Morning arrived like a slow bruise. Soft light leaked through the curtains, pale and hesitant, touching the corners of my room before daring to reach me. My eyes opened reluctantly, heavy from everything. My body felt weightless, but my chest? My chest carried a whole city. I lay there, staring at the ceiling, trying to decide if getting up was bravery or foolishness, when my phone buzzed on my nightstand. A small vibration, but it shot straight through my veins. Mason. I didn’t even touch the phone, just seeing his name made the day feel brighter. “Landing later this evening… and we never got to pick a date.” I blinked. A date? For…? My brows knitted together as my brain replayed days, moments, conversations, then it hit hard, Like the universe shot memory directly into my face.
