The next day

Chapter 11 The next day I wake and wince with pain, my upper arm is cramping. I look down to find Carmel still fast asleep. My bicep snug inside the crook of her neck, her forehead resting on my chin and her legs curled up with her feet wedged under my calf. Now regretting how I chose to fall asleep last night, cradling Carmel in my arms, my right arm feels like it’s lost supply of its blood flow. Not wanting to disturb and wake her, I lay for a few minutes longer watching her as she sleeps. Taking note of how her face has changed since we were teens. Her skin is clear of any blemishes, she has soft ivory skin. My eyes trace the bow of her light brown eyebrows down the front of her nose, it looks from this angle like a tiny pear has been put on her face in the place of a nose. It’s got a little fading red circle where she’s been pushing her nose into my chin and it’s left a little pressure mark. She has more freckles on her nose now then she used to. Her eyes closed gently, the skin looks soft and silky like two velvety rose petals with black dove tails for eyelashes. Her lips are still the same, thin and dusty pink with a pretty little bow arch. Slightly open and I can just see her top teeth poking out and gently resting on her open bottom lip. Her hair is long now compared to when she was a teen,it’s splayed out over my arm and across the pillow. Some of it is under her and I can feel the ends tickling the side of my torso. It’s light blond but I know that’s not her natural colour, she is more of a dark or dirty blond haired girl. My arm in agony now, I try to gently slide it out from under Carmel. The slightest movement stirs her and she opens her eyes. She lifts her head slightly and I am able to slide my arm out all they way. She is looking at me now through those sleepy morning eyes, a contented smile on her face.  I smile back place a soft kiss on her forehead and sit up quickly to give my arm a shake. As I’m rubbing my upper arm trying to get the blood flowing again, Carmel looks with concern on her face, “oh my gosh, I’m so sorry, did I sleep on your arm all night?”  Trying to play it cool I get up and walk towards the bathroom, I throw her a, it’s fine, all good look. Once in the bathroom and out of sight I give my arm a few big circle motions as I try to work out the pins and needles.  As I put the shower on I hear a knock at the door. I grab a shirt and put in on before opening the door. It’s a young woman, scrawny and pale with a bright pink, pixie hair cut. She is wearing a hotel gold shirt and is holding three laundrette bags, two on hanger and a third with folded clothes. “Laundry for room 225?” “Yes, thank you”, I take the hangers from her and before I can offer her a tip she scoots off down the hall.  I hang the coats up in the wardrobe and place Carmel’s other items on the table by the TV.  Carmel, still in bed sleepily lifts her head to see what’s going on.  “Your clothes madam!” I say in an old English accent, followed by a little bow. “I’m going to grab a shower quick.” I head into the bathroom, this time leaving the door open for that all important airflow, besides there is no point in being shy now, we’ve seen all of each other last night and I definitely wouldn’t mind if Carmel decided to join me in the shower now. To my dismay I finished my shower on my own, when I got out and went to fetch my clothes out of the wardrobe I found Carmel sitting in the chair by the window with two cups of coffee. I pull my jeans on and grab my belt and go over and sit with her at the table.  “Is that mine?” I point to the cup in front of me.  “Mhmm” she nods her head and gives me a cute little tilted head and shy smile where just the corners of her mouth are curved upward.  I take a sip, it’s good. She is looking out the window now and I ask curiously, “what you looking at?” I turn and crane my neck slightly to see if I can see what she is looking at.  “There’s a couple outside on the patio having what looks like a bit of a row with each other.” “You nosey-parker”, I give her a cheeky grin and sip my coffee again.  “What’s the time?”, she asks. I don’t have my watch on, so I get up to look for it. It’s not on the bedside table, I turn to find it laying on the TV cabinet near the kettle. “It’s nearly ten-am.” Carmel jumps up, “oh my gosh, we are wasting the day away sitting here sipping coffee and spying on people.”  “I’ll go grab a quick shower and we can get going.” She drops a quick kiss on my lips and skips to the bathroom.  I swop chairs so I can look out the window, the couple is still going at it. I wonder what they are arguing about? I enjoy the show while I sip my coffee. Guess I’m the nosey-Parker now.
