I followed Caleb and Zelda across the lawn in total silence. I could see that Zelda was scared, and I felt bad for her. She had done nothing wrong. There was no reason for her to be subjected to the fate she now faced. She was the victim in this situation. And even though I knew that, and I acknowledged it, there was nothing I could do to save her from the fate she now faced. Because I knew that if I tried to save her, I would be sealing my own death warrant.
"You're a craven coward," Crash muttered, shaking his head in disgust.
"What are you talking about?" I hissed at him.
"This human woman doesn't deserve the compassion you are so eager to show her," he replied.
