Blurb

In an age where beauty commands armies and crowns are won through cunning rather than blood, two powerful souls meet under the guise of alliance.

King Alaric Vaelborn, ruler of the most feared empire in the continent, is known for his unmatched strength, sharp intellect — and insatiable appetite for beauty. His court is filled with women he never keeps for long, for his heart belongs only to his throne. He is a man untamed, feared by his enemies, and worshiped by his subjects. But beneath his charm lies a deep loneliness — one he refuses to acknowledge.

Princess Seraphina of Auralis is the youngest daughter of a dying kingdom. A rose among thorns, she hides her ruthless mind behind soft smiles and innocent eyes. While her brothers drink and squander their birthright, she studies statecraft and warfare. She has no interest in being another man's pawn — until her father promises her hand to the King of Vaelborn to save their faltering alliance.

On the day of her wedding, Seraphina swears to herself — if she must marry a king, she will rule beside him.

But when she stands before Alaric, she feels the dangerous pull between them — the same heat she must never surrender to. On their wedding night, she tells him with a steady gaze:

“I did not marry you for love, nor to be another of your conquests. I married you to rule.”

Instead of anger, her defiance awakens something in him — intrigue.

From that moment, a slow and dangerous game begins between husband and wife.

She plays her part as the perfect queen — clever, graceful, impossible to manipulate. He flirts, teases, and tests her limits, both politically and emotionally. Yet as she begins to wield her influence in court, winning the hearts of nobles and soldiers alike, Alaric starts to realize that his greatest threat may be his own queen.

But obsession is a dangerous thing for a man like him.

What begins as fascination soon turns into desire — and desire into devotion.

And when enemies move against the throne, Seraphina and Alaric will discover that their greatest strength lies in the passion they tried to deny.

Prologue-The Marriage of kingdoms
The great hall of Auralis shimmered in gold. Candles burned like stars above a sea of nobles, their whispers weaving through the music like serpents. The scent of wine and rose oil filled the air, heavy and sweet — the fragrance of alliance, deception, and power. At the end of the marble aisle stood King Alaric Vaelborn. He wore black and silver, the colors of his empire. His crown gleamed, forged from the same steel that had crushed empires beneath his hand. Broad-shouldered and striking, he looked less like a monarch and more like a myth — dangerous, handsome, and perfectly aware of it. Beside him, his lips curved slightly, not quite a smile. He was a man who had seen kingdoms burn for beauty — and tonight, he was to wed one. The heavy doors opened. Princess Seraphina of Auralis entered, her gown a river of white silk, her veil trailing behind like moonlight. The nobles gasped; even Alaric’s eyes flickered. She was not beautiful in the ordinary way — her beauty was quiet, composed, laced with something sharper than innocence. Every step she took echoed like a drumbeat in his chest. She stopped before him, her chin lifted, her expression unreadable. He studied her — the steady heartbeat at her throat, the calm in her eyes that didn’t match the tremor in her hands. He leaned in slightly, his voice low enough that only she could hear. “You tremble, my bride.” Her lashes lifted slowly, her voice a breath of defiance. “A lion’s gaze can make anyone tremble, Your Majesty.” He chuckled, surprised. “So the lamb knows what hunts her.” “The lamb,” she murmured, eyes gleaming through the veil, “was never the prey.” The vows began. The priest’s words blurred into background noise as they stared at one another, each measuring, each testing. When the priest asked if she had taken the King’s hand willingly, her answer was clear and sharp as a blade. “I do — for the sake of my kingdom.” Alaric’s smile deepened, a flicker of amusement — and something else, something darker. “And I,” he said, “for the sake of mine.” The rings were exchanged. The hall erupted in applause. A fragile peace sealed by a kiss he did not take. Not yet. Later that night, the palace was quiet. The moon poured silver light across the royal chambers — the room prepared for their first night as husband and wife. A dozen maids had decorated it with rose petals, wine, and silk sheets. But the King dismissed them all. He found her standing by the balcony, her hair unbound, her crown glinting in the pale light. She looked like a goddess carved from frost. He leaned against the doorway, watching her. “You haven’t touched the wine.” “I don’t drink on the nights. I must think clearly.” “And what are you thinking, my queen?” She turned, eyes sharp as glass. “That I will not be a trophy for your court. I will rule beside you, not beneath you.” For a moment, silence filled the room — heavy, dangerous, thrilling. Then, Alaric laughed softly, the sound deep and genuine. “Bold words on your wedding night.” “Truth seldom waits for permission.” He moved closer, his shadow swallowing hers. “You intrigue me, Seraphina. You stand before the wolf and do not flinch.” “Then perhaps,” she said, lifting her chin, “you should ask yourself if the wolf has met his match.” He stopped a breath away, his hand reaching to brush a stray curl from her cheek — slow, deliberate, testing. She didn’t step back. “Sleep well, my queen,” he murmured, his voice velvet and threat intertwined. “You’ll need your strength. The game has only begun.” And with that, he turned and left her standing in the moonlight — heart steady, mind racing. Outside, thunder rolled across the mountains. Inside, two kingdoms, bound by vows and ambition, waited for dawn.
