the introduction
Once upon a time, the world was... different. Not all humans, but some, were born with powers. They were called Guardians. Their powers helped them forge weapons that could shift the balance of war, protect cities, and save lives. But every gift comes with a curse. To use their power, Guardians had to bleed. So they hid. They vanished into the crowd, erasing themselves from history books. But the world—especially those in power—never forgot. The government sent undercover agents to sniff them out, to use them as tools. And remember, kids: next time someone says “The government would never do that”... oh, yes they would. This story is about twins—a boy and a girl. The girl was named Soleil, her name meaning sun, fitting her warm and gentle soul. Her twin brother? Mysterious. Quiet. A walking enigma. Their beauty was otherworldly—pitch-black hair laced with silvery strands, like the night sky itself. Eyes like twin suns, glowing gold. And when they smiled… it was like the world stopped hurting for a second. They were orphans. Their parents died in a car crash when they were five. At least, that’s the official story. No one knew their parents were Guardians. And no one could know the twins were, too. Soleil hated it. She hated the feeling in her veins when her power stirred. She hated the blood. She hated the fear. Her brother, though... he didn’t fear it. He listened to it. He said the power whispered sometimes. Said it felt like something ancient crawling under his skin, like memories that weren’t his. He never told Soleil what it said. Not really. Only that “it doesn’t want to stay hidden forever.” They lived in a foster home now. The kind where no one really cares unless the rent's late or the house burns down. Soleil worked after school at a dusty little bookstore, while her brother—let’s call him Noctis (Latin for night)—preferred the alleyways, the secrets, the whispers in the dark. But everything changed the day Soleil cut her finger on a broken piece of glass. And it glowed. Bright. Blinding. Gold. Right there in the bookstore, in front of a stranger. A stranger who didn’t flinch. A stranger who whispered, “Found you.”
