As I stood before the mirror, the soft glow of the vanity lights danced across my skin, illuminating the intricate black lace that hugged my curves. The revealing outfit showcased my toned thighs and for a moment, I couldn’t help but ask myself why he chose this type of outfit.
The beep of my phone drew my attention away from my reflection in the mirror. My heart raced in my chest as I unlocked my phone to read the text.
“ I’m outside,”
I swallowed hard and let out a long breath before doing a finishing touch.
I pushed the door open slowly and there he was, hands tucked in his pant pockets. His hair was gorgeously styled and everything about him screamed luxury. He was even more handsome than he was last night. How could someone radiate perfection and danger at the same time?
Our eyes locked. His gaze lingered on my exposed skin, a thrill of excitement coursed through my veins, a sly smile spreading across my lips.
“ Hello, Adonis,” I cooed. He gulped slowly and I felt empowered, feeling a vision of confidence and allure.
“ Not bad,” he complimented, my face flushed and it took a lot of self-control not to leap on him and devour his face with kisses. If I am gorgeous then he is.. what is that word again, out of this world?
“ You look dashing,” I grinned at him and he just nodded slowly, his eyes fixed on my chest
The car drove through the bustling city and for a moment, I wondered why he chose me to be his date. I don`t even know him but whatever, it's my gain. After about thirty minutes, the car came to a halt. I looked outside the window and let the air blow away my nervousness.
It is just a date. I told myself silently and got out of the car as he opened the door.
Out of nowhere, the camera flashes in our direction and I turned my face to avoid the blinding flashes. My palm tingled and my legs went jelly when I felt his warm hand on mine, holding me like I was his real girl. Well, I think this is some kind of charade.
The reporters rushed forward with their microphones and I felt like I was in a movie. Now, whoever my date is, he must be some rich powerful dude.
Reporter one: Mr. Steeles, is that your girlfriend?
Reporter two: Do you plan on marrying her after your brother`s wedding?
Reporter three: Did you get a girlfriend because your family is keen on you getting married?
Numerous questions flew in our direction, well, My date`s direction whom I just discovered his name is Steeles.
Immediately we made it past the mass reporters with the help of the bodyguards, i let out a sigh of relief and tried to pull my hand away but he held on tight.
I gulp slowly and obediently followed his lead. I am paid for this, so I might as well put on a good act.
We walked into the party and the guests rushed forward to greet Steeles but he didn't seem to be interested. They wore disappointing looks on their faces as he gave them the cold treatment and left them. I had to smile at them nervously on his behalf.
My heart raced in my chest as we made our way forward. What if the two men I don`t want to ever meet again are here? What will I do? Maybe this was a bad idea in the first place. I shouldn't have agreed to it.
Steele turned to face me when he noticed my reluctance to keep moving. He let go of my hand and wrapped his arm around my shoulder before pulling me to himself and whispered into my ear. " we won`t stay long,"
Well, I expected it to calm me but it didn't. The thought of him seeing me on media baffles me. Will he recognize me and come after me?
I lifted my head and saw two familiar faces approaching us. My heart sank inside my stomach and anger surged through my blood.
Abrielle and Charles?
I swallowed my range. I`ve moved on.
" Hello, brother," Charles greets his brother but I sensed animosity in the tone and I felt his gaze on me. I guess he wasn't expecting me at his wedding and I wasn't expecting myself to be at their wedding as well.
" Hi, brother-in-law," Abrielle cooed and scoffed at me and I just smiled at her.
" I see you`ve got my ex as your date," Charles chuckled mockingly and I wished he didn't bring that up. Why can`t he just have a nice conversation with his brother without bringing me into it?
If I knew Steele was his brother and we were attending this bastard`s wedding with that b***h, I wouldn't have come.
Steele's arm pulled me closer and he said to his brother in the most menacing voice that I've ever heard.
" I see your taste in a wife is sour,"
I chuckled at Abrielle`s pale face. I can`t imagine being insulted by my in-laws at my wedding.
Well, she deserves it. She broke the sister`s code.
I smirked at her and left with Steele.
He grabbed a seat for me and served me a drink.
" I`ll be back in five minutes," He said and strode into the crowd.
I placed the glass to my lip and gulped the drink slowly.
I let out a loud sigh and started planning our relocation mentally.
I can`t continue living in this town anymore. He will find me sooner than later now that my face is in the media. I shouldn't have accepted the deal. But if I didn't accept his help two years ago, I would have gone to jail but this doesn't look like freedom. This is more like stylishly being in prison. I don`t even know who I am hiding from. He could be watching me right now. I shouldn't have run away after the deal.
" You couldn't have Apollo, so you went for his brother?"
I glared at the b***h in front of me. Even with make-up, she still looked as dirty as her betrayal.
"Aren't you supposed to be enjoying your wedding with your husband? Don`t tell me you want to go for his brother now because you always have a thing for what is Lucinda`s."
" Are you saying I stole Apollo from you?" Abrielle asked, her face green with anger and I sipped casually from my glass. Why is she acting like I told a lie? Apollo was going to propose to me. Well, that was what I thought. I never knew this b***h was flirting with him.
" I am saying, you can have him. But it seemed like he hadn't gotten over me. His eyes are all over me," I told her and nudged in Apollo’s direction and chuckled at Abrielle’s jealous expression when she saw her husband ogling.
" You.." Abrielle raged but immediately flashed me a pretentious smile and I turned to see Steele standing behind me. No wonder that b***h shut her mouth.
" Brother Jacob,"
" I’m not your brother," Steele said coldly and her face dropped.
We left the party immediately. Steele seemed to be in a bad mood and I dare not make my request known to him. His aura is just too suffocating and scary.
" Something on your mind?" He asked, adjusting his cufflinks and my heart skipped a beat.
I decided to tell him what was on my mind.
" I was thinking.. if you could.. help me tell the media not to publish my photos," I managed to say and waited eagerly for his response, and after a long wait, he responded.
" Are you hiding from someone?" He asked, raising his left brow at me and I immediately looked away with my heart pounding.
How did he know I am hiding from someone? Should I just tell him? He seemed powerful and could protect me from him.
" No," I answered drily.
" For two years, you`ve hidden from me. Don`t you think it is time to pay off your debt, Lucinda?"
My jaw dropped. Cold sweats dripped down my face and for a moment I forgot to breathe as I stared at the man sitting next to me. A smirk tugged at the corner of his perfect lips like a predator who had found its long-lost prey. It can`t be him. He can`t be the faceless man who got me out of prison. No..
" Welcome back, LIttle Luci," He cackled and I felt dizzy. My head throbbed and I felt the lights leaving my eyes and I was welcomed into the darkness. The dark world of Jacob Steele.
