to entertain his banters. "Don't you think it's time to give me a chance at love?" My face wrinkled in disgust at his question. This wasn't the first time. He had been pursuing me even before I got together with Apollo and he had accused me of choosing Apollo over him because of Apollo's wealth. " Look, Lucinda, I will never hurt you or betray you. I'm not like him," He sounded sincere but I've heard that countless times and he doesn't have a place in my heart. I don't feel anything for him. " Tell that to your sister who backstabbed me," I gritted and tucked a strand of hair behind my face. " I don't love you, Jason, nothing is going to happen between you and me," I told him bluntly and I don't care if his ego and feelings were hurt. " I will keep chasing you until you say yes." I scoffed and watched him leave dejectedly before spanking the blondie ass. ASSHOLE! After serving the last customer, I counted all the money I made and my face dropped. "Two hundred dollars won't be enough" I sighed heavily. " How about twenty thousand dollars and be my date to a wedding tomorrow?" For a moment, I lost my breath as I looked up at the oval face before me. Twenty thousand dollars just to be a date to a wedding? That is too good to be true. "I... don't... get it. twenty thousand for what?" I stuttered, my eyes glued to his lilac eyes. His mouth twitched and my stomach fluttered. " Twenty thousand dollars to be my date to a wedding tomorrow," He repeated and my mouth curved slowly. His piercing gaze on me and I force myself to look away. How on earth does he look good like Apollo and at the same time look unwealthy, sounds familiar but claim to have twenty thousand dollars to offer? " what do you say?" His baritone voice brought me out of my thoughts and I looked at him in a daze. "yes," I blurted before I even realized it. He smiled and my knees went weak as he leaned closer and placed a card on the counter. " I will pick you up by 5 pm tomorrow. You can call me if you need anything." With that said, he winked at me, making my knees weaker before striding out majestically. His back disappeared out of the bar and I blinked my eyes rapidly before pinching my skin with my fingers. I whimpered and shook my head but I wasn't dreaming. I looked down at the counter and saw a brown card and a blue paper. I picked up the card and saw his contact number there. He didn't even write his name. I picked the blue paper and I gasped at what was written on it. A cheque of twenty thousand dollars? Whoa! Freaking twenty thousand dollars. I rubbed my eyes and stared at it again. How on earth is this even possible? Why did he come all the way here to give me this offer? Does it mean a handsome dude like him doesn't have a girlfriend or women flocking around him? Who knows, the cheque might be a fake because he doesn't look rich at all. I dipped the cheque and card in my handbag and went home. I rub my eyes at the chirping sound of my alarm the next morning. Rolling over on the bed, I kicked the alarm with my foot and went back to sleep. An hour later, the knock on the door woke me up but I didn’t leave the bed. Staring blankly at the ceiling, the event of last night flashed through my mind. Especially my encounter with the man who asked me to be his date. I immediately jumped down from my bed and ran to where my bag lay lazily on the floor. I dipped my hand into it and searched for the Cheque. I pulled it out and held it with two hands. I have never received a cheque before but it doesn’t look fake. I would have confided in Anna but she is not one to be trusted with money. My phone beeped and I rushed to the bed to see who it was. I swiped the screen, my eyes still glued on the figures on the cheque, and placed the phone on my ear. “ Hello, who is this?” I asked. “ A package is at your doorstep. Get ready, I will pick you up by two.” The baritone stern voice said and Immediately, I recognized the voice. It’s him. How did he get my number? “ Is the cheque real?” I asked him curiously but got a snort as a response. “ Find out.” He said and hung up. “ What a pompous man.” I huffed. I hid the cheque under my pillow and went downstairs to check the package. “ Are you Lucinda?” I heard a voice from the corner of the mailbox and I turned my head to see a man in a black suit carrying a box. “ umm, yeah,” I answered, tucking a strand of hair behind my ear, my eyes fixed on the label on the box. “ my boss asked me to deliver this.” He handed the box over and I reluctantly took it. Without saying another word, he turned around and drove away in a black Maybach. I watched as the car disappeared into the distance and immediately it was out of sight, I ran back into the house and placed the box gently on my bed. Squealing, I picked up my phone and typed Abrielle’s number but the excitement vanished from my face when I remembered she was no longer my friend. I groan and throw the phone on the bed before proceeding to remove the box lid. I picked the brown note attached to it and read it aloud, my lips twitching with a grin. “ Dress sexy,” the note read. Just two words but they made me feel ecstatic and nervous at the same time.
