Chapter 3: Adrian (2)

The Old man was the father of Arias Scarlet and the previous lord of the Scarlet family, Ethan Scarlet. A smile blossomed on the Old man's face as he looked at the people on the table.

“Welcome darling.” The voice of a middle-aged lady rang out in the hall as she stepped up to welcome the old man. She was Ethan Scarlet's wife, mother to Arias Scarlet and previous lady of the Scarlet house.Do not be deceived by her young body,she was of the same age and generation with Ethan but just like Ethan her body appears to be like one in mid forties.

“Welcome father.” The voice of a lady who seemed to be in her late twenties rang out. She was Nathaniel Scarlet, wife to Arias and the present lady of the Scarlet family. Although she looked like she was in her mid or late twenties, she was actually a middle-aged lady, but you know, ladies and their desire to look young and beautiful and her level of cultivation made it so to keep an appearance of young lady.

“Welcome grandpa.” Three voices sounded at the same time as a boy who looked no more than 5 years old and another who looked 3 years old and a girl who was 1 year old, greeted the man.The three were Stains, Mark and Tina respectively and they were the children of Arias.

“Haha, nice everyone is here.” The Old man gave a cheerful laugh as he went towards the little girl and ruffled her ink-black hair which reached her waist.

“How have you been little Tina?” The Old man asked in a doting and tender time.

“Fine grandpa, I have been waiting for you, and now that I have seen you I feel happy.”

The little girl replied in a crisp voice.

“Welcome my lord.” A man seemingly the same age as Ethan stepped in and greeted the Old man.

“Smith, how have you been?” The Old man asked.

“I am fine my lord all thanks to your kindness.”

“Grandfather, who is this?” Tina's little voice attracted everyone's attention to the baby in the old man's hands

“Old man whose child is that?” The former lady of the house, Margaret Scarlet asked with an inquisitive look on her face.

“I picked the child up from the Northern region of the city, he was left in the cold winter probably to die or left for fate to decide his life.” Ethan answered as he looked at the child with pity in his eyes.

“Yaaa..yaaa!!” The cries of an infant sounded in the hall as the little guy woke up, maybe due to the noise in the room.

“Oh what a poor little guy.” The maternal side of Margaret was aroused by the baby's cry as she made her way towards the child in Ethan's arms and took him away.

“Stop crying little guy, grandma is here….hush…grandma loves you.” Margaret consoled and coaxed the baby.

In response to her action the little guy stopped crying and reached out his tiny fingers to touch Margaret's face. The baby giggled in a cute voice as he looked at Margaret's face. Margaret smiled at the actions of the baby

“He has nice pale-blue hairs, well rounded charming lips, a face seemingly carved out from the finest piece of jade and fascinating eyes.” Nathaniel stepped up as she examined the baby's face with praise and admiration.

“He will be a dashing young man when he grows up.” Arias joined the fun.

“I would like to adopt him,does he have a name?” Margaret turned and asked her husband Ethan.

“No he doesn’t but are you sure you want to adopt him?.” Ethan questioned with a raised brow. His only intention for bringing the baby home was to keep him safe and nurture him,when he reaches a certain age he would let him go, but it seems his wife has other intentions.

“Aren’t you too old for this, darling?” Ethan teased his wife as he smiled. Hearing him,the people in the room laughed too.

“Hmmm? It seems like you are also too old to sleep in the room,what do you say sweetheart?” Margaret retorted with a question of her own as she smiled beautifully at her husband.

‘This guy dared tease me before this kids,hmph, just you wait I will make you pay for it.’ Margaret spoke inwardly. Seeing his wife smile so beautifully,Ethan became scared,he knew more than anyone that nothing good comes out whenever she smiles beautifully at him in such a situation.

‘Ah!,who asked me to tease her.’ Ethan could only sigh at the misfortune that would soon befall him.

“I will adopt him as my grandchild,do you have any qualms about that?” Margaret asked her husband.

“Then what of the the Elders?”Arias spoke up, although he was the lord of the house and had the highest power,the elders were also a part of it and had part in decision making.

“Well just deal with them yourself,I don’t care how you do it, but one more thing,he is the last young lord of the Scarlet family.” Margaret spoke in a calm but slightly domineering tone. She was determined to keep the child.

“But mother—-“ Arias called out but was completely ignored by the woman who seemed to be in thought as regards the the name she will give to the child.

Arias turned to his wife for help but saw her also in deep thoughts too.‘Seriously? When did you guys become so thoughtful?’

‘Ah! At least father will help me persuade her or find a way out.’ Arias turned to the only one whom he thought could help him but as his eyes met his old man he saw the man looking up to the ceiling in the room as he pretended to be in deep thoughts.

Seeing him in that state almost made Arias curse out loud. ‘Tsk!! This shameless old man,completely unreliable.’

‘This evil brat,can’t you be merciful? Am already going to sleep outside the room today, do you want to double my punishment? Do you wanna kill your old man? Thank goodness I have already handed over the position of the lord to you, be a man and handle your problems,don’t drag me into this mess.’ Ethan thought as he continued to look at the ceiling while pretending to be in deep thoughts.

“Hmm….then I will name him Adrian.” Margaret said after thinking for a while. She flashed a beautiful smile at the baby as he called him by his new name,Adrian Scarlet.
