The Chains —
Judy had no idea how much time she spent in this “well” already but she learned a lot of things, much to the satisfaction of her curiosity.
“so it was your reflection Lady Mcrell and I saw in her garden because it was your last cry of help to remove these chains. Is that it if I summarise what you just explained.”
“ yes that is pretty much about it but not quite also, stop saying it was a cry of help, I did it for a good reason, I need help with something” Clay agreed mostly against his will.
The wolf had used more time than needed to explain the situation to the girl. “these chains have been holding me down for more than 10 years now and there has been other wolves before me, that I am sure of and there will be some after me logically... unless we do something about it” the giant animal had a hurt expression on his face once he was done.
“the chains right? Yeah let me help you with that” Judy suggested while approaching the giant chains holding him down.
“if it was that simple I would of done so a long time ago girl” but that did not stop Judy, in fact, she was more determined then ever.
“it is no use Judy, you can not free me, these are magical chains that drain my powers not just anybody can break them you have to use the key or you must be equally or more powerful than the one responsible for this” he tried to stop her when she was forcing the locks even though they were burning her. “but I have to try, is it not why you made me come here” Judy was now on the verge of crying, she who never cried was now going to, but it was not from the pain she felt, nor from what has happened to her until now no, she felt sad and enraged at the same time for the wolf, how could someone be this evil, she felt powerless. Her first ever friend was imprisoned and there was nothing she could do.
“calm down Judy, listen to me first. It is useless to try and save me now, I am reaching my limits as well, my life energy is being drained from me. Therefore I will most likely die soon even if I am freed I will not survive long. So please stop hurting yourself and hear my wish will you” Clay said hesitantly pleading. He had no more choices than to ask her, he knew it was dangerous but he also had faith she would make it and he was running out of time as well.
To listen to her new found friend, Judy reluctantly let go of the chains and went to sit in front of him on the floor, giving him her full attention.
“I need you to deliver a message for me, that is actually my cry for help” Clay jokingly said with a sad smile on his face but he soon noticed that the person he was trying to make laugh was not even smiling. He then decided it was wiser to continue his request. “so can you do that for me? Consider it a favour and I will owe you in the end. ” the wolf said “of course I will do it for you so tell me what it is you need me to do. And I am not letting you die! In fact, I will save you, and you will owe me nothing because I am gladly doing it for our friendship!” the redhead beamed with excitement all to the wolf’s pleasure.
“I told you that I came from the Full Moon Pack right? I will direct you to the pack’s whereabouts, once there, you will ask for my brother, Calev Willows and give him my message. Tell him about the approaching danger and what have been happening to our kind. Please let them know and tell them to prepare” when Clay had finished his speech, Judy was heart broken, was there really no way to save him? “tell me who did this to you” she pleaded him.
“to tell you the truth, I do not know, I just remember waking up in here and chained like this one day. Every time I would try to remember who abducted me, I would feel like my head about to explode and part of my memory would disappear along with it, so I just let it go... I know that person will be looking for other wolves to replace me, if they are not already doing so. That is why I will try my hardest to hold on to life until you deliver the message for me and the pack decide what to do about this situation. Of course I will understand if you change your mind and refuse, it will be dangerous after all” Clay stated ready for a rejection but he was up for a surprise when Judy stood up from her position and told him that she would never let him die and that she would be honoured to do it for him after all he was her first ever friend and that all that was just a reminder of what she had said earlier “I never go back on my word either”. The joy and relief that went through him that moment, no one could describe it, not even him. Clay then explained to Judy how to find her way to his pack.
Up on the surface, right after Judy’s fall into the well, with Lady Mcrell who was not up until early next morning so she could not have seen who it was that pushed Judy things were getting a little complicated. Fortunately, those 3 were not the only ones around to know what had happened, as a matter of fact, there was one other witness who knew because they had seen it all. From when the ginger hair came to visit the old lady, to her going to the garden while the owner of the house was asleep and finally to the girl’s dramatic push.
Upon her awakening, Lady Mcrell was a little dizzy but she quickly sobered up when she noticed the girl she had received yesterday’s bag still lying in her couch at the exact same spot that she had left it. “Judy? Judy where are you?” Mcrell was starting to loose her cool; there was no red hair moving around. Perplexed, she went outside, barefoot and in her yesterday’s clothes, she was becoming more and more careless these days, but it mattered not at this moment, she had to find the girl.
“first a thief comes without stealing anything, then it’s a wolf and now a girl disappeared and all that in my house! What is going on with this town, or is my house haunted? Honey is that you?” “you are trying to send me a signal?” the lady thought while pacing back and forth in front of her house. “ I have to go to church!” she concluded dashing in her house to get ready.
Mcrell did not even eat after getting prepared to go out, she could not eat with all the anxiety rising in her, but it would all end soon because she was on her way to see Father George, he would know what to do. With all her hopes lying on the pastor, Mcrell got off the bus and started her walk to the big religious infrastructure now a couple of meters away from her.
Once the old lady set foot on the last step leading to the church entrance she let out a sign she did not know she was holding, she was finally here. But one thing though, she still did not know why she was so worried about this girl. Someone she did not even know correctly but she knew she was different from all the people in this town and for that maybe she wanted to find her.
She spotted the pastor lighting some candles in the far end of the edifice near the altar, avoiding the numerous benches Mcrell made a straight line to her target.
“ForgivemeFatherforIhavesinned” the old lady blurted out as if it was burning her tongue. The Father stopped was he was doing and slowly turned toward her, giving her his full attention “Good morning Lady Mcrell! Fancy seeing you here!” “when was the last time you came?”
As a matter of fact, Mcrell was not a fan of the church, and an even lesser fan of Father George that is why when she saw him, she did not know what to say but here she was, in front of him all sweating from her nervousness. “yes! Yes! Morning! Come I don’t have time for that! We have to hurry!” she was already dragging Father George to a bench but the Father, regardless of his age and their differences, followed her obediently curious about what had brought her to him.
“normally we are supposed to be in the confessional over there” Father George had said point in the direction of the said object. “normally, but nothing is normal anymore! We don’t have time for that, Judy is missing!”Mcrell was now agitated
“first things first, take your time and breathe, now explain what happened by starting with who is Judy”
The old lady could not believe her ears! She had no time to sit down and breathe like this! And the way he was talking so slowly taking his time was making her angry.
Pinching the space in between her eyes, she sigh of frustration and Resentment she began telling what happened for the second time in less than 24 hours.
At the end of her story Mcrell was calmer than when she came bursting into the building 30 minutes ago but it did not stop Father George from asking the most evident thing ever which still left her out of words “I understand very well your frustration but have you checked her house before assuming she was missing? “
Back in the supposed well, Judy and Clay were still discussing about how to get to the Full Moon Pack territory without any danger... Especially those a human could not withstand. But all of them were oblivious of the real danger lurking around.
“this is all good, but how do I actually get out of here Clay? “ Judy ended up asking the question that was bugging her all this time.
