Chapter 1
Meghan had already been awake for hours when her alarm clock rang. For her, every day before school began, it was impossible for her to sleep properly. Stress? the excitement of reuniting with her dear friends? the possibility of meeting new people? she did not know the reason for these repeated insomnias. Anyway, before each important event, she could not sleep.
After having already dozed for a long time and thought about her outfit for the day, she got up and started to get ready.
Meghan was neither exuberant nor introverted. Her own style allowed her to alternate skirts and heels with wide jeans and sneakers. She also liked to take care of herself and her appearance, without overdoing it either.
Meghan had barely finished styling her long, thick auburn hair when she heard quick footsteps on the stairs. Few seconds later, Aston bursts into her room without knocking.
"We're waiting for you to eat breakfast, hurry up, I'm starving!" says Aston, her twin brother.
"I'm almost done, I'm coming!" replied Meghan.
“Hurry hurry hurry, your big brother is hungry.” Meghan responded by throwing a pillow at him, which he dodged, closing the door at the same time.
Aston was born few minutes before Meghan and had arrogated the right to consider himself as his big brother and the eldest of his family. He was a tall, slender boy, while Meghan was more of an average height. He had inherited, like Meghan, the auburn hair from their mother. He had their father's hazel eyes, while Meghan had their mother's turquoise eyes.
Although they are fake twins, Aston and Meghan looked alike physically but even more through their personalities. They were both caring, sporty and determined people. In addition, they did not like being stepped on and had repartee.
Meghan finished adjusting her makeup and went down to the dining room where her parents, brother and little sister were already waiting for her.
Her father looked at Meghan, amused. “Have you noticed that the less you sleep, the longer it takes you to get ready? ". His siblings burst out laughing. Meghan's parents knew she was prone to insomnia whenever an event was brewing. When she first entered high school two years ago, she had not slept for three nights before the fateful day. Amy, her mother, had even found her in the middle of the night watching insect documentaries on the living room television, discouraged that she could not sleep.
Meghan sat down at the table and enjoyed her breakfast in good spirits with her family. She knew how lucky she was to enjoy these moments with them. Seeing them all laughing together, caring about each other's well-being, it is a chance that everyone did not have in their pack.
Few years earlier, violent fighting had made hundreds of victims in the packs of the territory. And a lot of families mourned fathers, mothers, brothers, or sisters who disappeared in these futile confrontations. Meghan's family had been blessed to remain intact and she was grateful for that. In her high school, some students were now orphans of father, mother or both. This was the case of the future Alpha, Jax. Luna Astoria, his mother, had not survived. His father, Alpha Jake, had not been the same since her disappearance. He held the pack afloat until Jax was old and experienced enough to take over. The death of his Luna, his fated mate, had plunged him into an almost insurmountable grief.
After hugging their parents and lovingly ruffling their little sister's hair, Meghan and Aston grabbed their school bags and headed off to their high school. For them, back to school day was a day earlier than for their little sister Alixia.
As the twins walked through the hall of their high school, two hands came up behind Meghan’s back to press against her eyes.
"Guess who it is!" »
Meghan squealed with delight and turned to hug her best friend, Johanna. Two months without seeing each other seemed like an eternity for Meghan, who has known her best friend since kindergarten. Johanna had gone on a trip with her family to discover the other allied packs in the region. In fact, it was more of a diplomatic trip since her father was Alpha Jake's Beta. Beta Maxence had therefore taken the opportunity to take his family with him so that they could discover the other packs. Even though Johanna had called Meghan every day, the latter had no doubt that she still had a lot to learn about this fabulous trip.
When Johanna also greeted Aston, whom she had also known of course since her childhood, giggles could be heard in the hallway. Indeed, Jax and his gang had just walked through the hall of the school and, as always, some she-wolves could not resist the urge to show their interest in him. Those giggles seemed to have intensified since last year, perhaps because Jax turned eighteen this summer and still had not found his fated mate. The future Alpha Jax was among the elite of the pack and was accompanied only by strong, high-blooded werewolves: Melania, Johanna's older sister and Beta's first child, Daryl, and Hector, both sons of the Gammas of the Alpha. Their walk through the corridors exulted a strong aura, powerful and enslaving. They were the future leaders of the pack and paid, in truth, little attention to omegas.
The group wandered among the giggles, many students rushing to greet them. Meghan and Aston did not really paid attention to them. Johanna was also quite uncomfortable with her status as the "second" child: Melania was not always tender with her and she tended to push her away systematically when Jax, Hector and Daryl were nearby.
Johanna muttered, "How about we head to our class?". The twins did not need to be asked twice and took the path to their main class. Arrived at the door, Meghan stopped short and put her head in her hands "I forgot my bag in front of the lockers earlier! settle down but save me a nice place huh!".
She ran away, afraid to arrive after the bell for her very first class of the year. The corridors were now empty. Meghan took a final turn and thought she hit a wall. While the fall to the ground seemed inevitable, she suddenly felt a hand hold her by grabbing her arm. Stunned, Meghan looked up and was left speechless.
Jax was watching her, his gaze locked with hers. He parted his lined lips, "It's not recommended to run in the hallways, don't you know?". Meghan sensed a hint of sarcasm.
"Oh my…, I'm completely sorry. I am so sorry…” she said, paralyzed by the thought of who she had hit head-on.
Jax was still holding her arm, tightly. In this promiscuity, for a moment, Meghan took the time to observe him closely. Beautiful lips, a square jaw, black hair and piercing green eyes. His arms were powerful, his pectorals drawn under his white t-shirt, and you could guess the power of his thighs through his cargo pants. Everything about him breathed the Alpha, and in that moment when Meghan found herself so close to him, she even smelled his intoxicating scent.
Had this moment lasted a second or an hour?
Jax finally let go of her arm and walked away from Meghan, as if nothing had happened, as if Meghan had not bumped into him. He seemed so strong. He had not moved an inch when Meghan could have been thrown violently to the ground if he had not caught her.
"Look ahead next time, little omega."
