The girls got to where Mara was parked and got into the car and made their way to Mara’s house. Ivy’s chest was still on fire. Ivy kept trying to rub it away. Once at Mara’s, Ivy went to go to the front door. “No, actually we’re going to the shed.” Ivy stopped short. No one was allowed in the shed. That is where Eddie worked on her projects. Ivy looked at Mara but she was already almost to the gate, so Ivy followed her to the backyard. When they went through the gate, Ivy could see her mom and Eddie right in front of the shed. They were pacing back and forth, once they saw the girls they started to rush over. Mara put her hand up. “Inside, too many ears.” Mara said. Eddie opened the door and when everyone was inside, she ran her hand over the door and muttered something. Ivy sat right on the couch. She felt like she was in a daze. “What happened?” Eddie asked as she was walking into the living room. Mara sat next to Ivy and let out a huge breath. “First off, I am exhausted. Second, there was a group of students surrounded by a few guys by the main entrance. So, Ivy and I went to check it out in between classes and then Ivy just stopped. She held her chest again, she was in a trance. She was in so much pain; I had to pull deep to reach her.” Mara laid her head back. Ivy looked at her friend. What did she have to pull?Ivy looked back at her mom. “His eyes.” Mary looked at her daughter. “What hunny?” “His eyes. He looked right at me. I felt pain in my heart just like the last time, only the heat was stronger this time.” Ivy looked like she was thinking back. Eddie walked over to where Ivy was sitting and touched her face. Ivy looked right into Eddie’s eyes and saw them swirling. Eddie pulled her hand away and stepped back to Mary. “Her mate.” Eddie grabbed Mary’s hand. Ivy looked at Mara. Mara had flung herself up and was looking back and forth between Mary and Eddie. “Are you kidding me?” Mara exclaimed. “Her mate? She barely knows who she is and now he is here? She isn’t ready for any of this. Hell, I’m not ready for any of this.” Ivy’s mouth dropped open, then she started laughing. Ivy was laughing so hard tears rolled down her face. Mara touched Ivy’s shoulder. Ivy quieted down. “What in the hell are you all talking about?” Ivy questioned. Mary walked to the couch and sat down next to Ivy and placed her hand on Ivy’s knee. “Your father and I talked this morning, and I was going to bring you here later today. I thought it was best that I let you in on our ancestry, our legacy. It seems that I’m a little late to the party.” Mary chuckled. “Ivy, what I am going to tell you may seem a little out there or even crazy. I want you to just listen to the story and keep an open mind.” Mary started to tell Ivy. Ivy looked at her mother. “Do you remember when you were little, and Eddie would come over and we would have you play in a certain room while we had adult time?” Ivy nodded her head. “Ok, do you remember when you were about 10 and there was this wonderful light show in the backyard after your birthday party because the rain ruined almost everything?” Again, Ivy nodded.” “Well, it is because we are different than most people. We have a gift and a purpose. We are sorceresses, daughters of the moon. We have powers that are part of a supernatural world.” Ivy looked at her mother like her mother lost her head. Mara scooted up next to Ivy to hold her hand. Ivy grabbed it in thanks. “There are many beings and diverse types of magic out there. The stories you heard growing up are all true. There is much more, and we will have the time to go over it all but the most important part of all of this is you. You are incredibly special, my little flower.” Mary smiled at Ivy. Eddie came and sat next to Mara. “You have power locked inside of you that will soon be unlocked. Some of it has already started manifesting. We are not sure of your true and full potential yet. We had to protect you and in doing so, it meant suppressing the power inside of you.” Eddie tried to rationalize softly. Ivy leaned back against the couch and closed her eyes. “Honey, I know it is a lot to take in. I wish I could introduce you to this world, our world, slowly. Unfortunately, timing is of the essence I feel due to your birthday fast approaching and it seems you have met your mate today. Or more, you looked upon your mate today. The heat and tug in your chest are the signs of the mating bond trying to cement. It will get worse being away from him until you are bonded.” Eddie explained to Ivy. My birthday. How can I even think about my birthday at this moment? Ivy thought to herself. “Ivy, have you had any experiences that you may have just blown off?” Eddie asked. Ivy looked at her. “Like what kind?” “Any tingles, any chills? Anything just off?” Eddie asked. Ivy thought back to the few times she had those feelings. “Yes.” Mary squeezed her hand for encouragement. “Every so often, I would get the feeling like someone was watching me. Whenever I looked around, no one would be there. I just brushed it off.” Ivy sighed. “Honey, it is not your fault. You couldn’t have known. I kept it from you.” Mary apologized. “There are many legends and history to our people. We are one of many supernatural beings out there.” Ivy gasped. “You mean there are other things out there? Like what?” Maya eyes wide with wonder sat up at this. Ivy and Mara exchanged a look. They would be debriefing on their own later. “I know it is a lot to take in. There are many types of supernatural beings out there. We have witches and sorceresses, warlocks and sorcerers, werewolves, fairies, vampires, shapeshifters, Goddesses and Gods, and so much more. Mara here, is what we call a Guardian. She is your protector. She has powers that are growing along with her like you but hers are different. They will coincide with what you develop but hers will been keener and sharper in order to keep you safe. We knew it the instant the two of you met. There was this glow that illuminated you both when Mara walked over to you and touched your face. We weren’t sure what it meant until I met with some Elders of our coven, and they explained to me what some of our old traditions were that they have not seen in many moons. That must be why you girls get along so well.” Eddie smiled as she looked at both girls. “We have been blocking your powers from the start because you started showing signs much earlier than most and we were worried about your safety. There are evil beings out there, not everyone believes in the same things as we do. We have a council of each species. Your mother and I, upon recent events, thought it was best to start telling you and slowly allow your powers to progress. However, it seems you are much stronger than we thought because you are going through treatments quite fast, and your powers are still rapidly developing. I am not sure what will happen once we stop your power blockers. The last potion was the strongest one we’ve done so far. It was time to stop the blockers now anyway.” Eddie seemed worried about this and looked at Mary who also seemed worried. “Ivy, hunny, I want you to let us, or Mara know if anything strange begins to happen or something out of your control happens around you. We aren’t quite sure of what your powers will be although you have already showed signs of sensing danger and it’s something that you get anytime danger is around you. You will need to be incredibly careful from here on out. Once you start demonstrating your powers, others will be able to feel that energy. We will start with some basic learning and teaching to see what clicks with you and what has yet to develop.” Mara let out a loud gasp and everyone turned around to look at her. “What about our trip to Ireland? We’ve been looking forward to this all year long!” Mara whined and slammed back. Eddie and Mary looked at each other then Mary smiled. “You can still go. That is the home to our people. Your powers will be stronger there. We have made the arrangements to get a place in Ireland to stay as well so we will close but still far enough away for you to enjoy your trip.” Both girls let out a sigh of relief. They were still on! Ivy had a thought just then, “What about that guy? The one at school? Is that part of my powers developing as well?” Ivy looked at both women in the room. Mary and Eddie exchanged a look before Mary grabbed Ivy’s hand again. “No sweetie. That is a different kind of magic altogether. There are many tales regarding the experience that you had today. Not many have experienced it of our kind but what we do know of it comes from a varied species than ours. That kind of magic belongs to werewolves. It is the mating bond connecting mates together.” Ivy’s jaw dropped open, and she just stared at her mother. “My what? Magic with what now?” Ivy’s mind was swirling. She couldn’t believe what her mother was telling her. Werewolf magic? How is that possible? Does this mean I am a werewolf? How is that possible if my mom is a witch? Ivy’s thoughts were just bombarding her. Mary squeezed Ivy’s hand again. Mara rubbed her hand down Ivy’s back. “You are my daughter. You are a special blessing from the Moon Goddess. Whatever you are or not, regarding species, it does not matter. It is exceedingly rare for a witch to mate with a werewolf and even rarer for a wolf to mate with anything other than a wolf but we both pray to the same Goddess, so it is possible. A mate when it comes to magic, is for life. It is your other half and your partner in every lifetime. It is a gift to have a mate and I am somewhat surprised that you would have your mate so young, but again we know nothing of what is to be yet. You have powers and your father has been given updates and messages as you’ve grown so we could keep an eye for growth. Every time that you displayed a power, we would come here to Eddie, and she would make you a potion or I would call her, and she would send you the vitamins that you take. I really am sorry my darling, it was to keep you protected as I promised I always would.” Ivy looked at her mother. “Promised who?” Mary smiled and said, “The Moon Goddess.”
