Dave's POV
I see a man in the mirror. Dashing in a black suit looking confident and aggressive. His hairstyle is stylish making him stand out and youthful. His aura is enough to make everyone's head turn. But who is he?
I felt a tap on my shoulder and I looked around to see Alex.
"You look good, Sir! We have to go to the ballroom. Your dad and the guests have been waiting."
I forced myself to move as I stopped staring at myself. Leaving the mirror empty.
Candy's POV
I walked towards the restaurant to meet Sarah and Ryan. I see them seated together chatting. I stopped for awhile and took a deep breath. Thinking to myself. Am I ready to face a new ordeal in my life? I pray that my friends would give me the best advice and that I could make the best decision. I entered and I saw them both waved at me. Asking me to go to their direction. Sarah came to me and hugged me. Ryan kissed me on the cheek.
"Are you sure about this?" Sarah asked me sounding very concerned.
"Hey, don't be too nervous. This will be a good start for you." Ryan said sounding positive.
"It's not yet too late to back out. I'm really worried for you." Sarah said.
I hear my friends tell me the pros and cons of the situation. Truthfully, I have thought about all the points that they are saying. But then, these no longer matter to me. I don't see any other options at this moment. It's like a dead end. I feel that I have nothing to lose and anything is a gain.
"I will be signing the contract tomorrow. The client's lawyer will meet me to tell the details. This is a confidential deal and I will never find out who the client is." I said while I see Ryan look away. I know that he honestly knows the client but he signed a non-disclosure agreement and is bound not to tell me who she is.
"Don't worry, Ryan. I will not force you to tell me who she is." I told him as I touched his hand.
"Thank you, Sweet. You know why I am doing this. I want you to start anew. You don't deserve what happened and this is a chance for you." He said in all sincerity. I know that my friends love me genuinely and that they wish the best for me.
"Just keep in mind that I am just here for you, no matter what." Sarah said as she hugged me tightly.
Dave's POV
I entered a well-lit ballroom. All eyes are on me. I see The Castro Clan and people from their businesses, familiar faces from the Chamber of Commerce, our company's Board, they were all looking with judging eyes. I wonder what they are thinking. I see Tom sipping red wine looking pissed, thinking that this is a huge step towards my presidency and a big blow against him. He just does not realize that at this point I want to trade places with him and just be another "employee".
I forced a fake smile and I see some ladies smiling back at me hoping that it is them that I will be engaged with. Then I see a pleasant looking lady waiting for me. She was wearing a light pink cocktail dress with an off-shoulder that shows her silky complexion. She looks like an angel with caring eyes and warm smile. I smiled back at her. She was waiting for me as she sits at the presidential table in the middle of the ballroom.
"Sir, here is the engagement ring." Alex stood in front of me. Handing me the box with the ring.
I barely spoke to him and looked back at the lady who caught my eye. To my dismay, It was Lisa. Then I rewind my thoughts and realized that the beautiful lady in my mind was Candy. I shook my head to wake myself from the illusion that I am in.
"Dave!" I felt a tight hug. It was my grandma. I felt a sense of relieve when I saw her. She walked with me as we headed to the presidential table...as if I was headed to prison where I will serve a life sentence. Then I heard the host called my name and Lisa and we both went towards the stage. Then that was it. I don't want to remember anything from that night.
Flashes of light from cameras, interviews and lots of publicity stunts. Everything was staged. Fake smiles, fake kisses, fake applause. Is this the world that I live in? Is this what I truly want?
