I didn’t know the reason that I wanted to spend time with Dax more, we were on good terms but that was this urge to be with him more.
Considering Kade and Dax, it would be a lot to handle on my part. Noticing I was thinking again Lina tapped me and I was brought back to reality.
“You need to stop thinking about your problems alone, you can share them, if not with anyone you can at least tell me. Or you don’t trust me?” She said and I didn’t even have a reply but trusted her. Of course, she was sweet and kind and all of that but I hadn’t known her for long.
Besides trusting people was a big deal, you never know who is actually who.
“Trust you?, we haven’t known each other that long, and like I said, sharing my problems with people is not my thing,” I said sternly and she didn’t speak about it any further.
“So when is lunch break ending?” I asked, “It should end soon I think” she replied.
I thought she would get mad at me for not trusting her but I guess she understood. I took my sandwich and continued eating, “this sandwich is really good” I said, “yeah I think I’ve had it before” Lina said, “Mm, okay” I replied. We continued eating till I finished then she did.
We already left the cafeteria before lunch break was over. An alarm went off indicating that break was over and everyone was to get back to his or her duties. I went to my mom's room to check on her, before I went in I just stood at the door.
I was here, to help them with the infection, they trusted and hoped that I could help, the pressure was getting worse for me even though nobody really said anything about it. I knew deep down they all wanted to say it all. I was a hope for them, and I didn’t want to let them down, so I promised myself to try.
I put on a mask, sighed, and went in.
Opening the door slowly and gently, I peeled in and saw her before coming in fully. “Hi mom,” I said and she waved at me, “How are you feeling?” I asked, “I feel a little bit better since I feel the effects of the d**g already,” she said.
“Oh that’s nice but we still need to find a permanent cure and it’s not going to fully heal you even though you will feel better,” I said and she sighed, “I know but I believe in you, you will help us find a cure,” she said and reached for my hands, “Do it for me, love,” she said and I sighed.
“I’ll do my best,” I said and she smiled, “Thank you sweetie” she replied. I left her ward after checking her again.
She believes in me when I don’t even believe in myself, this is hard. Finding a cure for a disease wasn’t as easy as anyone thought it was. I just hope I don’t contract it too. I wouldn’t want to let my mom down, and seeing her on a sick bed and not doing the thing she loved the most, which was treating people, was heartbreaking.
‘I have to try, thinking of other people contracting the same infection wasn’t the best, if I found a cure I could save lives’ I thought to myself while walking back to the office. ‘Saving people’s lives, that’s why I became a doctor in the first place’ I thought, and giving myself some esteem that I could do it, I would do it.
I got to the office and saw Lina there checking a file, “what are you doing?” I asked and she jolted up, “You scared me,” she said and I laughed, “scaredy cat,” I said and she shook her head.
“So how is she?” Lina asked regarding my mom, “she’s feeling the effect of the d**g but we both know it won’t heal her” I said before sitting down.
“I know but at least she didn’t feel as weak as before,” she said and I nodded, “True” I replied. I looked at my desk to review the infectious disease again. It was really weird that only a few people had contracted it and it wasn’t spreading too fast, which meant it wasn’t contracted easily. There was no time to waste, I would start research next week.
Lina and I chatted for a bit before I saw patients and prescribed drugs. I was busy today. Lina was tired when she came back looking tired, “I’m so tired,” she said while stretching her arms, “me too, now I can go back home,” I said while packing my bag and preparing to leave. “Wait for me, let’s go down together” she suggested and I waited for her to finish.
We walked down to the lobby and parted ways, I got into the car ready to go back home.
I got back home early and Kade ran into my arms the moment he saw me. “Mommy,” he said, still hugging me, “Hi Kade,” I said with a faint smile, “Mommy, are you tired?” He asked me and I nodded, he dragged me upstairs and I met Dax on the way.
“You look worn out,” he said and I nodded. “You need some rest,” he said. Without any warning he swooped me up in his arms and carried me upstairs, “too tired to walk” he said while going upstairs. “You really don’t have to do this, you know?” I told him but he turned a deaf ear to anything I said.
We got upstairs and he put me down in my room and left to give me privacy.
“What a tough woman” I heard him say outside the door, “I heard that” I shouted from the room, “you were supposed to” he replied and I heard him laugh while going down the stairs and I shook my head.
I took off my clothes and had a warm, relaxing bubble bath, soothing all my nerves. When I came out I felt super refreshed. My stomach did a loud grumble and I chuckled and rubbed it. “Hungry, aren’t we?” I said sarcastically and went downstairs for dinner.
Kade was in the living room with his dad, “One plus one is what?” Dax asked Kade, “Two” Kade replied boldly, “correct, that’s my boy,” Dax said and I watched them with a smile and my stomach let out a louder growl and the duo heard and looked over to me and Kade burst out laughing.
“Come on, let's go have dinner,” Dax said and we all went to the dining room. I ate like a pig, to my heart's content and Dax and Kade just stared at me as I ate. I was really hungry so I didn’t mind their stares. The food was very delicious, the chef was too good at what he did. I wish I can be able to cook like this someday.
I waited for Kade and Dax to finish their food. Kade spilled some on his shirt and I started feeding him. He also ate a lot while Dax just stared at the both of us. “The food is delicious, isn’t it?” Dax asked Kade, “it’s very delicious” Kade replied while nodding his head. “Becca, how was work?” Dax asked me and I sighed, “it was fine but stressful” I replied, “it was evident on your face when you came in,” he said and I chuckled, “I looked like a mess, didn’t I?” I said, “Not really, you’re still beautiful anyway” he replied.
‘This man flirts effortlessly’ I thought to myself and a blush crept into my cheeks. ‘When am I going to get used to this’ I thought to myself.
Kade giggled looking at me and blushing.
We all finished eating and left the dining room. “Kade, let’s freshen up and get you to sleep,” I said when I noticed Kade blinking his eyes continuously. He stood up and walked towards me and I carried him upstairs. “Mommy, me and daddy had a fun day today,” he said, “what did you do?” I was interested in what they did today.
“After taking your bath, you can tell me all about it,” I said and he nodded slowly. I bathed for him and wore clothes for him. I went to use the restroom so when I came back Kade would tell me all they did today but I came back and met a sound-asleep Kade.
I laughed and kissed his forehead before going downstairs.
I wasn’t feeling sleepy at all so I went downstairs hoping to see Dax there and I should try to share my problems with him like Lina advised but he wasn’t there. I tried searching for him a bit but I didn’t see him anywhere.
I went to check his room, I knocked but no answer so I decided to go in, “Dax” I called out but the room was dark and I was looking for the switch when I hit something hard. I was touching it but I noticed it was formed and I heard a groan.
Was I touching Dax, oh no, I moved back then someone turned on the lights? I saw Dax with no clothes and just a towel covering his lower body. “You need to learn to stop touching me,” he said and I gulped, “sorry,” I said and ran out of the room.
What an embarrassing moment, ‘way to go becca’ I thought to myself. I facepalmed before heading to my room even though I wasn’t sleepy I just went in and lay on the bed staring at the ceiling thinking about what was going to happen next and the disease.
I kept turning around the bed and stood up to go to the balcony. I sat down on the floor and let the cold breeze brush through my face. It made me shiver. The weather was cold tonight, and it was cool. I sat down there for a while and looked at Kade sleeping on the bed.
It was getting late so I stood up but I saw Dax on his balcony and he looked like he was in deep thought looking really serious, so I didn’t bother him and went back inside to sleep. I will have a busy day tomorrow, I hope everything goes as planned, and with that I closed my eyes and slept.
