The scent of tobacco and winter-pine filled the small space of the car, wrapping around me as Alexander calmly drew another cigarette from his jacket pocket. His sharp profile was illuminated by the occasional flicker of headlights outside the rain-speckled windows.
I couldn’t suppress a soft, internal whimper when he turned his electric blue eyes on me again.
