I wanted to start my research next week so I could clear my head and start stress-free but these people wanted to start as soon as possible.
Sigh!
If I was to start now I would need a space at home too since I couldn’t entertain any distractions. I would ask Dax if there was any space in the house that I could use as a mini laboratory.
Starting at the hospital would be easy since there was a lab for each department then a general laboratory.
This research would be one of the most important things I’ve ever done or participated in. It was going to be a tough journey.
I went back to the office, “What happened?” Lina asked, “nothing, just about the research for a cure for the disease,” I said and slumped down on the chair. “This is going to be a difficult one, and I’ll help you as much as I can,” the line said with determination dancing in her eyes, and it made me smile that she was willing to participate in a risky fight. She was fearless, the amazing woman she is.
I hugged her, “Thank you, Lina,” I said warmly, and, “you’re always welcome,” she said and we both smiled. “It’s getting late, time to head home,” I said and Lina seconded what I said.
Going downstairs together, we talked and laughed until it was time to part ways. I went into the car and we drove off to the house.
It was surprising how no one knew I was their alpha's mate yet, ‘Funny’ I thought to myself on the way.
I got to the house, I walked into the house but I didn’t see anyone in the living room so I went upstairs, I went to kades room to see Dax and kade sleeping next to each other on the bed, ‘I need to get a picture of this’ I thought to myself, I grabbed my phone and took a couple of shots of them.
They looked so cute, they just lay down together like a little and a big bean. I can imagine them in a chibi version right now. “So adorable,” I said out loud, I went out of the room sneakily and closed the door gently.
I went down to eat but it felt weird eating alone. I had always been eating with either Kade or Dax or both of them but now it was just me. I sat down there hearing the clinking of the fork on my plate and the sound of me chewing the food.
The house was as silent as a graveyard, eerily silent. It was half past seven, it had been up to an hour since I came back and the duo upstairs sleeping hadn't woken up. I had the house all to myself but it didn’t feel like home without Kade and Dax not sleeping.
A little while later, Dax came down, “Good Evening” I said when I saw him, “Evening, welcome back” he said and yawned, “I can’t believe I slept with Kade” he murmured to himself but I heard, “I couldn’t believe it too” I said and he turned towards me, “You saw us?!” He asked and I nodded.
“Yeah, you guys looked adorable sleeping next to each other, a great father and son duo,” I said and he chuckled, “By the way, how was work, hope the pressure hasn’t heightened?” He said and I sighed.
“Work was fine but they told us to start our research, there was no time to waste” I replied to him.
“I don’t know what you’re feeling right now or the pressure you’re talking about but I urge you to not give up, you can do it, show them that you’re worthy of being among the doctors to lead them to a cure, don’t let them down or even if you don’t get it the first time, you can always try again,” he said and I felt touch by his words and that made my determination stronger.
His words encouraged me more, ‘if you don’t get it the first time, try again’ those words said by him stuck with me. If a failure once doesn’t make me a failure, I could always try harder the next time.
“Thank you for your words, it will help,” I said and he nodded with a smile. I smiled back.
He’s really nice. Even though he didn’t say it I felt that he believed in me and that I could do it and I would not let him, my mom, Lina, or anyone who believed in me die. I would try my hardest till we found a cure.
‘ I had to ask him about the space for a mini lab’ I thought to myself, how was I going to ask him? “Can I ask you a question?” I said and he nodded, “go on,” he said and I cleared my throat, “is there any available room in the house?” I asked him, “For a mini lab?” He asked and I was taken aback, ‘how did he know’ I thought to myself. Anyone could have thought that’s what I wanted to ask though.
Realizing I hadn’t said anything I coughed a little, “Yes” I said timidly, “There should be, the maids would clean it up once you’re ready” he replied, “Can I see the room?” I asked, “ the maids will check if there’s a room since I do not know” he replied and I nodded.
“Okay,” I said and rested my back and the back of my neck on the chair. “There should be don’t worry, you need a space to avoid distractions so there will be space” he reassured me and I smiled at him, “Thank you,” I said and he nodded, “no problem” he replied and I smiled.
The room didn’t have to be big, I would get a board to paste my research and give the scientists to try it out, the only thing I would need is definitely enough room to avoid congestion and heat.
Myself and Dax stayed there in silence before he called a maid to check if there were any spare rooms.
My mind suddenly thought about Shawn, I wanted to know how he was doing now and saw his daughter again, the sweet little girl.
After a while, Kade came down by himself and it was half past eight, ‘how was he going to sleep this night now, if he had slept by this time it would be difficult for him to sleep again’ I thought to myself.
“Evening, mommy” he greeted me with a hug and I hugged him back, “evening dad” he greeted Dax, “evening son, did you sleep well?” He asked and he nodded. “How was work, mom and how is granny,” he asked me, “work was fine honey and granny is doing good, she also asked you today, you’ll see her one of these days when I’m less busy, okay?” I replied to him, “Okay mummy,” he said with a smile before sitting in between me and Dax.
“Kade, are you hungry?” Dax asked him and Kade nodded. He picked him up, “let’s go eat,” he said, “How about mommy,” he said, “I’d already eaten when you were asleep honey,” I said to him and he seemed a bit down that I had eaten without them. I could just eat a little and sit at the table with them so I followed. “Guess what, mommy will eat with you” I said and he got excited, “Yay” he said with a wide smile.
I love my son very much, and I don’t regret having him, he was truly the best and I was lucky to have him by my side.
I followed them to the dining room but I asked the maid to serve me just a small plain bowl of salad because if I ate more I would have a runny stomach and might vomit since I already ate when I came back.
When the food was served Kade looked confused since his food was different from his and his dad's. “Mommy, why aren’t you eating what my daddy and I are eating?” He asked me, “ I don't want to eat much, so I’ll just eat my veggies,” I said happily to lighten his mood.
“Okay,” he said and we all started eating and I finished first.
Kade was eating well on his own and didn’t need my help. Dax finished his food and we both waited for Kade. “The food is very tasty,” he said with sauce on his mouth and I reached out to clean it but my hand bumped into Dax’s hand in front of Kade’s face.
“You could clean it,” I said and retracted my hand, “No you do it,” he said but I insisted on him doing it and he later gave up and cleaned the sauce off our mouth. Kade finished his food and we all went to the living room.
“Mommy can I watch TV?” Kade whispered to me and I laughed, “ask your dad.” I whispered back and he turned to his dad. “Dad can we watch tv,” he said with pleading eyes and I knew no one could resist those eyes.
“Sure,” Dax said and pulled out a remote, he turned the television on and we waited for it to boot and get started. Once it came on, Dax put it on the kiddies channel for the kades age range.
‘How I wish Kade was asleep, so we could watch a movie other than cartoons’ I thought to myself.
The show was called ‘Bobo and Layla’ and it pretty much just taught kids how to be kind, respectful and help their parents and the elderly.
