Chapter 42October 17th, Tuesday Evening It didn't take long to get there. I went down the alley behind the houses. A cat ran away, briefly startling me and made me think of Perky. It wasn't her. There wasn't any way that she could have gotten there ahead of me. Ahead I could see Logan's house rising above the fences. I stayed close to the boards so that he wouldn't be able to see me easily. I even got off the bike and pushed it along. None of the windows were light. I didn't see any movement. At last I reached the back gate and peeked through the crack. His backyard was well-tended but a bit sparse. The garden plot was bare. I guess he couldn't be bothered to actually plant anything.
