Save herself

Ophelie's POV Loic flickered his gaze not at me but at the figure who stood before me. A hand was held out to me as he waited for me to take his hand and lead me out of here. It was one I was desperate to hold onto because it was embarrassing being portrayed as the third person in front of everyone to see, know, and at the same time show them all the position you will always be. That you were just there to be f****d and nothing else. That left a bitter bile in my throat, one that stuck no matter how hard I tried to force it down. " Loic? Are you both close?" "I am sorry I didn't have the pleasure of introducing myself. I am Dominic. Alpha Dominic of the Catan pack." " When did you get back?" Loic asked, his question coming out as odd because it seemed whoever it was didn't seem to be welcomed here. " Dominic, I never knew you were in town. When did you get back? And we rarely ever see you." Astrid chipped in. Her voice was high enough to let me know that she was acquainted with whoever it was that should be considered important. " I can see you both missed me, but that isn't what I care about. Adele, you shouldn't keep a gentleman hanging." He had a hand out still, and that smile that hung on his lips melted my heart. I turned to Loic, wanting to know what to do, when Dominic added. "He wouldn't mind. You don't have to care about whatever he might think. As long as you aren't Astrid, Loic is always going to be fine. He doesn't let anyone go close to Astrid, and it's a well-known fact." " And it is one that I have seen respected to. You can go ahead and have the dance with Dominic." Loic finally said, turning his attention back to Astrid, which confirmed what I had just been told over again. " Luckily for you, you are just here to birth an heir, and immediately you are done; you can go away." " I will be allowed to?" I questioned naively even when I had no plan to stay for that long. I had better things to do, and they involved me not being in sanctum that long, but just enough to get the pack after killing Loic. " Yes, of course. It would be the best choice, seeing how much Astrid hates you already." " You can tell?" " Come off it." His hands rested on my lower waist. "I can perceive it all the way from here. She doesn't like you, aside from you being a breeder. She has something else against you." He had keen eyes, and I was beginning to like conversing with him. He suddenly was beginning to seem like someone who would be much of a help to me aside from Loic, and a friend who would be helpful eventually, as long as he didn't end up harboring any feelings for me, we would be fine. " Well, well, I guess being his breeder comes with a lot of problems." He spun me around before bringing me back to his chest as we waltzed. " You can always come over to Catan if you feel parched or if you feel it is too much, and I will treat you just right." " A friend or as?" " A friend." He said. "For now." " For now? I don't think Loic would want me with you, though. Do you both have something together? The way he talked down on you, I could sense something was off, like you don't see eye to eye." " And you are right, we don't see eye to eye on most matters, and that is why we are this way. We both have things we want; we are men, and when someone keeps showing off all the time, it's becoming annoying." " And how annoying does knowing Loic get?" I waited for an answer when his face melted into a smirk. " You wouldn't want to know. You should be content just being his breeder. He will never let you go once you are his; that is why it will be difficult leaving after birthing a child, but maybe you might be lucky be the exception that you never knew he would have." I could sense Dominic's hatred for Loic was something I could use, and what was wrong with being friends with someone who undoubtedly you both have a similar interest in? We both hated Loic, and I could use him to an advantage. To get Loic to trust me fully. " You must hate him." I threw the bait at him, waiting for what he would say. Something that would tell his intent, the degree, and to what percentage he was ready to go to harm Loic. " I don't hate him. I despise him. Loic has this air around him like he is perfect and he could get whatever he wants, and he isn't scared to go to any length just so that he can make that happen. It is scary, and at the same time, it is a beautiful thing to watch." " Why?" I waited for an answer when he halted, taking a step back just enough for me to know we had spent enough time together. " I have to go, my lady. Dominic is the name; keep it imprinted in your mind." He had two fingers up in a salute before he walked away, leaving me parched and thirsty. " Well, well..." I accepted a flute of champagne from a waiter who had walked past before stepping out for a bit of fresh air, as I felt stuffed. Freedom at last. I grunted when my heels dug into the soft carpeted grass while I made my way past the fountain toward a lake, which I had never seen before, but I was determined to do so. It was endless and vast, and...my words caught in my throat when I felt a shadow behind me, and before I could spin around to take a glance at who it was, I felt my body being shoved into the lake. The current taking me away. I fought and tried to will myself to swim, but I couldn't. Who was it that had done this? How did they know I was unable to swim and could barely move a limb to save myself?
