Chapter 20

Alpha Dax’s POV

She came into my room but I just got out of the shower and she bumped into me and touched my chest all over. Doesn’t she know what happens when you do that to a man? She apologized and ran out. I wonder what she wanted to tell me but maybe she was too shy to say it, but what if it’s urgent?

I looked out the hallway and saw her go back to her room. I dressed up and went to the balcony for some peace and quiet.

The cold breeze blew my hair and it felt relaxing, the temperature of the weather was cold tonight. I looked over to Becca's balcony and saw her there, lost in thought. Did she want to share her thoughts with me when she came to my room? I wondered.

She was too lost in her thoughts to even notice me, she looked really beautiful under the moonlight. I stared into space thinking about the positive impact of Becca and Kade coming into my life. I felt her look at me but I decided to not look her way and just continue staring, I saw her leave and sighed. I guess I was the only one awake.

Feeling bored and empty, I got a glass of chocolate warm milk since it helps me sleep easier and faster. I drank it but after hours I still didn’t get any sleep, not like it was going to affect me the next day but I still needed to sleep. Some would say I had ‘insomnia’ but I didn’t, it was just a habit and because of my past, I had sleepless nights which made my body immune to not sleeping.

I just sat down in the dark room doing nothing, I felt that familiar feeling of loneliness again. I just lay down on the empty cold bed for hours.

**Next morning….

I only slept for about two hours and a few minutes. I freshen up and go downstairs, nobody is awake because the sun is just rising. I went out to survey the town and everywhere seemed fine.

I went back home and it was half past seven, I saw Becca having breakfast and decided to join her.

“May I join you?” I asked with a grin, there was food in her mouth so she had to swallow first, “Sure why not” she replied, “Good morning by the way” she said with a smile, “morning” I greeted back before taking a seat. I called the maid to serve me bread, eggs, and a cup of tea. “Yesterday night,” I said and she choked on her bread. I went over and patted her back since I saw her do it Kade anytime he choked.

She calmed down, “Did you want to tell me anything?” I asked, “I was bored yesterday so I wanted to talk to someone so I was looking for you but then I entered your room, I knocked but no answer so I decided to go in then I bumped into you and I touches you without knowing and I’m sorry,” she said, wow that’s a long explanation.

“It’s fine just don’t touch people, especially men like that,” I told her and she nodded. “So what did you want to tell me?” I asked her as I picked up my bread to eat.

“Work has been busy and we’re doing tests for an infection and everything is just stressing me out” she burst out, I never noticed she was going through this much, I did notice she was tired recently but I just thought it was loads of patients she saw daily.

“Don’t put too much pressure on yourself, try hard and do your best and if you don’t get it the first time, try again” I assured her and she seemed to cool down a bit.

We chatted a little while eating about Kade and other things then she had to leave for work. I was left with Kade and the whole house. Before she left she told me that she had already bathed Kade but he went back to sleep.

I went upstairs to check on him, I went into their room and saw him peacefully sleeping on the bed without a care in the world. I looked at him closely, ‘he looks like me’ I thought to myself and smiled. He took most of my features and his moms along with her characters.

I didn’t do much all day, went out for a bit but I played with Kade and taught him some simple calculations. Did he need to enroll in school, I asked myself but I couldn’t make the decision on my own, I would ask Becca too since we were both his parents we would make joint decisions.

Becca's POV

I woke up early and didn’t see Dax which was off, he was usually awake before any of us but I didn’t bother.

I bathed Kade and wore clothes for him, “I want to sleep,” Kade said, it was still early so I let him sleep.

I went downstairs for breakfast and after a while, Dax came in and asked if he could join me for breakfast and I let him, not like I could refuse him.

He asked me about last night and I recalled what happened, touching his torso and his groan. I apologized and he said it was fine but told me to knock harder and not touch things like that, especially men.

We talked more and his words rang in my head, “You can talk to me anytime and about anything” he said and he was so sweet and understanding, not the way he portrayed himself. He kept a cold aura around people he wasn’t familiar with but with me and Kade he was sweet, kind, and understanding. He was a good mate choice for me.

I had to leave for work, I hid him goodbye before I left. I got to work and greeted everyone as usual but I didn’t see Lina first and she was usually early to work. I started getting worried about her.

She walked into the office with her office wear and heels clicking into the office, all attention was on her, “Lina!” I exclaimed and went over to her.

“You got me worried, why are you late?” I asked and she chuckled, “I’m fine, I just ran into something today,” she said and I sat her down, “okay, thank goodness I thought something had happened to you,” I said and she smiled.

“Aww you care about me, it makes me want to cry,” she said playfully and we both laughed. “Don’t worry, I’m fine” she assured me and we chatted for a while before we started doing our respective duties. I saw a patient with a whooping cough and I prescribed drugs for her and she thanked me. She had a kind and sweet aura around her. “Thank you and piece of advice, you can do this, belief in yourself!” She said before she ran off and left leaving me confused.

‘How did she know I was in a confusing type of situation?’ I thought to myself. Weird.

Her words and actions still bugged me, how did she know, maybe she was psychic? It could be, I thought to myself.

I went to check on my mom today and regulate her blood pressure and intake of drugs, she was doing fine, “how is Kade?” Mom asked me, “He’s doing well,” I said, “where is he?” She asked, “He’s at home with a babysitter” I lied, ‘did I tell her about me living with Dax, I can’t remember’ I thought to myself. “That’s nice, tell him granny misses him,” she said, “mm okay, by the way, mom you seem to be okay but don’t stress too much, I know I say it a lot but I just don’t want anything to happen while I’m not around,” I said.

“I’ll be fine sweetie, you’re the one that shouldn’t stress too much,” she told me and I sighed, “Of course mom” I replied and we talked before I left to go back to the office.

It was time for lunch break and I waited for her since we went together. We got to the cafeteria and I decided to try something new. I tried a grilled cheese and bacon sandwich with orange juice. It was very tasty. They knew how to cook quite well here.

“So did you think about what I told you yesterday,” Lina asked, “yeah, I’ll work on myself and try to share my problems,” I said with a sigh. “It takes time, no rush,” she says and it made me feel better that I didn’t have to start now. “Thank you, Lina,” I said, “you’re welcome, I know I’m the best,” she said playfully and I lightly hit her with my elbow and we both laughed.

She was one of the people who entered my life and had been the kindest to me since I moved here. The life I started here had made memories in my head that I would love to keep forever. Even Kade had made good memories here with his dad, me, and my mom. I count musketeers lucky to be surrounded by such beautiful and amazing people.

I sipped my orange juice, “mm” I said it was really nice and juicy, I thought to myself. “It’s sweet right?” Lina said and I nodded, “very” I replied.

“Why do you like that apple juice so much?” I asked, “apples are my favorite fruit” she replied, “nice, I like them too but not as much as you do, of course,” I said and she chuckled.

“I’m the queen of apples,” she said with much confidence and I laughed. She was really fun to be with, no dull moment with her.

Lunch break was over and we went back to the office.

After a while, a doctor needed my attention, there were other doctors present too. I’m guessing it’s because of the disease. A man came out and started talking, “You all are here because of the infection or disease we are trying to find a cure for, I would urge you all to start making research and we would all walk towards creating a cure for this disease and save lives” he said and everyone nodded.

“You can all go back to your various offices,” he said and we all left.

I needed to start my research now and fast.
