Episode 4 – The Man Who Had Everything But Felt Nothing

684 Words
After the cars left the old street, Daniel sat quietly in the back seat. Outside the window, the city was moving fast, but inside the car everything felt slow. His assistant spoke carefully. “Sir… should we go to the hotel or the office?” Daniel didn’t answer immediately. He kept looking outside. Finally, he said, “Hotel.” “Yes sir.” The car drove to the biggest hotel in the city. Workers rushed to open the door when they saw him. “Welcome, Mr. Daniel.” He walked inside like a king, but his face had no smile. Inside his luxury room, everything was perfect. Big bed. Beautiful lights. Soft carpet. City view from the balcony. Two years ago he slept in a broken room. Now he could buy the whole building. But something felt strange. He walked to the balcony and looked down at the street. People were walking, laughing, talking. Normal life. His assistant came behind him. “Sir… the reporters are asking for interview.” Daniel shook his head. “No.” “Board members want meeting.” “No.” “Your investors—” “No.” The assistant stayed quiet. After a moment he asked, “Sir… are you not happy?” Daniel smiled slowly. “I have money… power… company… respect…” He paused. “But I don’t have peace.” The assistant didn’t speak. Daniel continued, “When I was poor, I wanted success. Now I have success… and I feel empty.” Silence filled the room. That night, Daniel couldn’t sleep. He decided to go outside alone. No guards. No cars. Just walking. He wore simple clothes and left the hotel quietly. The street was calm. He walked without direction. After some time, he stopped near a small food shop. The place looked old but clean. A young woman was there, arranging food on the table. She didn’t notice him at first. Daniel sat down. “One tea.” She looked up. “Okay.” She brought the tea and put it in front of him. She didn’t look surprised. She didn’t look impressed. She didn’t even recognize him. She just said, “Be careful, it’s hot.” Daniel looked at her. Simple clothes. Kind face. Calm eyes. Not like the people he met before. He asked, “You don’t know me?” She shook her head. “No.” “You didn’t see the news?” “No… I don’t watch news much.” Daniel smiled slightly. “Good.” She sat down near the table, counting money. After a moment she said, “You look tired.” Daniel was surprised. “Do I?” “Yes. Not body tired… life tired.” He looked at her carefully. Nobody had spoken to him like that in a long time. He asked, “What is your name?” “Anna.” “And you?” Daniel paused for a moment. Then he said, “Daniel.” She smiled. “Nice to meet you, Daniel.” No fear. No respect because of money. No fake smile. Just normal. For the first time in a long time… Daniel felt calm. He finished the tea. “How much?” She told him the price. Very small money. He gave her more. She returned the extra. “You gave too much.” Daniel looked surprised. “You can keep it.” She shook her head. “No. I only take what is mine.” Daniel stared at her for a moment. Then he smiled. A real smile. “Good night, Anna.” “Good night.” As he walked away, he stopped and looked back. She was still arranging the table like nothing happened. He whispered to himself, “Maybe… not everyone failed the test.” Far away, his assistant was watching. He spoke into the phone. “Sir… I think he finally met someone real.” Daniel looked at the night sky. For the first time since he returned… He felt something different. Not power. Not pride. Not revenge. Hope. To be continued… Episode 5 🔥
