Tessa The Great

I arrived at the airport in record time, with a few horns blaring in my ears here and there. I also had a few choice words thrown my way when I crossed in front of someone. I was late, what did these people not understand. Tessa would kill me if I didn’t get there on time. As soon as I stepped out of the car I could spot the raging bull that was my sister storming towards me. She was hard to miss in her hot pink track suit and a hideous scarf wrapped around her head. Not to mention the hot pink suitcase and carry-on bag that she was lugging behind her.  I did not want anybody to know that I was related to this hot mess. “What are you wearing?” I hissed at her as soon as she was close enough. “They’re comfortable. Don’t try to change the subject from you being ate to pick me up. I’ve been here forever waiting for you!” She wailed dramatically. Several heads were turning in our direction all because of my overdramatic sister. “Get in the car.” I slapped my forehead, turned on my heels while lugging her terrible colored suitcase with me. I threw her stuff in the trunk, and by threw I meant carefully placing her bags in the trunk with the death stare she was serving me for handling her luggage a little too roughly. “Where is my hug? How long have I not seen you?” This girl was hot one minute then cold the next. I could never keep up with her. She squealed loudly almost making me go deaf in one ear as she lunged at me squeezing the life out of me. I reciprocated a little less enthusiastic than she did, because while I missed my sister and love her to pieces, she was still a handful. We got in the car after I almost died out of mortification for my sister who just didn’t care that her outfit choice was literally killing fashion and that she was being way too loud and overdramatic. “So, how’s it been? Haven’t heard from you in a while.” She started. “Tess we literally spoke on the phone last night. We spilled all the details of our lives over the last two days and then some.” I deadpanned. “Oh hush. What about before that?” She sassed. “You mean the night we stayed up until 3 am obsessing over your new workmate who you could ‘drizzle chocolate over and lick’?” She went quiet for a second. “Okay, yeah you’re right.” She finally says. “But that doesn’t mean I’m still not interested to know what happened in your life over the last few hours.” Other than the fact that my hot neighbor finally spoke two words to me, and that I find him way too attractive, nothing new happened. “I don’t have any news to spill. Other than we need to go grocery shopping, nothing new.” I answered. “What have you been living off of?” she asks. “Ramen?” I answered sheepishly. “Are you serious?” she yells. “Don’t tell me you’re still hung up on that douche canoe.” She never did like my ex. From the first day she told me so, said that he looked way too douchey and that I should get rid of him before he becomes a problem in my life. Looks like she was right. I’m just happy that she’s not the type of person to say ‘I told you so’ and then rub it all in your face. Mother knows best and all that jazz. Or in this case, big sister knows best. I just didn’t think that someone could look douchey. I didn’t trust that it was enough of a reason to break up with him at the time. But I should’ve trusted my big sister since she would’ve gone through a couple relationships and some of them may have been douche canoes. “It’s not that. I just haven’t had the time to do any shopping.” I defended myself. “Right, like I’m going to believe that.” She rolled her eyes. She was really sassy today and very easy to tick off. Something is definitely wrong or maybe she’s just on her period. “You ok? You’re unusually snappy today.” I ask. “I’m fine.” She answered quickly and turned her head to look outside the window. “Tess.” I call softly. “I said I’m fine.” She said thickly. I knew my sister better than she knew herself. She was not fine, it was obvious in the way she sounded. She was about to cry. I knew that something was up when she said she was coming to visit. Tessa was never one for impulsive decisions and she always made it clear she was not happy with me moving out here on my own. She said that coming to visit me was a spur of the moment decision but Tessa was never one for spur of the moment decisions. I decided to drive past the grocery store and head straight home. Groceries could wait until I dropped her off and consoled her a bit. Yeah, we may starve for a little bit but that’s fine. “I thought you said you needed groceries.” She said as she realized we were passing the store. “I’ll do it later.” I said as we pulled into the parking lot of the complex. We silently got out the car pulling her still hideous luggage from the boot of the car and made our way to the elevator. If anything else in this complex was crap, at least we had a working elevator. No stairs for me. I must admit, this apartment is not as bad as I make it sound. It was a beautiful complex with proper parking, working elevator, front desk check in, spacious living areas. The only downside to the living area part was that the walls were thin, and my hot neighbor never lets me forget it. We got out on my floor and started making our way to my door when the door next to mine flew open and a girl with mascara running down here face utilizes the empty elevator. I see someone is up to their old tricks again. The door slams shut without anybody else making an appearance. The door slamming so loudly could only mean that he was pissed. Maybe the girl didn’t satisfy him as much as he wanted. “Does that happen often?” Tessa asks. “Everyday.” I answer as I push open my apartment door. “Welcome to my humble abode.” I say with a flourish of the hand to dramatize the effect since Tess loves drama so much. “Cute.” She says while plopping down on the sofa. “Great. Now spill.” I say plopping down beside her.
