Helen glanced at the dilapidated house in front of her. The irony that a total stranger who had forced her to commit crimes against the Commonwealth had indirectly led to the reunion of her daughter was not lost on her. It was this very house that prompted the memories of a happy childhood in the first place. ‘What a dump,’ Fiona commented, wrinkling up her nose in disgust. ‘I hope it doesn’t smell as bad as it looks.’ Helen gave a small chuckle. ‘It’s alright,’ she told her daughter. ‘You’re spared the gas mask. Come on. The sooner we get this over and done with, the better.’ With that, they both alighted from the car they had been encased in and made their way towards the rusty front gate.
