The Shift of a Love-Repellent: From Captivity to Liberation, His Journey of Struggle and Awakening in the Quest for True Love
Prologue
In the spacious mahjong room, aside from the crisp sound of mahjong tiles clacking together, the only other noise was the sound of heavy breathing mixed with the fog of cigarette smoke. Afat busied himself coming and going, delivering drinks and snacks to the mahjong room. A small bucket hung over the mahjong table, and under the light, one could vaguely make out that it was stuffed with cash.
Four men were playing mahjong, their expressions serious and focused, as if they were discussing a business deal involving astronomical figures. Suddenly, a mobile phone rang.
Nanfeng Wei, who was squinting at his tiles, furrowed his brow and, frustrated by his hand, cursed under his breath, "Damn!"
"Ahfat!" Guan Boxuan, with his back to the door, turned to smile.
Compared to the other three players, he appeared calm and composed, like a person who could remain unflappable in the face of change. Of course, as long as the matter didn't involve his younger brother, he was not only calm but also as docile as a lamb.
"Yes," Ahfat placed a cup of tea next to him on a small round table and quickly picked up the phone.
After listening for a moment, he walked over to Guan Boxuan's left, looking at the man dressed in an expensive, tailor-made suit, exuding the appearance of an upscale intellectual.
"Akai, your younger brother..."
Akai raised his eyebrows, his face darkening with displeasure as he took the phone, his expression becoming more gloomy with each word. Finally, he couldn't help but explode.
"Why did you call to bother me with such a trivial matter? Useless! From today on, your allowance is reduced to a hundred thousand. Let's see if you can still sign up for irresponsible charging!" he roared.
After finishing, Akai threw the phone.
Ahfat caught it just in time and, with quick thinking, set the phone to vibrate so the subsequent calls from Akai's younger brother were effectively ignored.
"Your brother signed up for expenses again?"
"He and the second brother went to a tavern yesterday and ran up a bill of five hundred thousand in one night. f**k, if they had the ability to earn that much and bring it back to the company, I'd light incense and offer sacrifices. I'd even throw a grand feast to express my gratitude," Akai played a three of a kind, then took out a handkerchief, removed his gold-framed glasses, and wiped them. Suddenly, he thought of something. "Hey, Ayue."
"Hm?" Lan Haoyue looked at the sea of tiles and then at his hand, answering absentmindedly.
"When is your brother going to start working on the landscaping at my new community? The residents have moved in, and some are already complaining. Why is the garden completely bare?" Akai arranged his tiles, tapping the table.
"He hasn't started yet? I already talked to him about it!" Lan Haoyue's hand paused as he was about to play a tile, slightly surprised.
"Talking to those idiots is a waste of breath"
"It's no use talking to the younger ones," Akai empathized. "Look at me; no matter how nicely I talk to them, my brothers still spend money recklessly! They only realize the family isn't a bank when they're completely broke."
"Exactly, you need to hit them hard on the head to see if it makes them smarter," Guan Boxuan added.
"Strange, I specifically instructed my employees over there! Ahfat," Lan Haoyue shook his head and motioned to Ahfat.
Ahfat respectfully approached and handed him his phone.
Lan Haoyue played tiles while making a phone call.
Guan Boxuan played a white tile.
"Eaten," Lan Haoyue called out quickly, taking the white tile, playing a tile of ten thousand, and then said into the phone, "Haocheng, didn't you start the landscaping work at Wansin Community? Yes! The boss has... what?" His momentum to scold faded, "So that's how it is... having a flower art exhibition is understandable..."
The opponent at the table pounded the table, blowing his mustache and glaring as if Lan Haoyue had committed some heinous sin.
Lan Haoyue immediately roared into the phone, "I don't care what your excuses are! Get to Wansin Community right now and start the landscaping work. My friend only agreed to hand this project to you because me, and if you can't handle it, don't even think about opening that little flower shop. Just wait to face the consequences!"
The other three close friends and fellow players all showed satisfied and approving expressions, giving him a thumbs up, praising him for setting a good example as an older brother in front of his younger brother.
The person at the other end of the phone line murmured a few words.
Lan Haoyue furrowed his brow slightly, "I told you to go, just go!"
The person responded with a few more comments.
Lan Haoyue's brows knit together even tighter, "Does that little white pigeon of yours conflict with my asking you to do the landscaping job? No, it doesn't! Since there's no conflict, where do you get all these excuses? Just go!"
After finishing the call, he hung up with a sense of grandeur, only to meet the indifferent looks of his friends, making him feel awkward all of a sudden.
"Aiye, Ayue, you still't know how to scold people properly. If I hadn't retired, I really should have taken you to train my group of younger guys," Guan Boxuan said with a grin, deliberately adding salt to the wound. "Scolding is about being fast, cruel, and precise. The way you talk, long-winded and without a point, would put anyone to sleep."
"You're not any better when it comes to your younger brother; you're just as explosive. We're on the same level." Lan Haoyue retorted with a laugh.
"Talking about your brother's flower art exhibition, isn't your brother a guy? Why does he love flowers so much?"
"Not only does he deal with flowers, but he also raises pigeons!"
"You should raise racing pigeons, not white doves! Less of that love and peace stuff."
"Could it be that your brother's flower art exhibition is..." Guan Boxuan couldn't help but joke with a hint, giving a sly smile, "Then he can find any kind of flower, quite the expert!"
Lan Haoyue played a tile in exasperation, "To put it bluntly, my brother is a flower farmer, he might not even have seen what a woman looks like. I even suspected he was a homosexual before! I was so worried about finding a wife for my brother, but ever since he met that little white pigeon..."
"Wait, is the little white pigeon a person?"
"Otherwise, are they really pigeons?
Your brother isn't bad either! Not only flowers, but he's also into pigeons. Find a chance to have him over, let's exchange some ideas," Guan Baxuan jokes without discrimination.
"Alright, I'll have him catch a few rabbits for you," Lan Haoyue plays a card, silencing Guan Baxuan's mouth.
"Don't take it the wrong way, but having to worry about my brothers even while playing cards, I've never seen them learn a thing. Does being an older brother get in anyone's way just by being born earlier? Really!"
The man at the end is becoming more and more annoyed as he talks.
"No way, the earlier you're born, the sooner you have bad luck... I've won! Triple scoop!" A-kai laughs heartily three times, and the bad mood caused by his two brothers is completely soothed by winning the hand.
The other three retaliate with curses, but also resignedly pull out money.
"Whenever I mention my brothers, it's bad luck!" Lan Haoyue tosses a stack of bills onto the table in exasperation."
