Dave's POV
Two weeks in Moscow passed by really quickly. I've been busy focusing on the operations of the company's expansion in this region. I spent 12 hours at the headquarters monitoring the ins and outs, trying to build the routine for everyone.
My staff are impressive. They never complain about how tedious the workload is. I've never felt this fulfilment at work in my life. I'm glad to finally have my own team, a group of people who shows trust in me. I see a different side of myself as well. I didn't realize that I have leadership and is capable of making people believe in my directives.
I've had various meetings with the local chocolate industry enthusiasts in order for me to penetrate the market. We hired our internal Russian translator because it's hard to learn their language.
"Guys, it's 6:00 pm. I want you to take a rest and go back to your hotel now." I told my team. I see how devoted they are in this project and they deserve a break.
"John, here is the company credit card. You may all have a night out and enjoy the night-life. Tomorrow is a Saturday so you guys might as well take some sightseeing."
"Yooo hooo! Yeah!!!" The team cheered and clapped in glee.
They all went out of the room leaving me all by myself. The temperature dropped to 0 degrees and I managed to make myself a cup of brewed coffee. My grandma and Alex will be arriving on Sunday. it took them awhile because Alex had to do a lot of errands for my dad. I'm worried about how grandma could cope up with this kind of temperature. But the problem is that she kept looking for me.
I took out my phone to contact the caregiver. She is a Mexican lady who is staying in Moscow for sometime.
"Good evening, Karisa. Yes, you have to be at the address I sent you by 10 in the morning of Sunday. I will be expecting you. Thank you."
I ended the call and sent her the address. I decided to find a smaller hotel because it is expensive at the Four Seasons. I want to cut on my personal expenses to at least allocate more budget to the team.
I decided to take a walk outside. It is the first time for me to see the beauty of Moscow. The sight is breath-taking because of its classic architecture. It stands out. The Red square is vast and I can feel the intense history that unfolded here. I stood there in amazement.
The evening wind brought me to my senses. I buttoned my coat and headed back to my hotel. Suddenly, my phone rung. It was Alex.
"Sir, the investigator that we hired just called me. He said that he found something suspicious about Lisa. It seemed like she has not cut ties with the drug syndicate or they must have refused to let her go."
"What do you mean?"
"She's been seen several times having meetings with them and she looks distressed. As of this point, it is not good for you to come back here. You might get associated with her deals. It's best for you to stay there for sometime until we figure out what she is really up to."
"I see. I don't think I have plans of going back for now. Make sure that all our visas will be extended. Okay?"
"We will see you on Sunday."
"And by the way...did you find out if Lisa is planning something else? Something personal about us?"
"None yet sir. All she does now are tied up to her dirty business. I think your safe there."
"That's good for now. Don't keep your guards down."
Candy's POV
I was awaken by the sound of chattering. I saw my attending physician and her assistant standing close to my hospital bed. She was asking the nurse about my vitals. They were speaking in Russian but I can understand the medical terms.
"Congratulations, Candy. The procedure is successful. You are now conceiving." She said in all positivity.
"We will conduct some more tests today and discharge you tomorrow. I just want to make sure that your condition is perfectly fine especially the baby."
"Oh, thank you!" I said feeling half happy and nervous. I guess it is why I am feeling sleepy these past days. So this is how it is to be pregnant.
The doctor and her staff went out with her. I stood up and looked outside. The view was bright and calming but my heart was beating fast. I don't know what to do from here. I touched my belly and tried to connect to the life inside. New guilt was formed. What would this child tell me? What kind of mother would give away her own flesh and blood. I could not stop the tears from rolling down my eyes.
What's in store for me now?
