Chapter 23

1303 Words
Axel I drink the beer straight from the bottle. I'm at a bar with my friend Dave right now. After Katherine left my room, I immediately called him and invited him to go to a bar for a drink. I was upset with myself. I didn't mean to say those words to Katherine. I was just teasing her. I didn't expect her to take what I said so badly. While I was drinking beer, I saw Katherine arrive at the bar with a man. I couldn't understand why I suddenly felt bad. We were just married in name only. She has the right to date any man she likes. I felt even worse when I saw the man Katherine was with touch her chin. I couldn't take it anymore so I quickly stood up from my chair and approached them and told him to let go of my wife. "Who are you?" the man with my wife asked me with a sharp look. He seemed annoyed that his intimacy with Katherine was cut short. My wife was drunk. I bet she doesn't even know that the man with her was taking advantage of her. I grabbed Katherine's arm and pulled her closer to me. "I am her husband. How about you? Do you know that the woman you were taking advantage of was already married?" "So, you are Kath's husband? My name is Derek. Her best friend," he introduced himself to me. He didn't seem embarrassed when he found out that I was his friend's husband. I wanted to punch Derek for the way he called Katherine. Calling my wife by her nickname felt too intimate to me. And I don't like it. "Next time, I don't want you to take my wife to a bar to drink alcohol. It doesn't look good for the two of you to be together inside a bar," I said bluntly to him. I wanted to convey to him that they couldn't be together when it was just the two of them. "What's wrong with it? Kath and I were best friends for almost seven years. We are drinking buddies. And besides, this isn't the first time we've drunk at a bar with just the two of us. Sometimes we even drink at her house and sometimes at my house. That's how much she trusts me," Derek replied arrogantly to me. My fist clenched and I was about to give him a punch. But Katherine suddenly grabbed my hand. "Hi, handsome. You look like my husband. Are you single?" Katherine asked me with a smile. Obviously, she didn't recognize me because she was drunk. "I am your husband. Not some other guy," I replied to her annoyingly. How much did she drink that she didn't recognize her own husband? "Let's go home." I carried her out of the bar. Katherine's friend was about to stop me, but Dave blocked him. I put Katherine in my car and went around to the driver's seat. Her eyes were closed as she leaned back in the seat. It was as if she didn't care what anyone would do to her. She's very careless. What if it were someone else with her now and not me? What if Derek took advantage of her several times while she was drunk? I pounded the steering wheel lightly with a heavy heart. Thinking that Derek took advantage of her every time she was drunk makes me want to get rid of him. I looked at Katherine's sleeping face again. She's very beautiful. I immediately noticed her beautiful face when she entered the church before and wearing a wedding dress. She's like an angel descending from heaven. Maybe that's why I chose her over Erica, whom I was supposed to marry that day. My hand rose and gently caressed Katherine's smooth cheek. I felt possessiveness when I remembered her friend touching her chin. If I hadn't approached them, Derek might have kissed Katherine. And my wife wouldn't know that because she was drunk. My gaze fell to her lips which were red and slightly parted. I couldn't help but swallow hard because I was tempted to kiss her. Katherine was sleeping. She wouldn't notice if I gave her a light kiss. I'm not taking advantage of her because I have the right to kiss her. She is my wife, after all. I slowly moved my face closer to her. My heart was beating so fast like I was running a five-kilometer marathon. Yes. I admit I am attracted to her. But I am a man. A normal person who knows how to appreciate women's beauty. And she was the only beautiful girl whom I took an interest in. Our lips were only a hair's breadth apart when she suddenly opened her eyes. "What are you doing, Axel?" she asked me. She didn't seem to be in her right mind yet. "I'm just going to put the seatbelt on you. You can't not wear a seatbelt because the authorities might catch us," I quickly explained to her. I hurriedly pulled the seatbelt to her side and fastened it to her body before I straightened up in my seat. I took a deep sigh because I felt nervous. I didn't want Katherine to think that I was a rude and untrustworthy man. I just couldn't control myself earlier. Good thing she woke up so I was prevented from committing a sin against her. Katherine went back to sleep so I quickly started the engine of my car and left the place to go home. She was still asleep when we arrived in front of our house. I didn't wake her up and just carried her into the house. I carefully laid her on the bed and took off her shoes. I was about to leave her room when I heard her moan softly. Instead of leaving, I approached her and brought my ear close to her mouth. It was as if she was saying something. But I couldn't understand it. Maybe she was asking me for water. My eyes widened and I clenched my fist tightly when I felt her slightly bite my ear. My heart beats rapidly again. I was about to move away from her but she quickly wrapped her arms around my neck. "Where are you going, handsome?" Katherine spoke in a way that I could understand. But I doubt she knows what she's doing. "I'm going to my room," I replied to her. I tried to remove her arms from my neck but I couldn't remove them. If I used force on her, she would surely get hurt. "Stay with me." She smiled at me with her eyes closed. It was an invitation. And if I were a different man, I would surely accept her invitation. "Be good and just continue—" What I was about to say was cut short when Katherine's soft lips suddenly touched my lips. My whole body stiffened and the fire that had been ignited earlier suddenly flared up. "I want you to sleep with me," she said after releasing my lips. "You don't know what you're doing, Katherine." My breathing became heavy. Damn it! God knows how much I'm controlling myself not to kiss her back and crush her in my arms. I'm not a gentleman. Katherine should not tease me like this. Katherine suddenly opened her eyes and smiled at me. "Axel, my handsome husband," she said before closing her eyes again. I thought she was going to kiss me again. But her arms suddenly loosened their grip on my neck. After a few seconds, I heard her deep breathing, an indication that she was sleeping soundly. I took a deep breath after covering her with a blanket. I'm going to be tortured this night.
