(Charlotte's POV)
Weakly, I stumbled toward my front door, the rain soaking me to the bone. My wolf, Cora, whimpered softly in my head, sharing my anguish. The ache of rejection twisted deep inside both of us. Alexander’s cold words, combined with Gabriel’s earlier venom, churned up wounds that nothing could heal.
My fingers fumbled with the key, my hands trembling too hard to make it work. On the fifth try, the key finally slid into place, and I threw the door open as if escaping the storm outside would calm the one raging inside me.
