Loic's POV
" Are you still pissed about Dominic being here?" Astrid asked me while I gazed at Dominic, who was waltzing with Adele.
She seemed more content and glad with him than she had ever been with me, and it left a bitter and sour taste on my lips, the same way his name does.
He wasn't supposed to be here. Dominic was the alpha of Catan pack. My only rival in every single thing. He has his eyes set on whatever it was that he saw I liked, and that stretched onto the women in my life.
Astrid had not been left out. He had tried to woo her and get her to date him with his flirty smile how charismatic he could be, and she had almost been swayed if I had been fast enough to stop it, but I couldn't help but let it bother me. The fact that she might still carry a torch for him and somewhere in her, it wouldn't take much to get her to his side.
"No. I don't just understand how exactly he got to be here. That is all."
He danced like the world was his field and we all were merely here to accompany whatever it was that he had in mind.
Dominic spun Adele around, and every time his hands landed on her waist, I wished I could dig his eyes out and cut his hands for placing them on what was my possession. Adele was mine and mine alone, and no one was going to come close to her.
I wasn't going to let him try one of those stupid tricks he does with the others to get her from me. He could try all he wanted, but I wasn't going to allow such.
" Oh, you don't have to bother about such." Astrid explained it had me taking a good look at her because what exactly was the length she would be willing to go for him? Would she have been the one who handed him the invite even when she knew that I wasn't going to like the idea of him being here?
Of him being with Adele? I shook my head, not wanting this to spiral out.
" It's our song." She exclaimed excitedly, and I knew I had to dance with her. There was no way I could refuse her. It would be an answer to not just her but the pack as well.
She was the future Luna and had to be seen and accorded respect.
" Well, well, can you recall when we made this our song? How long it took you before getting me to date you?"
" After screaming that I wouldn't want to date anyone else aside from you?" I waited for an answer when she blushed.
" Well, you haven't dated anyone else, so you have kept to your promise."
" Are you still pissed about the s*x?"
" That's not it. I am pissed about plenty of things. It is numerous, and I can't even begin to keep count right now, but I am also not saying a thing because soon enough Adele will be gone. Once she gives birth to her child, she will go away, leaving us be."
" Yes," I gave a quick answer, not wanting to show how much I didn't want that anymore.
Adele was good in her own way, and Astrid in her own way.
I should have expected that there would be conflict even if Astrid had obliged to it at the beginning, but I had thought that would come later on and not now. It happened so quickly that I didn't know what to do anymore.
" If it wasn't so vital to continue the lineage, Loic, we wouldn't have gotten Adele, but I know how important it is to you, and I will never deny you the joy of being a father. I don't want to ever see you wishing that things hadn't gone a certain way that you want."
" And that's why I am glad I have you." I hated that my eyes kept switching back to Dominic and Adele, and they still seemed to be having the best time of their lives while I was left here watching pitifully at them.
" I know, Loic, I know." The song ended, which had me letting out a breath because it was what I wanted. Now. Dominic won't be with Adele anymore, and she could stand without being intertwined with him. It almost had me throwing a punch in the air.
"Well, well, that one is a diamond." Dominic said to me, coming to stand beside me.
This was the point where I should have warned him to stay away from Adele if I didn't have Astrid, but all it would do was make Astrid question my intention even more, and I couldn't have her doing that right now.
" I thought you were grown past putting your eyes on whatever I possessed."
" I was done." Dominic tsked. "Until she came along. I don't know how to place it, but I can tell she is rare. I offered her a tour of Catan Pack, and she accepted. You should let her come around meet me. Don't keep her locked up in here. She will get tired."
" I am not." I explained to him when I noticed she was nowhere to be found. She was neither here nor there. That gown that stood out had been gone for a while.
" Where is Adele?" I questioned him when he sneered.
" You don't think I will steal her or whisk her away, do you? She is there. I left her after our dance."
" But she isn't there. Where is she?" I demanded when Astrid held my hands.
" You should stop, you are garnering attention."
" Arghhhh," a maid screamed. "There is a body, a body on the lake, and...it... "
" Speak," I demanded. My heart sank as fast as her legs did when she dropped to the ground.
" My lady, my lady has drowned."
