Chapter 11

1144 Words
Katherine I don’t know whether I should go back to the bathroom or stay in front of Axel, with only a towel wrapped around my body that reaches halfway down my thighs. He was staring at me intently but I couldn’t read what he was thinking. “You’re home already.” I was the first to speak between the two of us. I casually walked over to the closet and looked for something to wear. I pretended that I was not affected by his presence. Why did he have to arrive just when I came out of the bathroom? “Did you go to the bar earlier?” Axel asked. His voice was so close to me so I turned around. I almost kissed him because he was already standing so close behind me. "No. Why?" I turned my back on Axel and continued searching for clothes to wear. But I couldn't find any clothes even though I had a lot of them. I just couldn't concentrate because Axel was so close to me. "Can't find your clothes? Let me help you choose," he whispered behind my ear. I flinched when I felt his warm breath in my ear. I let him look for the clothes I would wear. While he was looking for my clothes, he still didn't leave my back. I couldn't help but close my eyes whenever his skin touched mine. I fanned my face with one hand. Suddenly, it became hot inside my room. I also felt that my room was too small for the two of us. I suddenly felt stuffy. "I’ll just look for my own clothes," I told Axel so he would leave behind me. Thankfully, he moved away and sat again at the edge of my bed. I secretly took a deep sigh before continuing to look for my clothes. When I finally chose what to wear, I hurried back into the bathroom to change. When I came out, Axel was still in my room waiting for me. "Are you sure you didn’t go to the bar earlier? My coworker and I came from the bar and I thought I saw you talking to a man." It seemed Axel didn’t completely believe that I hadn’t gone to the bar. "Don’t misunderstand why I’m asking you, Katherine. I just want you to stay away from that kind of place. That place is dangerous, especially for women." "Don't worry because I don't go to those kinds of places," I answered him. He was just concerned about me. "It's good that you know that." I didn't know if he still had something to say or not but he still hadn't left my room. Didn't he notice that I was feeling awkward around him? Why did he have to see me in that state? Now I'm embarrassed to face and talk to him for a long time. "Uhm, do you still have something to say, Axel?" I couldn't help but ask him. "Nothing." Axel took a deep sigh before standing up and leaving my room. I breathed a sigh of relief when he was gone. I immediately locked the door and then let out a breath. I placed my palm on my chest. My heartbeat was pounding loudly. It felt like I had just run fast. The last time my heart beat this quickly was when the enemy almost discovered that I was a secret agent. Why is my heart reacting this way to Axel? Could it be that I’m starting to like him? I shook my head firmly to get rid of the idea that had entered my mind. Axel and I have only known each other for two weeks. I’m not the type of woman who immediately likes a man just because he’s handsome. I let out a deep sigh again. If ever I do have feelings for Axel, I should stop them now because we’ll part ways after six months. My thoughts were interrupted when my cell phone suddenly rang. I immediately picked it up because it might be my superior calling me. I was right. It was indeed my superior calling. "Hello, Agent Blue. What happened to your mission? Any progress on it?" my superior immediately asked when I answered the call. "I already met him, Sir. And don't worry. I think I succeeded in getting his attention. He already invited me to go with him to his house," I reported to him. "Why didn't you go with him? That was the opportunity we've been waiting for to locate his private room where he tortures his victims before killing them." "I'm sorry, Sir. Something came up so I couldn't go with Miguel to his house right away," I apologized to him. "Don't worry because tomorrow night we will meet again at the bar. I promised him that I would go with him this time." "Good! When you are about to leave the bar, immediately notify us so we can prepare and back you up." "Yes, Sir!" I quickly replied. After my superior reminded me to be careful, he hung up the cell phone. I was about to put my cell phone on the bed when suddenly a notification popped up that I had received a message and it was in the spam folder. I was curious about who sent me a message so I checked my spam. One of my eyebrows raised when I saw that it was my stepsister Lucy who messaged me. She probably searched for my name on social media and upon finding it, she immediately sent me a message. I read Lucy’s message to me. She said my father wanted me to attend my grandmother’s death anniversary and that I should bring my husband. I had no intention of attending, but my grandmother was kind to my mom and me when she was still alive, so I decided to attend. However, I didn’t reply to Lucy’s message to tell her that I would be going to my grandmother’s death anniversary. As for Axel, I’m not sure if he’d want to come with me if I asked him. I left my room and went to look for Axel. He wasn't in his room so I went to the study room. He was indeed there, facing his laptop. His face was serious and he was so engrossed in what he was doing that he didn't notice me enter the study room. I stared at Axel. No matter what angle I looked at him from, he really didn’t look like a car mechanic. He looked more like an executive of a big company. But I don’t think he would lie to me. There’s no reason for him to hide his true identity from me. He’s not like me, a secret agent who needs to hide my real identity to protect the people close to me.
