Katherine
"What? You're married now, Katherine?" My assistant s***h friend Derek exclaimed in surprise.
Derek and I were at my mom's house because she invited him to have lunch with us. My mom is leaving for another country again tomorrow so she wanted to have lunch with us.
Mom wanted to travel around the world so she handed over the position of CEO of Handford Group to me. But I don't show up my face at the company. I always worked behind my people. Only my trusted staff know that I am the CEO of Handford Group. But all the employees of the company already know that Katherine Handford, the only daughter of Mrs. Gilda Handford, was the CEO of Handford Group for two years.
Derek was my friend and classmate in college before I became a secret agent. Of all my friends and acquaintances, only he knows about my secret. Even my Mom doesn’t know that I am a secret agent.
I didn’t hide it on purpose from my Mom. I just don’t want her to worry about my safety. And she would definitely force me to resign if she found out that I’m a special agent. Because she knew that being a secret special agent was a very dangerous job.
My mom was the kind-hearted person who helped my real Mom and me after my Dad chased us out of the Harret’s house. My adopted Mom was the one who brought my real mother to the hospital. After my real mom died, my adopted Mom took me in and treated me as her own daughter.
I was very grateful to her because if it weren't for her kindness, I think I would be nothing right now. Maybe I would be living on the streets and picking up trash just to have something to eat.
"Is what Derek said true, Katherine? You're already married?" my mom exclaimed in disbelief. She must have heard Derek's question to me.
"Uhm, yes, Mom," I answered my mother awkwardly.
Mommy suddenly came close to me and sat down beside me. "How did you end up married when you never introduced a boyfriend to me? I wanted to set you up with Derek but you didn't like him. Where did you meet that man? What does he do for a living? Maybe he's just after your money," she asked me anxiously.
I raised both my hands in front of Mom because it seemed like she had no intention of stopping her questions.
"It was a flash marriage, Mom. He worked as a car mechanic. But I'm sure he isn't after my money because he doesn't know that I'm rich. He thinks I'm just an ordinary person who takes on all sorts of jobs to earn money," I explained at length to my mom before she could start thinking badly about Axel.
"What do you mean by flash marriage?" Derek asked with a frown. He's the one Mom wants me to marry. But we really only see each other as friends and he already has a fiancée.
"I can't explain the whole situation and it was a long story. But to make a long story short, we met by accident and decided to get married. But you don't have anything to worry about because I'm sure he's not after my money," I explained again. I emphasized that Axel is not after my money. I don't want his image to be ruined in front of my mom and my friend.
"Do you have a one-night stand with him?" Mom asked. My mom is open-minded. It's okay with her if I have a one-night stand as long as I don't get pregnant. She's also not snobbish. Whatever job the man I like has, it's fine with her as long as I am happy.
"Of course not, Mom!" I answered in surprise. "Just don't worry about me. When you come back from your trip abroad, I'll introduce you to him. I'm sure you will like him. He is very handsome."
"I think I should meet him before I leave the country," Mommy suggested.
I held Mommy's arm and leaned on her shoulder. "This is not the right time for you to meet him, Mom. Currently, we are at the stage of getting to know each other."
"Fine. As long as that man doesn't hurt you. If I hear that he hurts you, I won't hesitate to have him imprisoned," my mom said firmly.
"Alright, Mom," I answered her with a smile. I was really lucky to have her as my adopted mother. She was a very kind and understanding mother to me.
"I HAVE new work for you, Agent Blue." My superior handed me an envelope.
"Who is he?" I asked after seeing the picture of a man inside the envelope. He looked to be in his mid-thirties but appeared older because of his beard and mustache.
"That man was Miguel Kroton. He was a playboy and a sadistic son of Congressman Kroton. He has victimized many women. All of them died after being brought to his house. And all the women he killed experienced extreme torture at his hands," my superior explained about the identity of my new target.
"Why haven't the police arrested him yet? He deserves to be executed." I clenched my fists tightly. I hate men who are cruel to women.
"There is no strong evidence against him. He always gets away, thanks to his father's help."
"So what do you want me to do, Sir? What will my role be to catch him?"
"You need to get his attention. Seduce him. And once you have his attention, he will surely take you to the place where he tortures the women who become his victims. Once you're inside, notify us quickly and we will come to arrest him. This time, he won't escape because the evidence against him will be solid," my superior explained about my role in my new job.
"No problem, Sir. I will do my best to get his attention and bring him to justice," I said bravely.
"You need to be careful, Agent Blue. That man was a complete lunatic. He might drug you or use any means so you couldn't fight him. This is a very dangerous mission," he reminded me with a hint of concern.
I smiled slightly at my superior before speaking. "Don't you trust me, Sir? Maybe you've forgotten that I have a secret weapon."
The secret weapon I was referring to was my needles. I was an expert in using needles as my weapon. My needles contain different drug effects. Sleeping effects, numbing, and even ones that can kill a person immediately.
Before I started training, I was asked to choose a weapon to focus on. Since it’s easier to carry and hide a needle on the body, that’s what I chose. Also, I don’t want to always carry a gun. Although I know how to use a gun and other weapons, I don’t want to use them to kill people. I might be the only law enforcer who doesn’t want to hold a gun.
“It’s nice to hear that you’re confident, Agent Blue. I just want to remind you to be more careful,” my superior said and gave me a very serious expression. “Go now and start your new mission, Agent Blue!”
